GMAT 2018 RESULT & COUNSELLING
GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is conducted by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) and its service providers Pearson VUE and ACT every year globally for admission to various Business Schools around the world. GMAT Exam is considered as one of the most acceptable and trustworthy platforms for selecting students for the MBA Programs. GMAT evaluates the four basic skills-Verbal ability, integrated Reasoning, Quantitative aptitude and analytical writing-which are a part and parcel of the day to day life of Business School students.
GMAT is a computer based adaptive test. The term adaptive test means the system will adapt itself while giving the next questions according to the difficulty level of the questions previously attempted. GMAT Score and percentile ranking is provided for each of the four sections of the GMAT Exam approximately three weeks after the test. The GMAT Score can be broadly analyzed and interpreted according to the official assessment criteria. The candidates who have appeared in the exam can gain a detailed idea of his/her score and his/her caliber amongst all other participants. The GMAT Score for each section is evaluated according to a fixed scale devised by the conducting body.
Each candidate who has appeared in GMAT Exam is assessed according to a scale devised by the conducting body. The total GMAT Score ranges from 200-800 and on an average estimate two-thirds of the GMAT Test takers obtain score 400 to 600.
The GMAT Score scale for each section is detailed below:

The official GMAT Score Report details each of the sectional score and the respective percentile ranking. The percentile ranking changes to certain extent each year as it based on all the test takers for the past 3 years. However, the GMAT score Scale is static and remains constant without any change. Official GMAT score reports are available to the test taker and his or her designated score-report recipients (schools) approximately three weeks after the test date.
Apart from this it will include the following features:
In addition to the scores of the sections and total score, the Official GMAT Score report provides the percentile ranking. The percentile ranking reflects a comparison between the test taker and all other test takers of GMAT. It basically tells the percentage of the test takers for the previous three full years from the date your score is reported who have scored lower than the candidate. Since the Integrated Reasoning section was introduced in June 2012, the percentile rankings for that section are being updated
The official GMAT Score Report is sent to five programs or schools that the candidate has chosen. The candidate has to choose the score recipients after careful reckoning as once the selections have been submitted, they cannot be altered or deleted. The Official Score Report will be sent within 20 calendar days of taking the test. This service is included under the registration fee. The Official GMAT Score report not only presents the total score but also a sectional analysis which can be used to interpret the GMAT Result in details. The GMAT Score analysis serves as an assessment criteria of various skills and qualities required by the Business programs and the Management Sector jobs all over the world.
Each AWA essay is scored at least twice. Once it is evaluated by a human reader and once by an automated essay-scoring engine which evaluates more than 50 structural and linguistic features. If the ratings provided by the two sources differ by more than one point, an expert reader provides a third evaluation to determine the final score. The scores obtained by the multiple assessments are averaged into one section score. Scores for the AWA range from 0 to 6 in half-point intervals.
Note: If the test taker has doubts regarding the AWA Score, he/she can request another evaluation by filling the Essay Rescore Request Form. (pdf to be uploaded)
The IR Section is scored on the basis of number of questions answered correctly. It is not an adaptive Test. A few questions might have multiple parts as this section is devised to calculate how well the test taker can integrate all available data to solve a particular problem. So a test taker has to answer all the questions correctly in order to score for that particular question.
Scores are reported in intervals of 1 and ranges from 1 to 8.
Since these two sections are computer adaptive, the score is evaluated on 3 factors mentioned below:
1. Number of questions answered
2. No of correct answers
3. Difficulty and other qualities of the questions answered.
The test taker will obtain a higher score if he/she has answered higher number of questions, attempted higher number of correct answers and higher number of difficult questions.
Scores are reported in intervals of 1 and the standard error of measurement is 3 points.
Some scores are rare: Below 7 and above 50 for Quantitative, below 9 and above 44 for Verbal.
The total GMAT Score is based on the Quantitative and Verbal sections. The AWA and IR section score doesn’t affect the main score.
The raw calculation is then converted to a number in the Total score range (200-800).
Scores are reported in intervals of 10.
The standard error of measurement is 30-40 points.
The test takers can obtain a detailed overview of his/her performance by ordering an Enhanced GMAT Score Report(ESR). This will include all the areas to focus on, the strong and weak points according to the type of questions and will aid in the preparation, if he/she wishes to re-attempt the GMAT Exam. The cost of the ESR is $24.95 (USD) and can be purchased at mba.com/store.
The various aspects in which the ESR provides an analysis are as follows:
The candidates can cancel their score up to 72 hours after the completion of the exam. The option to cancel your score may take up to 24 hours to appear, depending on the location of your test center. The candidate is charged $25 fee to cancel scores after leaving the test center. The steps to cancel the GMAT Score are:
Once cancelled, the GMAT Score can be reinstated with a fee of $50. The candidates can reinstate their score by logging into his/her account in the official website of GMAT and clicking on the reinstate score option.
