CAT 2017 Score Card, CAT Result, CAT Result 2017

The scorecard obtained has the following information:

  • Personal Details
  • Candidate’s contact details
  • Category Details
  • Test Details
  • Scaled Score
  • Percentile

The detailed explanation of each component on the CAT 2017 score card is given below:

Personal Details

The Personal Details include the following information:

  • Name of the candidate
  • Gender
  • Date of Birth

These are provided on the score card to verify the identity of the test taker.

Candidate’s Contact Details

This includes a candidate’s postal address and their email id provided during CAT Registration.

Category Details

Category details include information if the candidate is from General, NC-OBC, or SC/ST category. The CAT 2017 scorecard also shows a candidate’s PWD/DA status.

Test Details

Test details, in CAT 2017 score card, includes CAT 2017 Registration number/Login id, test date and slot.

Scaled Score

Scaling of CAT scores is a process carried out to ensure fairness to all the candidates. CAT exam is conducted in two shifts and the test paper is different for each shift so does the level of difficulty. There might be a case where question paper in one shift may be tough in comparison to the other shift. In such cases, the scores may vary. Thus in order to ensure fairness in comparing scores of candidates across different test sessions the scores of all appearing candidates arescaled.

Your CAT 2017 score card will containsection wise scaled score and overall scaled score.

Percentile Score

A percentile score is the rank of a candidate relative to the rank of other candidates appearing in CAT 2017. For example, if in an exam where 100 candidates appeared and your rank is 25, then 75 people scored less than you. So your percentile score would be

(75/100) X 100 = 75%ile

Your CAT score card will contain section-wise percentile score and overall percentile score.

How is CAT Result 2017 Calculated?

  • As per the exam pattern of CAT Exam, each question holds 3 marks.
  • For marking a wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted as penalty.
  • But no mark is deducted on marking the wrong option under non-MCQs section. Read About CAT Score Calculation

CAT 2017 Percentile

CAT Result is declared in the form of percentile score. The higher the percentile score, greater are the chances to get shortlisted for the admission procedure. These percentile scores are determined normalization of scores.

CAT Score Normalisation

  • CAT 2017 will be conducted in two different shifts and each shift will have a different set of question paper.
  • The difficulty level for each question set may vary. Hence, in order to ensure fairness and equity in the marking process, CAT authorities follow a normalization process where marks of each candidate are scaled.

Example- To explain further, let’s suppose 1000 students appeared in both the shifts in two cities A and B. The question paper in the second shift was tougher on the second shift. Also, the students from City B are from Hindi medium background but the question paper was in English. Now, the average score of students in the first shift is 110 and an average score of students in second shift is 100. Also, an average score of students in city A is 120 and city B is 100.

Read More About Normalization Of Scores

Now, comparing the scores of all the students on the same parameter would not be fair. So the scores of the students in the second set and city would be multiplied by a number which is arrived at by careful consideration of multiple factors such as:

  1. Highest score
  2. Lowest score
  3. Top 10 percentile scores
  4. Lowest 10 percentile scores
  5. Mean
  6. Median
  7. Other deviations (city, educational background etc.)
  • When CAT result is prepared, every candidate’soriginal score undergoes the process of normalization.
  • Though CAT authorities have not disclosed their method of normalization, the official brochure states that at first the process is adjusted for location and then scale the differences of score distribution across different forms.
  • After this process, the scores obtained are again scaled for different sections. The score thus obtained is then converted to percentiles.

CAT 2017 Answer Key

  • Since the year 2009, when for the first time CAT Exam was conducted in the online mode, CAT authorities do not release any official answer key.
  • It will be the case for CAT 2017, and there will be no official answer key released.
  • It is a part of a Non-Disclosure Agreement, that no authority is allowed to release CAT answer key official or otherwise.
  • According to the Non-Disclosure Agreement, any individual or authority releasing CAT 2017 Answer key, official or otherwise will have to bear legal consequences.
  • So in case, you encounter any such website which claims to have official CAT 2017 answer key, instead of following it report the same to CAT official authorities.
  • For those eagerly awaiting results, can expect CAT Results to be declared around the second week of January 2018.

Hi Vivek, The normalization process in CAT Exam is as follows:
