CAT Application Form- The process of filling CAT Application Form has begun from August 9, 2017 and will conclude on September 25, 2017. Candidates willing to register themselves can visit the official website i.e. This year, over 2,00,000 candidates are expected to register for CAT 2017.

  • An applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks to apply for CAT exam. Check CAT Eligibility
  • CAT Registration can be done via online mode only.
  • Application Form is common for MBA or PGDM Programs.

  • Before registering for the exam, it is mandatory to have a valid email ID, Contact Number and Address.
  • General category candidates must pay INR 1800 as CAT Application Fee while for reserved category candidates, it is INR 900.

CAT 2017 Latest Updates

The number of registrations for CAT 2017 has taken everyone aback. The record of a seven-year high in 2016 was broken with nearly 231,000 registrations this year. This number is slightly lesser than the registrations in 2016 (2,32,434).

Despite an extension in the registration dates to accommodate more students, the numbers didn’t significantly go up. Interestingly, between the 5 days extension window, about 20,000 candidates registered for CAT 2017.

Personal Details

  • Candidate’s Name - Candidate’s name will automatically be generated as per the information filled primarily during CAT Registration.
  • Date of Birth – While filling CAT application form, candidate’s Date of Birth will be generated automatically as it would be recorded earlier in the registration form.
  • Father’s/Husband’s/Guardian’s Name – Enter father’s or husband’s or guardian’s name in this section provided.
  • Mother’s Name- Enter Mother’s name as per the official records.
  • Gender - Enter the details as applicable.
  • Nationality – In the given box, enter the nationality accordingly.
  • Category - Candidate must specify their category and choose the correct option from General/SC/ST/OBC (Creamy Layer or Non-Creamy Layer)
  • PwD Status- Select the radio button as applicable.
  • Aadhar Card Number- Enter the correct Aadhar card number.

  • Communication Address- Be sure of filling correct address as it will be used for further communication.
  • At the time of filling CAT Application Form, an alternate mobile number and email address are also asked to enter. 
  • Documents - After specifying these details candidate must upload the specified documents. A scanned image of passport size photograph within the dimensions of 35mm X 45mm must be uploaded. Also, upload scanned image of the signatures within dimensions of 80mm X 35mm.
  • Candidates should be careful of the dimensions mentioned any negligence may lead to non-acceptance of the application form.
  • It is important to note that images should be in .jpg or .jpeg format with file size of maximum 80 kb.
  • Certificates of those belonging to different categories, with attested signatures of the concerned authorities must be uploaded as a pdf file.

Q 1. Do I need to fill the aggregate percentage of marks or as per my University standards?

Ans: As per CAT Eligibility Criteria, you have to fill the percentage according to your university norms.

Q 2. What marks do I need to enter in CAT Application Form if I am in final year of Bachelor’s degree?

Ans: You must provide the Aggregate Percentage up to the last marks statement received from the University as per CAT Eligibility Criteria.

Q 3. I have completed my 10th/12th standard from CBSE Board. Do I need to submit the marks cited on the mark list?

Ans: As per CAT eligibility criteria, you must mention the Aggregate Percentage of marks (computed using the conversion formula specified by CBSE for converting CGPA into the percentage of marks) for all the subjects irrespective of your education board regulations.

Q 4. What is the application fee for CAT 2017?

Ans: The application fee is ₹900 for SC/ST/PwD category candidates and ₹1800 for all other categories of candidates.

Ans: The fee has to be paid after completing CAT application form. The fee can be paid using a valid credit card, debit card, or net banking facility.

Q 7. Can I use my coaching institute’s or a friend’s email address at the time of filling CAT Application Form?

Ans: No. A valid and unique email address must be provided. All the information related to CAT exam and the following info during CAT selection criteria of the respective IIMs will be communicated to the registered email address only.

Q 8. From where can I get the list of exam cities?

Ans: The list of exam cities is available at under Exam Cities tab. There, you have to select the State/Union Territory and then the names of test city will appear on the screen. The exam cities will also be available in the form of a drop-down list at the time of filling CAT Application Form.

Q 9. I have made mistake(s) while registering/entering the details in my CAT 2017 application. What should I do now?

Ans: You cannot edit certain personal details like Name, Date of Birth, email id, mobile number etc., at any stage in CAT Registration (either before or after submitting CAT application form).

If you have made a mistake in these details, you must register again with a new email ID. You can edit some personal details, such as Communication Address, Gender, Category, Educational Information, Work Experience, or Exam City preferences etc. until you have not submitted CAT Application Form.

After you submit CAT Application Form, there will be a limited time during which you can modify only a few details such as Percentage of Marks scored, Programs Selected, Work Experience, etc.

The details, that you won’t be able to change or modify are: details entered in the Personal Details section, Academics section except the percentage marks scored, Exam Centre City Preferences. You can only view and print after this.

You must preview your filled-in CAT application form before submission to ensure that all the details are correct.

Q 10. I have an SC/ST certificate in the same format as uploaded at Can I use the same certificate or do I have to download the certificate template from the CAT website and fill it again?

Ans: If your certificate fulfills the following conditions then you can upload the same category certificate:

  • It should be issued by a competent authority.
  • The name of the caste and caste number must appear in the caste certificate.
  • The Ministry's resolution/order number must be available.
  • The certificate should be either in Hindi or English language only.

Ans: You must enter your changed name and provide the supporting documents for change of name at the time of examination, interview, and admission.

Q 13. What should I do if I have lost the SMS of Password received?

Ans: Click the Forgot Password option on the Existing User Login Page. Enter the captcha code and the password will be sent to your registered email ID. It will not be sent as an SMS.

Q 14. I have received multiple passwords. Which password should I enter to log in?

Ans: You need to use the password contained in the most recent SMS you have received. In case you are not able to log in, you can simply use your user id and click ‘forgot password’. You will receive a new password through email on your registered email id.

Q 15. What should I do/select if my University name is not mentioned in the drop-down list while filling CAT application form?

Ans: If your university’s name does not appear in the drop down then you may select “Others” option from the drop down.

Ans: Apart from uploading photograph and signature of the candidate, following certificates have to be uploaded-
