- Dip in CAT 2017 Registrations
This year, CAT exam has seen a marginal fall of 0.6% in total number of registrations. Where 2016 had 2.32 Lacs Registrations, 2017 could manage to get 2.31 Lacs aspirants registered.
There was nearly 6% rise in registrations in year 2016 over that of 2015 registrations.
There was a rise in number of women registration this year. CAT 2017 witnessed highest number of women candidates over last five years. 2016 had 76,704 women candidates whereas, as notified by IIM Lucknow, 2017 has touched 78,009 registrations, marking total of 1.16% increase.

Every Year CAT Exam Centres are replaced with new ones. In last four years, number of exam centres have seen consistent rise. To cater as large as 2.31 Lacs aspirants, IIM L decided to conduct exam in approximately 650 CAT Exam Centres across 140 cities from that of 136 last year.
Along with increased number of women candidates, 31 transgenders too have applied for exam to be held in 140 cities on November 26, 2017.

- CAT Mock Test and Changes in Exam Pattern
IIM Lucknow released CAT 2017 Mock Test on official website, iimcat.ac.in, late evening on October 30, 2017
CAT Exam is notoriously famous for being ambiguous in nature. This year as well, it adds few major changes to keep aspirants in a fix. Along with changes made last year, IIM-L have released some new changes in the CAT Exam Pattern conveyed through release of Mock Test 2017
- CAT mock test 2017 conveys that question composition for all the 3 sections, i.e., DILR, Quant and VARC would continue to be the same.
- There is fall in number of Non-MCQ questions. This has to be one of the remarkable changes so far. Continuing the trend of last two years, 2017 has also reduced the number of non-MCQs. Non- MCQs question are descriptive type of questions which do not carry any negative marking.
- IIMs have been consistently reducing the number of Non- MCQs, from 28 in 2015 to 19 in current year. To substantiate the information, here is a table depicting the same:

- Another change which can put aspirants in a fix is increase in number of options available for MCQ type Questions. CAT 2017 will also have options like ‘Not Applicable’, ‘Not Determinable’, and ‘None of These’.
- Another important notification released by the conducting body is change in scoring pattern of the exam. This year, there will be 3 marks for every correct answer and deduction of 1 mark for every wrong one.
- Login for CAT Exam Day
Shedding off the old rules, IIM L have decided to give a new login Id and Password for the exam day. Until Last year, Candidates could login into their exam systems using their CAT 2017 Registration ID and Password.
- SEC gives green signal to IIM L for conducting CAT 2017 on poll day
Urban bodies’ election in state coincides with CAT 2017. On November 26, the day of CAT, 25 districts go to polls of which seven are those where the exam was to be held. IIM L Director, prof. Ajit Prasad met state election commissioner SK Agarwal, seeking permsission for districts of Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura and Gautam Buddh Nagar. Following the discussions with various officials, IIM L was given a green signal for conducting the exam.

Ans. IIM Lucknow will conduct CAT 2017 on November 26. The exam will take place in online mode. Nearly 2 lac candidates are expected to sit for the exam.
Ques. Is there an option to write CAT in offline mode?
Ans. No, as per the directives issued by the authorities, CAT 2017 exam is conducted in online mode only. However, CAT was conducted in offline mode till 2009.

Ans. As per the new ordinance passed in 2016, there are 4300 seats that were filled in the academic year 2016-17.There is no increase in the number of seats this year, so it is expected to remain the same.

Ans. You need to clear the minimum cut off for further admission process. If you fail on this step, you cannot get admission in any of the IIMs. However, some private college might invite you depending upon their admission rules.

Ans. Authorities are not sending CAT admit card 2017 manually, so best to download online through the official website in the time slot defined. It can be last downloaded till November 26.

Ans. Yes, you must contact the authorities at the exam center and report the incident to them. They will help you with downloading the duplicate admit card.

Ques. Can CAT application fee be paid in offline mode by bank challan?
Ans. NO, application fee has to be paid in the online mode only, by the help of credit/debit card or internet banking. No other mode of payment even in the online mode is accepted.
Ques. What documents do I have to upload with my CAT application form?
Ans. A candidate has to upload compulsorily following set of documents with their CAT 2017 application form:
- A recent scanned photograph
- Scanned image of the signature
- SC/ST/OBC certificate must be signed by competent bodies and must be self attested, and then scanned and uploaded.
- PWD/DA certificate must be signed by authorities and self attested thereof, thus scanned and uploaded.
Ques. Do I have to send a hard copy of the completely filled CAT application form to the authorities?
Ans. No, you do not have to send any copy of the application form, however you must keep one print out for yourself ready.

Ans. No, only the information can be edited before the payment of application fee. Some fields can be edited after the payment of application fee but some will be frozen so cannot be altered.
