NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
BITSAT 2017 Exam started on May 16, 2017, and will continue till May 29, 2017. The exam is held for the admissions to B.E program at the three BITS campuses at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. The entrance exam is scheduled in 2 slots per day– 9 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 5 pm across 59 centers in India and Dubai. Candidates who have opted for a date or change in exam center as allowed by BITS Pilani, their exam is scheduled for May 30, 2017.
The duration of BITSAT is 3 hours and contains a total of 150 objective type questions. BITSAT Paper is divided into 4 sections– Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English (Proficiency and Logical Reasoning). Each question carries 3 marks, while one mark will be deducted from the total score for every wrong answer.
If any candidate successfully answers all the 150 questions before the completion of 3 hours, they will be given 12 more questions to attempt. These extra 12 questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics- 4 questions from each subject. Thus, the maximum marks of BITSAT 2017 are 486 marks.
The table below provides the distribution of marks for all the 4 sections-
|Subject||No. of Questions||Total Marks|
|Physics||40||120 (+12 bonus)|
|Chemistry||40||120 (+12 bonus)|
|English Proficiency Logical Reasoning|
|Mathematics/ Biology (For B.Pharm)||45||135 (+12 bonus)|

As per the analysis, it is marked that BITSAT 2017 is easier as compared to previous years’ exam. BITSAT question paper is balanced with easy, moderate and difficult questions on the scale of level of difficulty of exam. Candidates who prepared and revised the topics properly were at an advantage of clearing exam with a better score.
Given below is the distribution of topics from the syllabus of Class XII and Class XI in the exam:
BITSAT 2017 was considered to have a moderate level of difficulty as most of the questions were direct and conceptual. BITSAT 2017 seems to have been of moderate level still there were some difficult questions. The weightage of marks was almost same for Class XI and Class XII standard syllabi.
Subjects were of varying level of difficulty in which Physics was on the tougher side compared with Mathematics and Physics. A total of 450 marks on the scale of level of difficulty of BITSAT 2017 is as follows:
The table below provides us with a good insight about the toughness level of Questions of PCM:
Physics section was the toughest among all the other sections of the exam. It included many calculations based questions making the section time consuming and lengthy.
Given below is the chapter wise weightage of Physics section in BITSAT 2017:
|Topic||Syllabus||No. of Questions||Difficulty Level|
|Electricity and Magnetism||Class XII||15||Moderate|
|Heat and Thermodynamics||Class XI||4||Difficult|
|Modern Physics||Class XII||4||Easy|
|SHM & Waves||Class XI||2||Difficult|
Physics section was the toughest of all the four sections. It had 40 questions carrying 3 marks each. The majority of the questions appeared from the Electrostatics and Magnetic Field.
Students having a grip over these two units would have done fairly well in this section. Mechanics also had a good weightage with nearly 11 questions.
Here is a table providing the details of distribution of marks in Physics section across Units and Topics:
