NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
Candidates applying for XAT 2017 can take admission for the respective management programs at XLRI and XAMI (Xavier’s Associated Member Institutions) as well as nearly 140 participating institutes accepting XAT score. The XAT 2017 Selection Procedure however is expected to differ for XLRI & Associated member institutes and other participating colleges.

XLRI – Xavier School of Management offers MBA in Business Management (BM), Human Resource Management (HRM), Global MBA and General Management Program (GMP) which the candidate must indicate at the time of filling XAT Application Form. The selection process of XLRI on the basis of XAT 2017 score is likely to take place in the month of February-March, 2017.
Candidates applying for different institutes must confirm the selection process of that particular college/institute. As far as the XAT 2017 Selection Process for XLRI, Jamshedpur is concerned, the qualifying candidates have to take part in the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. The final merit list for all the participants would be based on the weightage assigned to each component of the selection process as well as the overall candidate profile.

The selection process of XAT 2017 will commence only after the declaration of XAT Results in ending week of January, 2017. Those candidates who clear the XAT cutoff will be invited to participate in the remaining rounds of XAT 2017 Selection Process.
For the purpose of XAT 2017 Selection Process – XLRI, candidates would be shortlisted on the basis of cutoff for XLRI and the performance of candidates in paper 2 of XAT. The selection of XAT 2017 primarily involves 3 stages:

In the first part of XAT 2017 exam, candidates are required to 78 questions from 3 different sections - Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making and Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. All the questionscarry equal marks and ¼ marks would be deducted for incorrect responses. The total duration for attempting first section is XAT 2017 170 minutes.
Candidates are expected to go through theExam Pattern of XAT 2017before appearing for the exam, to check out the important topics and topic wise marks distribution for each section.
NOTE: The score obtained by candidates in Part A will be used for the purpose of shortlisting candidates for GD/PI round.
The candidates have to attempt the second part of the XAT 2017 also in the same session.
There will be 35 questions from General Knowledge and an essay question. The total time allotted for attempting the second part is 35 minutes and additional time would be provided for attempting Essay question.
The score of General Knowledge and Essay section will be used for weightage at the time of final selection. Candidates should go through newspapers, business magazines and journals for preparing the General Knowledge section. To improve their ability to write essays, candidates are advised to practice writing essays on generic and business related topics.

The final round for selection of candidates is the GDPI round. Candidates are first invited to participate in the Group discussion round and then the selected candidates are called for Personal Interview at the XLRI campus, Jamshedpur. The shortlisting of candidates is done on the basis of XAT Cutoff.
In Group Discussion, Candidates are divided in small groups of 10-15 people. All the candidates are asked to discuss the on a common topic of General or real life business scenario to test their managerial and business acumen. All the groups are given a time of around 10-15 minutes for answering all the questions.
Candidates are tested on their ability to work as a team together. Candidates should aim to display optimistic, positive attitude and a natural tendency to resolve conflicts.
The points would be awarded to candidates who are able to initiate the discussion, negotiate with other team members, managerial skills to ensure that the discussion doesn’t move off the track, ability to persuade and encourage others to take part in the discussion and finally ability to close off the discussion in a smooth manner. Strong Analytical skills and an in-depth knowledge about the topic at hand are valued for the candidates.
The Personal interview would a direct interaction round between the candidates and selection committee. The panel for conducting the Personal Interview round would be decided by the admission committee of XLRI. This round is aimed at adjudging the overall personality of the candidate.
Candidates are expected to display calm demeanor and ability to think under pressure before the interview the jury. The panel aims to judge the overall persona of the candidate and their ability to gel in the academic environment of the University.
Some of the common qualities that the panel looks for in the candidates include a confident personality, creative thought process and ability to bring out innovative ideas out of the box. Some of the common questions asked are “Tell us something about yourself” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses”.
The eligibility criteria and past academic performance indicated by candidates during the registration process would be also validated by the selection committee. Candidates with good academic record from class 10th onwards and minimum 2 years of relevant work experience are likely to get some extra points at the time of calculating final percentile of the candidates.
The final selection of the candidates for different categories would be based on the combined performance of candidates in all the stages of selection process by assigning separate weightage to all the individual components of the selection process. The list of successful candidates would be displayed on the XLRI website and the candidates would report for the admission with all the requisite documents.
