XAT 2017 Registration

Candidates can apply online for XAT Registration 2017 till November 30, 2016. They have to visit official website and create new user account. They will receive a confimation mail with User Id and password. They can then fill the application form and submit the application fee. Registration fee is Rs. 1600/- (Rs 2000 as paying late till December 11, 2016). If the candidates are interested in any programme(s) offered by XLRI, they have to pay additional fees of Rs.300/- each(Rs. 500 per course when you pay late fee)

XAT 2017 Application Fees

The payment of application fees is an integral part of the XAT Registration. Candidates, irrespective of any category, have to pay the stipulated registration fees of Rs. 1600/-(Rs. 2000/- if you pay late fee). If the candidates are interested in the programmes offered by XLRI, they must pay an additional fees of Rs.300/- each(Rs. 500 if you pay late fee). Candidates can pay the XAT 2017 application fees using following modes of payment:

  1. Online Payment Gateway: Candidates can pay the fees through their VISA/Master - Credit & Debit Cards. American Express Card is not allowed. Those who have an account in IDBI Bank can make the payment through IDBI Net banking.
  2. Cash Payment: For this method, candidates will take a print-out of XAT Pay-in-Slip and take it to nearest IDBI bank to make the payments.
  3. Demand Draft: Candidates can make payments through this method by getting a Demand Draft made in favour of “XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT” payable at Jamshedpur.


  • In case the candidate selects Cash Payment and Demand Draft as mode of payment, then they must update the payment details on the registration page. If this process is not followed, then the candidates will not be able to upload their signature and photograph.
  • Candidates who are paying through Demand Draft must send a copy of the ‘Application Confirmation Page’ to the XAT office (XLRI Xavier School of Management, Circuit House Area (East), Jamshedpur 831001) by the second week of December 2016.
  • Candidates paying through Online Gateway and Cash Payment need not send any copy of confirmation page to XAT office.

Documents Required for XAT 2017 Application Process

For completing the registration process of XAT Candidates must keep a few important documents ready before filling XAT Application Form online:

  1. A valid e-mail id: An e-mail id is very important for the application procedure. All the important notifications will be sent to the candidate on their e-mail id. Also, to log-in on the XLRI profile page, every candidate would require the e-mail id.
  2. A scanned copy of the candidate’s recent passport size photograph.
  3. A scanned copy of the candidate’s signature.

The scanned copies of passport size photograph and the candidate’s signature must be in the ‘jpeg’ format and file name of Photograph and signature should preferably be ‘photo.jpeg’ and ‘sign.jpeg’ respectively. The size of both signature and photo must not be more than 1 MB.

Important points for Uploading Photograph

Applicants have to take their recent color passport size photograph in digital format. The picture should be taken against a light/white background. In case the face in the photograph is not clear, the application is liable to be rejected.

File size of each of the Photograph should not be more than 1 MB per file, otherwise it may not get uploaded.

To reduce the size, crop the image of the passport size photograph in MS Paint or any other Photo Editor. Ensure that only the full face portion is cropped and not the entire photograph.

Important points for Uploading Signature

The applicant should sign (no capital letters) on a white paper with a black ink pen.

Scan the signature in 200 DPI (dots per inch) scanner resolution settings and the file size should not be more than 1 MB in jpeg format.

To reduce the size, crop the image of the signature in MS Paint or any other Photo Editor. Ensure that only the signature portion is cropped and not the entire A4 paper on which you have signed.

Compressing the file size of Photograph and Signature to 1 MB

Applicants should open their digital or scanned photograph and signature, in MS Paint by right clicking on the photograph/signature.

Press Ctrl + W, a window will open which will have an option ‘resize by %’. Here enter anything between 10% and 50% and save the file with an extension ‘.jpeg’.

Check the size of the file in ‘properties’. If the file size is still higher than 1 MB, follow the same procedure again for resizing till it comes down to 1 MB. Save the files with the file name as ‘photo.jpeg’ and ‘sign.jpeg’.

XAT 2017 Application Process

The application process of XAT 2017 involves primarily six steps to be completed - Registration, filling of application form, uploading of images and documents, payment process, printing of confirmation page and sending of form.  Candidates should be aware of how to apply for XAT before proceeding with  Application Form filling. The step-by-step process is discussed below:-

Step 1 – XAT 2017 Registration

  1. Candidates are advised to visit the official website on ‘register’
  2. Applicants will have to create a new account with their personal email ID. On the registered e-mail ID, they will receive a unique XAT ID and registration link.
  3. Candidates will click on this link to create their own password. The candidates will use XAT ID and Password whenever they want to login next time.

Step 2- Filling XAT 2017 Application Form

  1. After the applicants have logged in, they should select their Citizenship from ‘Indian/ Foreign / NRI’ options.
  2. If the candidate is interested in applying for courses in XLRI, they will select the programme from following pool of courses:
  • Business Management (BM)
  • Human Resource Management (HRM)
  • Global Business Management(GBM)
  • General Management Programme (GMP)
  1. If the candidates are not interested in XLRI programmes, they skip the previous step.
  2. Next, the candidates should provide their personal details such as, Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Category and Phone Number etc.
  3. Candidates will also have to fill their mailing address and permanent address.
  4. Next, the applicants will fill their educational qualification starting from Class X onwards.
  5. Finally, the applicant should fill the details of their work experience starting from the latest job. Candidates who want to apply for GMP course must have total work experience of five years till March, 31st 2017.
  6. Applicants should also indicate their preferred test city for XAT in the form and check a preview of the inputs they have entered.

Step 3 – Uploading of images and documents

In the next step, candidates have to upload a scanned copy of their passport size photograph and their personal signature. The size of both must not exceed 1 MB.

Step 4 – XAT 2017 Application fee Payment

Candidates should select the appropriate mode of payment for submitting the application fees. There are 3 options available for mode of payment: Online Gateway through Credit card and debit card; Cash Payment by visit the nearest branch of IDBI bank; demand draft from any bank made in favour of XLRI Jamshedpur A/C XAT.

Step 5 - Printing of Confirmation Page

After remitting the Application fees, candidates would be able to view the confirmation page. It is advised to keep a copy of the confirmation page for future references.

Step 6 - Sending of Form

Candidates who have made the payment of fees through Demand Draft must send a copy of confirmation page along with the Demand Draft to the following address within 15 days from date of issuance of demand draft:

XAT 2017 Application Process through GMAT

Admission is also open to the following categories who have obtained GMAT scorebetween the years December 1, 2014 and December 20, 2016 for following programmes:

  • NRI’s interested in applying to BM, HRM Global MBA and GMP courses
  • Indians interested in applying to GMP and Global MBA courses

The XAT Application Process through GMAT also involves registration, filling up of application form, paying the application process, uploading the documents, printing the confirmation page and sending the application form. The application process for XAT 2017 through GMAT is given in step-by-step process below:

Step 1 - Registration

  1. Candidates must log- in to official portal for GMAT score holders: to create a new log-in. Candidates will fill the details such as GMAT details, personal information, interview city, etc. and submit the same to receive unique user id (GMT ID) and password on the email provided by the candidate.
  2. The candidates should click on the link in their e-mail which will open the log-in page as shown below.

XAT Application Process

  1. Candidates will enter their login id and password to continue filling the application form.

Step 2 - Filling up the application form

Candidates have to select the XLRI programmes in order of priority from the programmes offered which are BM, HRM and GMP.

Step 3 - Payment Process

  1. Candidates should choose a mode of payment from two available modes of payments: Online Gateway and Demand Draft.
  2. To pay through Online gateway, candidates can use VISA/ Master, credit/Debit cards. American express card is not acceptable. For candidates who have account in IDBI bank can pay through IDBI Net Banking.
  3. If making payments through Demand Draft, candidates will draw the demand draft in favour of ‘XLRI Programmes’ payable at Jamshedpur. Candidates paying through DD will update the payment detail in the registration page otherwise they will not be allowed to upload photograph.
  4. All NRI candidates have to pay the fees of Rs. 5000/- for irrespective to any number of programmes. All Indian Candidates have to pay the fees of Rs. 2500/- irrespective to any number of programmes.

Step 4 - Uploading the photograph

After the payment of fees, candidates can upload their scanned digital passport size photograph. The size of the photo must not exceed 1 MB. (Candidates can see the ‘documents required’ section to know more)

Step 5 - Printing the confirmation page

Candidates should be able to print the XLRI GMAT confirmation page after filling the online XAT Application form and uploading photograph & signature.

Step 6 - Sending the confirmation page

Candidates who have paid the fees through Demand Draft have to send a copy of confirmation page along with DD to the address given below within 15 days of issuance of Demand draft:

The shortlisted candidates will then be informed individually by XLRI.

XAT 2017 Admit Card

Eligible candidates whose application have been submitted successfully will be able to download their XAT Admit Cards from the official website: The admit cards will be available for download in December 20, 2016.

The admit card is an important piece of document which must be carried to the examination hall in January 8, 2017. The XAT Admit card would have the following information:

  • Name of the Candidate
  • Candidate’s roll number
  • Exam date and time
  • Exam venue and centre details
  • Important instructions of the exam

To download the XAT 2017 Admit Card, candidates should follow the steps given below:

  1. Visit the official website and click on the link, ‘Download Admit Card’
  2. Candidates will be redirected to a new page where they will enter XAT registration number and  date of birth in DD/MM/YY format
  3. Download and take print out of the XAT Admit Card


Ques. In graduation, I have secured less than 50% which is the required eligibility. Can I still apply for XAT 2017?

Ans.   Yes, you are eligible and can apply for XAT 2017.

Ques. I am in the final year of my graduation. Am I eligible for applying to XAT 2017 and other XLRI Programmes?

Ans.   Yes, you can apply for both XAT and XLRI Programmes. However, you are required to complete your graduation before June, 2017.

Ques. I am in my final year of graduation and wish to apply for XAT 2017. What percentage of marks should I fill in the application form?

Ans.   You have to enter the aggregate percentage of marks obtained till the time of filling the application form of XAT 2017.

Ques. Are the marks of class 10th and 12th board used in the preparation of XAT/ XLRI merit list?

Ans.   No they are not used to prepare the merit list.

Ques.  How is the academic record used in the selection process?

Ans.   The XLRI does not base its selection process on X, XII or graduation marks. The candidates academic competence will be evaluated by XLRI based on candidate’s performance in interview, group discussion and XAT written test.

Ques. I don’t have work experience but have done internship/ articleship. Do they count as my work experience?

Ans.   No they will not be counted as your work experience.

Ques. I have some work experience before my graduation. Will that be counted as work experience?

Ans.   No, any work experience before graduation will not be counted as work experience.

Ques. How can I check my photo and signature before my admit card is generated?

Ans.   After your registration process is complete and once you have made the payments, you will be able to download the confirmation page and there you can check your photograph and signature.

Ques. I was paying the XAT 2017 application fees through Online gateway from a credit card and after the payment I am unable to see the final confirmation. The system is not able to give a reference no. and I can see the message ‘Page Expired’ even though the bank has confirmed the debit. What do I do?

Ans.   This could be a system error which would normally resolve by 1 pm the next day. Candidate must check their id. You should be receiving a message for successful payment. If the message is not received with 24-48 hours, then send an e-mail to Don’t make a second payment immediately.

Ques. I think I have accidently paid twice using online option. What do I do now?

Ans.   Don’t worry, just send an e-mail to with your XAT ID, date of payment, card holder name and credit/debit card details (first four and last four digits and card expiry date). Your request will be handled. 

Ques. I lost my XAT pay-in-slip, where can I obtain another one?

Ans.   Go to the IDBI Bank Branch where you paid the fees with the copy of confirmation page and request them to give you a photocopy of the pay-in-slip and put copy along with bank’s original seal and signature on it. Be careful of the slip this time!

Ques.  I am having problems in making payments through online gateway. What should I do?

Ans.   An internet payment is bound to be interfered with system or network problems. It is advised to make cash payments for paying the registration fees.

Ques. I forgot my XAT password and can’t login.

Ans.   Click on ‘Forgot Password’ and follow the procedure and you can then generate a new password.

Ques. When can I check & confirm if XLRI Office has received my XLRI confirmation page?

Ans. XLRI office on receiving of the XLRI Registration Confirmation Page will verify from the bank and update the details on a first come first served basis. Candidates have to log in through their XAT id to check if their form has been received or not.

Ques. I have sent the XLRI Confirmation Page through courier/speed post and have been informed that my envelope has been delivered but I do not see a confirmation receipt after logging in.

Ans.   It could take a few days for XLRI Office to verify the documents and update. Kindly log in after a few days.
