UPSEE 2017 Eligibility

The exam is conducted by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow for admission to B.Tech./ B.Arch./ B.Tech. (Lateral Entry) programmes at the colleges and institutions affiliated to the AKTU and other colleges and universities within the territory of the state of Uttar Pradesh. Prior to filling and submitting the UPSEE 2017 Application Form, the applicants must ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria for taking the entrance examination. The candidates applying for undergraduate courses must have passed 10+2 and the candidates applying for postgraduate courses must have passed 

Also, there is reservation of seats for B.Tech./ B.Arch. courses for candidates who belong to certain categories such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), OBC, defence quota, girl child etc. and the provisions of reservation of seats are both horizontal and vertical.

UPSEE 2017 Eligibility criteria

Below stated are the lists of Eligibility Criteria for B.tech., B.tech. Biotechnology, B.Arch., B.Tech. Agriculture Engineering:

For B.Tech. courses

  • Candidate must have passed intermediate examination of U.P. Board or 10+2 level examination or its equivalent from any recognized Board / University.
  • Candidate should have passed without grace in each of the compulsory subjects and one optional subject as given in the following table.
  • Candidates must have secured minimum 45% marks (40% marks for SC/ ST category) in aggregate in the required three subjects.

For B.Arch. course:

  • Candidate must have passed intermediate examination of U.P. Board or 10+2 level examination or its equivalent from any recognized Board / University.
  • Candidate should have passed without grace in each of the compulsory subjects and one optional subject as given in the following table.
  • Candidates must have secured minimum 50% marks in aggregate in the required three subjects.
  • Candidates having a three years Diploma in Architecture (10+3) recognized by Central / State Government are also eligible for admission in first year of B. Arch. only, subject to the condition that the candidate has passed the Diploma examination with minimum 50% marks in aggregate without grace. They will also be required to appear in the entrance examination for first year of B. Arch. Paper 4.

Note: Those candidates eligible for admission in the B.Tech. programme will also be eligible for B.Tech. (Agriculture Engineering) and B.Tech. (Biotechnology).

Subjects requirement for UPSEE 2017

The requirement of the combination of subjects in the qualifying examination (intermediate examination of U.P. Board, or 10+2 level examination, or its equivalent) for admission in the first year of B.tech., B.tech. Biotechnology, B.Arch., B.Tech. Agriculture Engineering is tabulated below:

The candidates have the provision of lateral entry also. For Lateral Entry in the B. Tech. courses the following Eligibility Criteria are followed:

  • Direct Admission (Lateral Entry) in the second year of B.Arch. programme is not allowed.
  • Lateral entry in B.Tech. for Engg. Diploma holders or B.Sc. Graduates with Mathematics as one of the subject at XII standard, is offered in the institutions affiliated to AKTU, Lucknow only.

Candidates must fulfil the following eligibility requirement for admission in second year in any branch of Engineering / Technology (Lateral Entry)

  • Passed three years Engg. Diploma from a U.P. Institution, with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ ST)
Or
  • Parents (father or mother) with domicile of Uttar Pradesh and passed three years Engg. Diploma with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ ST) recognized by the Board of Technical Education, U.P., in any branch of Engineering (except Agriculture Engg., Pharmacy and Architecture).
  • Passed three years B.Sc. degree from any recognized University with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ ST) in aggregate and passed XII standard with mathematics as one of the subjects.

Candidates must fulfil the following eligibility requirement for admission in second year of Agriculture Engg. (Lateral Entry):

  • Passed three years Diploma in Agriculture Engg. from a U.P. Institution with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ ST) Or
  • Parents (father or mother) with domicile of U.P. and passed three years Diploma in Agriculture Engg. with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ ST) from an institution recognized by the Board of Technical Education, U.P.

UPSEE 2017 Eligibility Criteria for NRI

These are the eligibility criteria applicable for NRI quota for admission into the first year:

  • NRI candidates are required to fulfil the following eligibility criteria to get direct admission on the 5% seats of the total intake in State Funded and Private Institutions of Uttar Pradesh in all B.Tech., B.Arch. courses.
  • However, candidates under NRI category, opting for the B.Arch. programme will be required to appear in Aptitude Test on the day of counselling (to be notified later).

The NRI quota seats (5%) will be filled in the following manner:

  1. NRIs, who have fulfil the following two criteria:
    • Passed the qualifying examination, which is considered equivalent to 10+2 examination by the Association of Indian Universities, from an Institution which is outside India, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. OR Passed High School Certificate Education (GCE) examination with Physics, Chemistry and Higher Mathematics (A) from London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka.
    • Taken the SAT II examination with Mathematics level II C, Physics and Chemistry. The relative merit will be decided on the basis of the SAT-II score.
  2. If any vacant seats are left after the above, they will be filled up by son/ daughter /real brother/ real sister of NRIs. They must have passed intermediate or (10+2) or equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, without grace. They must also secure minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ ST) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (in aggregrate of these three), from an institution in India.
  3. The children of real brother/ sisters and son/ daughter of NRIs may be considered in case the seats remain vacant after admitting the eligible NRI, their son/ daughter and real brother/ sister.
  4. The relative merit of the eligible NRI candidates will be decided on the basis of the total marks obtained by them in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. These candidates are not required to appear in the UPSEE 2017.
  5. Candidates under this quota, must submit an NRI certificate obtained from Indian Diplomatic Mission / Chancellery / High Commission under their seal, at the time of counselling.
  6. They are also required to submit sufficient documents clarifying without any ambiguity, their true relationship with the sponsoring NRI, to the satisfaction of the University.
  7. Those candidates who apply under this quota, will be informed separately about the date of counselling, and the final number of seats under this quota. They must be present in person on the day of counselling with original documents/ certificates, and failing to do so will result in losing the claim for a seat under this quota.

Eligibility for admission to Foreign National (FN)/ Persons of Indian Origins (PIO)/ Children of Indian Workers in Gulf countries (CIWGC) in first year

The seats for the FN/ PIO/ CIWGC seats will be filled by Foreign Nationals / PIO/ CIWGC who:

  1. Have passed the qualifying examination, which is considered equivalent to (10+2) examination by the Association of Indian Universities, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  2. Possess a valid SAT-II score with Mathematics level II C, Physics and Chemistry.
  3. Must submit a copy of passport or equivalent evidence in support of their nationality. The relative merit for the candidates will be decided on the basis of the SAT-II score.

Eligibility for Direct Admission to first year in Private Institutions at Institute Level under Management Quota (for NRI candidates)/ Vacant seats after counselling of UPSEE 2017

  • 15% seats in private institutions will be filled by the NRI candidates under management quota.
  • The vacant seats in NRI/ Management quota or the vacant seats after UPSEE 2017 counselling will be filled in the preference order given below, within fifteen days of the last date of counselling:
  1. First, by the qualified candidates of JEE (Main) 2017 who fulfil the eligibility criteria for B.Tech./ B.Arch programmes. The relative merit will be decided on the basis of their ranks in the respective entrance examinations.
  2. Second, by the qualified candidates of UPSEE 2017, the relative merit will be decided on the basis of their ranks in UPSEE 2017.
  3. Third, by the merit of the candidates in the qualifying examination with the following conditions:

Eligibility for Direct Admission (Lateral Entry) to second year in Private Institutions under Vacant seats after counselling of UPSEE 2017 

  • After the UPSEE 2017 counselling for lateral entry (second year), the vacant seats for the B. Tech. Programme will be filled within 15 days of the last date of counselling, at institute level, firstly by the eligible, qualified candidates of UPSEE 2017 (the relative merit will be decided on the basis of the ranks in UPSEE 2017).
  • If any seats still remain vacant, they will be filled on the basis of merit by candidates who have passed the qualifying examination with minimum marks of 50% (45% for SC/ ST) in aggregate, without any grace marks.

Category Definitions for UPSEE 2017

The various categories accepted for reservation in the UPSEE 2017 are detailed below:

  1. General (OPEN) seats:

Candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination or equivalent, from an institution situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh and who have not claimed any reserved category seat, are eligible for admission to B. Tech/ B.Arch. programmes at all the institutions against available General (OPEN) seats.

Certificate Requirement: They are not required to produce any category certificate for admission. 

Category code: UPGE

  1. Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribe/ Other Backward Classes:

Candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination from an institution situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh and are domicile of U.P. and belong to Scheduled Caste (SC) of U.P./ Schedule Tribe (ST) of U.P./ Other Backward Classes of U.P. are eligible for admission to B.Tech/ B.Arch. programmes, against the available reserved seats under this category.

Certificate Requirement: They are required to produce Certificate No. 1 or 2, as applicable.

Category code:  UPSC / UPST/ UPBC

  1. General (Qualifying Exam outside UP, with parent’s domicile):

Candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination from an institution situated outside the state of Uttar Pradesh and whose parents are domicile of U.P., and who have not claimed any seats under any reserved category, are also eligible for admission to courses offered at all institutions under General (OPEN) category for admission to B.Tech/ B.Arch. programmes.

Certificate Requirement: They are required the domicile certificate of his/her parents (Father or Mother only) at the time of counselling (Certificate No. 3 is required from such candidates).

Category code:  UPGD

  1. Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribe/ Other Backward Classes (Qualifying Exam outside UP, with parent’s domicile):

Candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination from an institution situated outside the state of Uttar Pradesh and whose parents are domicile of U.P., and who belong to Schedule Caste of U.P. / Schedule Tribe of U.P. / Other Backward classes of U.P. are eligible for admission to B.Tech/ B.Arch. programmes, against the available reserved seats under this category.

Certificate Requirement: They are required to produce the domicile certificate of his/ her parents (Father or Mother only) (Certificate No. 3) and Category Certificate (Certificate No. 1 or 2 as applicable) at the time of counselling.

Category code:  GDSC/GDST/GDBC

  1. Defence Category:

The domicile requirement for the son/ daughter of following is relaxed: (i) defence personnel settled in U.P. on the date of Entrance Examination after retirement/ being disabled in action or Defence personnel killed in action and the dependents settled in U.P. on the date of Entrance Examination. (ii) defence personnel who are not domicile of U.P., but are posted in U.P. on the date of Entrance Examination. (iii) employee of All India Services belonging to U. P. cadre.

Certificate Requirement: Certificate no. 5 is required for candidates belonging to (i) and (ii) and Certificate no. 11 is required for (iii).

Category code: GDDA

GDDA candidates will be considered as UPGD category for all other benefits. (Certificate no. 5 is required.

  1. Outside U.P., Non- Domicile:

Candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination from an institution situated outside the state of U.P. and whose parents are not domicile of U.P. These candidates, along with candidates of the other categories, will be considered only against 10% of the sanctioned intake of first year in B.Tech./ B.Arch. programmes in the private institutions affiliated to AKTU, Lucknow.

Certificate Requirement: They are not required to produce any category certificate for admission.

Reservation of Seats for UPSEE 2017

Horizontal reservation in Armed force sub-category is available to the sons or daughters of ‘defence personnel of U.P. either retired (Superannuated) or killed/ disabled in action, and the dependents settled in U.P.’ or ‘the defence personnel posted in U.P.’ on the date of the UPSEE 2017 examination.

Note:

  • Candidates will be given only one type of horizontal reservation out of UPFF/ UPAF/ UPHC. However, the girl candidates can claim for any one of UPFF/ UPAF/ UPHC, along with UPGL.
  • Any requests for the change of category/ sub- category filled in the UPSEE 2017 Application Form will not be entertained.
  • Candidates must produce all the relevant Category/ sub- category certificates in the support of their claim at the time of counselling. If a candidate claiming a seat under reservation fails in producing these certificates at the time of counselling, he/ she will be treated as General Category candidate.
