TISSNET Selection Procedure, Admissions

 

TISSNET 2018 selection procedure will take place after the declaration of TISSNET Results. Candidates who qualify TISSNET, obtain the minimum cut off score and have secured a place in the final merit list, will be called for further rounds of TISSNET selection procedure. The announcement of selection on TISS website for all the Programmes will be made in April 2018.

TISSNET 2018 Selection Procedure assess a candidate on the basis of three stages. They have been given below:

  • National Entrance Test (TISSNET)
  • Pre Interview Test / Group Discussion (GD)
  • Personal Interview (PI)

Dates for TISSNET 2017 GD/PI

TISSNET Results 2017 were declared on February 10, 2017. After its declaration, qualifying candidates will be called for further rounds of selection i.e. Group Discussion and Personal Interview. In group discussion and personal interview, candidates are tested on their knowledge of the subject chosen. The dates of group discussion and Personal Interview (campus wise) are as follows

TISSNET 2017 Selection Stages’ Weightage

There are 3 components in the entire TISSNET 2017 selection process and each component carries different marks. Candidates must be aware of the marking scheme for these various components as well as their weightage.

The marking scheme and weightage assigned to various rounds is presented below-

As seen above, TISSNET, the entrance exam, has the most marks allotted to it i.e. 100 marks. Second highest marks have been allotted to Personal Interview Process which is worth 75 marks. The Pre-Interview Test or Group discussion round has the least marks allotted to it and is worth 50 marks.

The entire TISSNET 2017selection process carries a total of 225 marks. On the other hand, the weightage for NET, PIT and PI is 40%, 30% and 30% respectively. Clearly, the first round of entrance test carries the most weight while the next two rounds carry equal weight.


TISSNET 2017 PIT/ GD

Candidates who get shortlisted post TISSNET, will be invited for the subsequent round- Pre-Interview Test / Group Discussion. In this round, students will be required to participate in a test or a GD, depending on the institute. This round will be held at TISS Mumbai between March 2018.

The Pre-Interview Test is a written test conducted as part of the TISSNET 2018 Selection Procedure. The test will be conducted for students who have been shortlisted after the entrance examination for TISS. For all the programmes across TISS Campuses, the PIT will be in the form of a Written Test or a Group Discussion.

Eligibility for Pre-Interview Test

It may be noted that following are the eligibility criteria for the second round of TISSNET 2017 selection process of –

  • Shortlisting of candidates will be done on the basis of merit list for TISSNET 2017 online entrance test
  • TISSNET 2017 Cut off marks for the entrance exam will be decided by the Institute at a later stage
  • Only short-listed candidates will be given invitation letters
  • The second round will be conducted in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Guwahati at the institute’s respective campuses.

Detailed Application Form for all Programmes

Candidates short-listed for rounds of PIT and PI will be required to download the Detailed Application Form, which is expected to be available in the 3rd week of February 2017. Regularly checking the website of TISS for all possible updates is strongly recommended to the candidates.

Facilities available during PIT at TISS Campuses

Some facilities will be provided to the candidates who travel to the TISS campus for the TISSNET 2017 selection procedure. For instance, candidates can purchase coupons from the Cash Counter and the Hostel In-charge, if they wish to have tea or lunch in the Dining Hall of the Institute.

Facilities for SC and ST Candidates Eligible for Govt. of India Post-Matric Scholarship

Those candidates who belong to the category of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) and are eligible for the Post-Matric Scholarship provided by Government of India will be able to avail of the following facilities -

  1. Reimbursement of Travelling Allowance (TA)

In case the SC/ST candidates are unemployed and their parent’s/guardian’s income has been less than Rs. 2.5 lakh, during the financial year 2015–2016 and have submitted a certificate to this effect, they will be provided to-and-fro travel expenses immediately after the Online Written Test is over at every centre, only if they are appearing for the test for the first time.

Candidates may note that the reimbursement of the travel expenses will depend on submission of their ticket and only on production of caste/tribe and income certificate.

The SC/ST and OBC (NC) candidates will have to fill in the TA form provided and provide a photocopy of the call letter for Online Written Test before appearing for it. The money must be collected as soon as the test is over.

  1. Reporting at the Institute for PIT and PI

SC/ST candidates, who are eligible for such facilities, will be required to report at any one or two TISS Campuses only after receiving the call letter/mail for PIT and PI.

Their to-and-fro travel expenses from both the campuses will be reimbursed.

  1. It may be noted that the SC/ST candidates, who have already availed of such services, but were not chosen in a previous attempt and who have been called for the test again will not be compensated their travel expenditures.

The boarding, lodging and travelling expenses incurred by them during the admission rounds at the Institute will be recompensed only if they are selected.

  1. An important point to keep in mind is that the SC/ST candidates, who have received financial assistance to enrol for a Master’s Degree course in one field, will not be eligible for similar provisions, if they apply for another Master’s Degree course.

TISSNET 2017 Personal Interview

The final round of the TISSNET 2017selection process is Personal Interview (PI). Candidates who have been selected after the round of Pre-Interview Test or Group Discussion will be eligible for this step. For the round of PI, candidates are expected to be acquainted with the programme for which they have applied. Questions may be asked regarding their programme during the Personal Interview (PI).

Centres for PIT/PI

It is important for applicants to note that second and third rounds of selection for courses offered at campuses of Mumbai, Tuljapur, MHAT, Banyan and Ranchi will be held at the Mumbai Campus. For programmes offered at Hyderabad and Guwahati, the PIT/PI will be conducted at the respective campuses. Candidates applying for programmes at more than one campus will have to travel to these places for PIT/PI.


TISSNET 2017 Merit List Preparation

There are certain factors taken into consideration while preparing the TISSNET merit list. Based on the merit list for each programme, the list of selected candidates is put up on the website. Each candidate will also receive a score card indicating the marks for each component of the examination process. The following things play a role in the preparation of the TISSNET 2017 merit list –

  • The weightage for NET, PIT and PI for General as well as for Reserved Category candidates is as shown:  NET – 40%, PIT – 30%, PI – 30%.
  • The merit list is prepared on the basis of merit and the preferences indicated by the candidates at the time of filling up the online application form.
  • Rules followed when there is a tie in the score of two candidates –
  1. First their PI marks will be compared and the one with more marks will be considered.
  2. If PI marks are also same, their PIT marks will be compared and the one with more marks will be chosen.
  3. If PIT marks are same too, then the Entrance test marks will be compared and the one with more marks will be selected.
  4. If Entrance marks are also the same, then the candidate higher in age will be given the seat.

TISSNET 2017 Wait-List Preparation

Some rules have to be observed while undertaking the preparation of the wait-list for TISSNET. These rules are as stated below –

  • Candidates who get admission into their first preferred option will not be on wait-lists for any other courses at all.
  • Candidates, who are admitted into their second preferred option, will only be retained in the wait list of their first preference. Those who get admission into any course which is their third preferred, will be retained in the wait list of their first and second preferences.
  • Candidates, who get admitted in any course that is lower on their preference list, will be retained in the wait-list of a course that is higher on their list, till the seats in that course are filled.
  • In case, the candidate qualifies in more than one course simultaneously, when the wait list is activated, the course that is higher on the list will prevail. Admission will be provided only into the one preferred more.
  • If a candidate, who has been admitted in a course according to the first merit list, is later offered a higher course upon activation of wait list, he will be transferred into the better preferred course and will be intimated.

TISSNET 2017 Admission Rules

TISS has laid out certain rules that need to be followed during TISS Admission. Candidates must follow them for a smooth admission process. Read 

1) Canvassing in any matter for securing admission shall render a candidate disqualified.

2) Eligibility rules as specified for each course shall be strictly followed and shall not be relaxed under any circumstances. Candidate should satisfy himself / herself that he / she fulfil the eligibility requirements prescribed for the admission to the concerned course of the study.

3) Candidates awaiting result of qualifying examination may also apply for admission with the clear understanding that their selection will be entitled to admission only if they fulfil all eligibility requirements of concerned course of study at the time of admission.

4) Changes, if any, made in the admission rules and / or in the eligibility criteria from time to time shall be applicable to candidates seeking admission in the TISS even after notification.

5) Application form shall not be transferred from one course of study to another under any circumstances.

6 ) A candidate whose qualifying examination is not recognized by this university shall not be eligible for admission. All such Application Forms / admissions shall be rejected / cancelled.

7 ) Application forms may be rejected if in case of the following

  1. Incomplete Application
  2. Received without requisite fee
  3. Received after the Last date
  4. Received with Invalid documents.

and no correspondence shall be entertained in this regard. No relaxation in the last date shall be granted.

8) Admit card to appear in the Admission Test will be issued by the TISS only to those candidates whose application form, complete in all respects, has been received in the TISS on or before last date of application.

9 ) No admit Card will be sent by post. Admit cards will only be downloadable from the TISS website.

  1. Candidates are required to paste their recent passport size photograph if not printed properly on admit card in the space provided on the downloaded Admit Card ( Same as affixed on the Application Form ) and hand over the admit Card to the Invigilator on the duty at the Test centre.

11) The candidate should ensure that he/ she has in his / her possession the proper Admit Card before he / she reaches the Test Centre.

12) The candidates should contact immediately the Office concerned where he / she submitted his / her Application Form in case of any discrepancy in the Admit card in order to avoid any last minute inconvenience.

13) TISS assumes no responsibility what so ever in the event of failure to report on the due date and time by the candidate for appearing in the Admission Test.


TISSNET 2017 FAQ’s

Ques. What is the selection procedure for TISSNET?

Ans: TISS has its own National  Entrance Test i.e. TISS NET  which will be held on Saturday in the month of January 9 , 2016 for the academic year 2016-2018 from 2pm to 3.40 pm. The selection process comprises of 3 steps:

  1. National Entrance Test ( Computer based Exam )

  2. ii) Descriptive type written test

  3. iii) Personal Interview for all programmes.

  4. Please note we do not accept CAT / MAT / CET / GRE / GMAT scores.

Ques. Do you have any cut-off marks for the selection?

Ans: Yes, minimum qualifying marks for written test is 35% (for SC/ST) and 45% (for others). However, scoring mere qualifying marks in the written test does not guarantee a seat for a programme. Admission is based on Merit List. For more details, please refer to Information Brochure under “Selection Procedure”.

Ques. How many times one can appear for the entrance test?

Ans: You can make attempts as many as you want.
