TANCET 2017 Exam Dates, Application Form, Admit Card, Exam Pattern

TANCET 2017 application process is ongoing. Candidates can apply online till February 20, 2017. The application fee is Rs 500 for General category and Rs 250 for reserved category. Candidates wishing to apply for more than 1 course have to pay Rs 500 per additional course.

The entrance test for MBA and MCA is scheduled on March 25, 2017 at different time slots. TANCET for M.E./M.Tech/M.Plan is scheduled on March 26, 2017. Exam will be conducted at 15 test centers. 

TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) is a state level exam, conducted every year by Anna University on behalf of Government of Tamil Nadu. Through TANCET Exam, candidates can get admission in M.E./ M. Tech, MCA and MBA Programmes offered by engineering colleges/ universities in Tamil Nadu. TANCET is held separately for MBA, MCA & M.Tech/ME programmes. However, GATE 2017 qualified candidates need not appear for the exam. Check TANCET 2017 Cutoff

TANCET 2017 Eligibility

As TANCET will be held separately for all the programmes, the eligibility criteria for them will also be different. For every type of exam, a certain set of rules and conditions is applied to every candidate. If the candidate satisfies the criteria, then he/ she will be able to participate in the TANCET Exam. A Candidate who is not eligible as per the criteria will be exempted from the TANCET Application Process. Candidates can go through the TANCET Eligibility Criteria indicated below.

For MBA Course

  • Candidate must hold Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University (minimum of 3 years)
  • They should have secured a minimum of 50% General category & 45% of marks for reserved Category.

For MCA Course

  • Candidate must hold Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University (minimum of 3 years)
  • They should have mathematics as a major subject at class 12 level or graduate level.
  • For General Category, minimum percentage marks criteria is 50% and for reserved category 45% in the qualifying degree examination.

For MCA (Lateral Entry)

  • Candidate must hold Bachelor’s degree in BCA/B.Sc. (Computer science/Information Technology) from a recognized University
  • They should have mathematics as major subject in class 12 or at graduate level.
  • For General Category, minimum percentage marks criteria is 50% and for reserved category 45% in the qualifying degree examination.

For ME/M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan

  • Candidate must hold Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized category.
  • For General Category, minimum percentage marks criteria is 50% and for reserved category 45% in the qualifying degree examination.

Note: GATE 2017 qualified candidates do not need to appear for the TANCET Exam. But, for the candidates with genuine GATE Score in Life Science and Engineering Science will have to appear for TANCET.


TANCET 2017 Application Process

Candidates can apply for TANCET 2017 through online mode only. The TANCET 2017 Application Form will be available on the TANCET Official website. The window for TANCET Registration became funtional from January 29, 2017. For all the three programmes, candidates are required to fill only one TANCET Application. One can go through the steps that they need to follow to fill the same.

Through Online Mode:

Step 1 – Registration: Candidate has to visit official website. Click on Online Registration. Then register as new user. For this he/she has to create a new account by providing unique email id, name and other details. The candidate will then has to set a Password.

Step 2 – Fill in the Application Form: Candidate has to login by providing their ID and Password. Then, they will have to fill all the academic details, upload the photos (.jpeg format of Max 25 KB). One should revise all the details filled before hitting the Submit button.

Step 3 – Payment:Candidate has to make online payment. After successful payment, a completed application form will be generated as PDF. Download it for the future reference.

The Application Process for TANCET will be completed successfully after the Application Fee is paid for the same. The fee as per the candidate’s category has been mentioned below.

TANCET 2017Admit Card

TANCET 2017 admit card will be available for download in first week of March. Those candidates who have successfully registered can download their admit card from the TANCET official website. Also, candidates can obtain admit card in person from the respective coordinating centers.

Steps to download TANCET 2017 Admit Card 

  • Visit Anna University Website
  • Click on TANCET 2017 link
  • Click on Download Admit Card
  • Enter Details such as Registration Number and Date of Birth
  • Save your Admit Card in Pdf format.

Duplicate Admit Card

If in case a candidate misplaces his/ her admit card after the exam, then he/she can obtain a duplicate admit card against the payment of Rs. 100/-. The fee should be paid through Demand Draft with a request indicating the application number and name of examination centre to the Secretary, Anna University, Chennai -600025. The Demand Draft can be drawn from any nationalized bank.

Enquiry Office:

If Candidates faces any kind of problem in downloading admit card or there is any correction needed in the admit card or any query regarding examination centre. Then they can approach to the Centre for Enquiry Office.

TANCET 2017 Exam Centres

TANCET will take place in 15 major centres. The TANCET Exam Centre will be mentioned on the candidate’s TANCET Admit Card. 



TANCET 2017 Exam Pattern

TANCET 2017 will be pen and paper based test of 2 hours to answer 100 questions for 100 marks. TANCET 2017 for M. Tech/ ME / M. Plan. /M. Arch, the paper will be divided into 3 parts accounting to a total of 100 questions for 100 marks. The candidates will be awarded 1 marks for every correct answer, while 1/3 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer. Given below table will give you a brief idea about the general pattern of TANCET 2017.

TANCET 2017 Result

  • The result of TANCET 2017 will release in first week of July.
  • Counseling process will start within 15 days of declaration of the result.
  • Candidates can check their result on official website by entering their registration number and Date of Birth

Calculation of Scores

Candidates’ score will be calculated on the Raw Scores (Marks scored by a candidate in TANCET 2017)  and Normalized Scores obtained. Both scores will be calculated as follows :-

  • Raw Score- Marks scores by candidate in Part-1 + Part-2 + Part-3 in TANCET 2017
  • Part 1 means Engineering Mathematics, Part 2 means basic engineering & Science and Part 3 is for different Disciplines.
  • Normalised Score- The Mean marks of Raw Scores for different discipline may vary. The conducting authority will use following formula for calculating normalized score :-

TANCET 2017 Merit List

The Competent authorities will prepare three separate merit lists for admission through TANCET 2017. The three merit lists will be for GATE 2017 Qualifiers, TANCET 2017 Candidates and Sponsored Category Candidates.

  • GATE 2017 CATEGORY MERIT LIST: -For Candidates (Engineering/Technology), GATE 2017 Score will be taken into account for preparing merit. For Engineering Science and Life Science paper Codes, Merit list will be prepared on the basis of Candidate’s GATE 2017 score in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers and TANCET 2017 score with a weightage of 70:30. Also a Common Merit List is prepared for GATE (Engineering/Technology) and GATE (Engineering Science XE, Life Science XL).
  • TANCET 2017 CATEGORY MERIT LIST:-The Merit List is prepared on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in TANCET 2017.
  • SPONSORED CATEGORY MERIT LIST:-A small number of seats are made available to candidates employed and sponsored by Governmental organizations, Government aided educational institutions and registered professional architects with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience..Merit list will be prepared on the basis of TANCET 2017. Candidates will be admitted only to University Departments of Anna University, Chennai.


TANCET 2017 Counselling

There will be different counselling process for each course. Counselling for Engineering, Technology and Architecture is carried out by a specific board known as Tamil Nadu Common Entrance (TANCA). Candidates need to register separately for Counselling.

MBA/MCA Counselling

The seats in various colleges for course of MBA/MCA will be filled on the basis of merit of the candidates. It will be conducted at Anna University. Candidates are required to carry all the important documents with them. In absence of which, there candidature is likely to be canceled. Some of the key guidelines are indicated below.

  • No traveling allowance will be paid to the candidates.
  • Candidates are required to pay Rs 53,00 (Rs 1,150 for SC/ST/SCA candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) for counselling. It includes non-refundable counselling fee of INR 300. Fee can be remitted either by cash or by DD in favor of “The Secretary, TANCA, Anna University payable at Chennai.

TANCA (M. Tech/M.E/M. Arch/M. Plan) Counselling

Admissions to various Engineering, Technology and Architecture courses are carried out by single window counselling through TANCA. Candidates need to INR 5,300/- which is inclusive of INR 300/- counselling fee. SC/SCA/ST category candidates from Tamil Nadu need to pay INR 1,150/-. The fee can be paid through Demand Draft or Cash. Demand draft should be drawn in favor of “The Secretary, TANCA, Anna University payable at Chennai.

Candidates must hold  Bachelor degree with minimum 50 % (45 % for SC/ST/SCA) and also have one of the following.

  1. TANCET 2017 Score
  2. GATE 2017 qualified valid Score in appropriate discipline of Engineering/Technology.
  3. GATE 2017 qualified valid score in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) along with TANCET 2017 score.


  1. Candidates admitted through lateral entry are not eligible except B. Tech, B.E, MCA lateral Entry.
  2. Candidates B. Tech/B.E though distance learning cannot appy for TANCA 2017.
  3. Candidates are required to register for TANCA 2017 at the official site of Anna University. Candidates need to pay Non-refundable Counselling fee of INR 500 (INR 250 for SC/ST/SCA).

TANCET 2017 Seat Allotment

The total number of seats available for admissions in MBA, MCA and engineering courses are expected to be around 18000, 17000 and 20,000 respectively, to be filled under government quota through a single window counselling. A total of 69 % percent seats are reserved for SC/ST/SCA candidates while the rest 31% will be open for open category students i.e candidates from other states.

TANCET 2017 Cutoff

Post the entrance test and result declarations, Anna University will release cut offs for each courses and subsequently students will be called for counselling process. The Cut off will depend upon various factors

Hi Prakash, generally the eligibility for admission in MBA is that the candidate should have 50% (Relaxations for reserved categories) in graduation. However, there are some of the colleges and universities which offer admissions for MBA on the basis of state/national level entrance exams such as CAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA and TANCET is one of them which is conducted by Anna University Chennai.
