SSC CGL 2017 PATTERN & SYLLABUS
NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
SSC CGL is an examination conducted for graduates to get a job in various Central Civil posts. So, candidates who are preparing for the examination should check the SSC CGL syllabus and its examination pattern.
The notification regarding SSC CGL 2017 examination is released every year and is conducted in 4 phases every year i.e. Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4 for recruitment of deserving candidates into different posts in central government. The examination is conducted in the month of August, September, November and December.
Tier 1 and Tier 2 are conducted only through online mode. On the other hand Tier 3 is a pen and paper based examination. Candidates need to clear all the four phases to get selected for the SSC CGL 2017 examination.

SSC CGL 2017 is a National level examination. SSC CGL examination is abbreviated as “Staff Selection Commission / Combined Graduate Level”. The examination is conducted in 4 phases in which Tier 1 is conducted in 2 shifts and Tier 2 examination is comprised of four papers.
Questions in Tier 1 examination is asked from the subjects like General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension.
On the other hand, questions in the Tier 2 examination is asked from the subject like Quantitative Ability, English Language and Comprehension, Statistics, and Finance and Economics.
SSC CGL 2017 examination is an objective type paper and conducted through online mode only. The paper will be divided into four sections. The paper is comprised of 100 questions of total 200 marks. Candidates are advised to attempt questions carefully because for every wrong answer 0.50 marks will be deducted.
The time duration to complete the examination is 75 minutes but time duration for visually handicapped (VH) and for candidates suffering from cerebral palsy has extended to 100 minutes. Tier 1 examination is conducted in 2 shifts.

Check SSC CGL 2017 Exam Dates
Tier 2 examination is an objective type paper and also conducted through online mode only. Tier 2 examination is comprised of 4 papers such as Quantitative Aptitude (Paper 1), English Language and Comprehension (Paper 2), Statistics (Paper 3) and General Studies (Paper 4).
Paper 1&2 is compulsory for all the posts and paper 3 is compulsory only for the post of “Statistical Investigator Gr. II” & “Compiler” and paper 4 is only for the post of “Assistant Audit Officer”. The time duration to complete each paper is 2 hours and each paper carries 200 marks.
For every wrong answer in Paper 1, 0.50 marks will be deducted and 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer in Paper2, Paper3 and Paper 4.
Paper 1 is based on the 10th class syllabus and Paper 2 is based on the 12th class syllabus. On the other hand Paper, 3 & 4 is conducted to test the aptitude of graduation level education.

Know About SSC CGL Tier-wise Preparation
The Tier 3 examination is a descriptive type examination and will be conducted through offline mode only. Candidates should write Essay or Precis or Letter or Application Writing etc. The time duration to complete the examination is 60 minutes which carries a total of 100 marks but time duration for visually handicapped (VH) and for candidates suffering from cerebral palsy has extended to 80 minutes.
Candidates who clear Tier 2 examination will be eligible for Tier 3 examination. To appear for tier 4 examination candidates need to secure 33% marks in SSC CGL examination.
Tier 4 is a last and final stage examination. It is also known as Data Entry Skill Test or Computer Proficiency Test. The candidates who have applied for the post of Assistant Section Officer need to appear for CPT.
The DEST examination requires pressing 2000 keys in an hour. Candidates belong to Orthopedically Handicapped are exempted from the examination but Visually Handicapped and Hearing Handicapped candidates are not exempted from DEST.
