SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria- Candidates willing to apply for SSC CGL must carefully go through the eligibility criteria of SSC CGL first. This will elaborate on details such as age, academic qualifications and number of attempts that are pre-requisites before applying for SSC CGL. Candidates must ensure they satisfy all the necessary conditions before initiating the application procedure. Here’s SSC CGL Eligibility 2017 in brief:

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2017

  • Candidate must either be an Indian citizen, Subject of Nepal/Bhutan, Tibetan refugee, Person of Indian origin from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma and other East African countries who has moved to India with the idea of settling down permanently. 
  • Candidate’s age must be between 18-32 years as on August 01, 2017. The lower and upper age limit for different posts is different. Only the date of birth as present in the 10th/12th certificate of candidates is considered.
  • There is an upper age limit relaxation for the various categories.
  • The basic educational qualification required is a Bachelor’s Degree in any stream from a recognized University or Institution.
  • Few of the posts require a candidate to have studied a particular subject pertaining to the posts.
  • There is no limit on the number of attempts, as long as candidates satisfy the required age eligibility criteria.

After thoroughly checking SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria, candidates can start filling SSC CGL Application Form at the official website i.e. ssc.nic.in from March 2017 onwards. Candidates must also upload requisite documents at the web portal and pay the application fee of INR 100 to register themselves.

SSC CGL 2017 will be conducted in the months of June 2017 (Tier I), September 2017 (Tier II) and November 2017 (Tier III), tentatively.


SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria- Nationality

SC CGL Eligibility Criteria as per Nationality mandates a candidate to be a resident of the prescribed states only.  Candidates belonging to these states will be eligible to apply for SSC CGL. An applicant must fulfill any one of the following conditions:

  • He must be an Indian Citizen
  • He must be a Subject of Nepal/Bhutan
  • He must be a Tibetan refugee who moved to India, before 1962, with the intention of settling down permanently in India.
  • He must be a Person of Indian Origin who has moved to India from Burma, Pakistan, Uganda, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia, Zaire and Vietnam with intention of settling down permanently in India.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria- Age Limit

  • Aspirants applying for SSC CGL must not be less than 18 years and cannot be more than 32 years of age (as on 1st August, 2017).
  • Lower and upper limit of age varies for each post.
  • Age of candidates as present in the 10th/12th certificates will be considered.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria- Age Relaxation

  • SSC offers a provision of age relaxation for candidates from all reserved categories. 
  • This relaxation varies as per your category.
  • Candidates must keep in mind the age relaxation criteria before filling the application form.
  • Relaxation of upper age limit for the various categories is shown in the table below.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria- Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for SSC CGL must check if they possess the requisite academic/educational qualifications for the post. The basic requirement is the undergraduate level bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institution.

Other academic qualifications corresponding to the different posts are given below.

Statistical Investigator Grade II

Basic Qualification: Any Bachelor’s Degree from recognized University or Institute with at least 60% in Mathematics at Higher Secondary (12th or equivalent) level OR Any Bachelor’s Degree from recognized University or Institute with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

Assistant Audit Officer

Basic Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute

Additional Qualification: Cost & Management Accountant / Chartered Accountant / Company Secretary /Masters in Commerce/Business Studies/Business Administration (Finance)/ Business Economics.

Compiler

Basic Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University or Institution. Additionally, candidates must have studied either Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or elective subject.

Assistant Section Officer (CSS)

Basic Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute

Additional Qualification: In addition to the basic Undergraduate Degree, candidates must also qualify in theComputer Proficiency Test.


SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria- Physical Fitness Requirements

Physical Standards for the Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive officer)

Standards for Physical Test

The candidates must also see the physical standard as per the Physical Test is considered:

Physical Standards for Sub-Inspector in CBI

The candidates should check the required physical standards for SI in CBI as per the SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2017:

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria- Important Documents

Candidates must carry the originals and two sets of photocopies of the following documents at the time of document verification.

  1. Original ID proof
  2. Matriculation/High School)/High Secondary School/ Equivalent certificate (as Date of Birth proof)
  3. Undergraduate Degree Certificate
  4. Semester wise marks memo as proof for having obtained the minimum educational qualification on or before 1st August 2018.
  5. Caste Certificate in prescribed format (if applicable)
  6. OH/HH/VH certificate in prescribed format (if applicable)
  7. Candidates who were Ex-servicemen must have been discharged on or before the date mentioned in the Notice of Examination.
  8. A duly filled Post Preference Option form
  9. Six Passport size photographs

Note: In case the proof of passing (Final Mark Sheet) is not available yet, candidates must produce a valid certificate issued by the competent authority of the University, stating that the qualifying degree examination results were declared on/before the date mentioned in the official notification. 


SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria FAQs

Ques. I am applying through reserved category and I dont have my caste certificate. Can I still apply?

Ans. No, you can only apply if you upload your caste certificate. It should be submitted in the prescribed format only.

Ques. How many times can I appear for SSC CGL?

Ans. There is no limit on the number of attempts in SSC CGL Exam. But, it is mandatary to fulfill the basic SSC CGL eligibility criteria.

Ques. I have completed my class XII this year. Can I still apply for SSC CGL?

Ans. No, possession of a Bachelors degree in any stream is mandatary to apply for the exam.

Ques. I hold a Bachelors degree in English (Hons.). Can I apply for Comiler post?

Ans. No, you must have studied either Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or elective subject in your graduation.

Ques. I completed my graduation from MDU. Can I apply for SSC CGL?

Ans. Yes, you can. A Bechors degree from any recognized institute is acceptable.
