SNAP 2016 SELECTION PROCESS
NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
SNAP 2016 Selection process comprises two stages: SNAP Test and GE-PIWAT consisting of Group Exercise (GE), Personal Interaction (PI), and Writing Aptitude Test (WAT). It is mandatory for the shortlisted Aspirants to appear for the all the tests of GE, PI & WAT.
SNAP Test is conducted by Symbiosis National University for admission to MBA/PGDM programs offered. The last date to apply for the SNAP Test is November 22, 2016. Along with registration for SNAP Test, Aspirants also have to register to the participating colleges for GE/PIWAT process. The exam is set to be held on December 18, 2016.
After successful conduct of SNAP Test, qualified aspirants are called for GE round. It’s a process to screen the aspirants on the basis of their potential as well as their skills. In this round, aspirants are given a topic to discuss among themselves for 15-20 minutes. Committee checks for leadership qualities such as confidence, content and delivery.
Group Exercises are used as an assessment round. Aspirants are tested upon their communication skills, tactfulness, problem-solving abilities, and ability to stay focused and get the task done in allotted time.
The Aspirants are divided into groups and each group is given two case studies. The candidates get five minutes to go through the case study and 15 minutes to discuss and reach a consensus. On the basis of GE, Aspirants are allowed to attend PI round.
The process begins by dividing aspirants into groups of 7-8 people and assigning each group to a group coordinator. following that, aspirants are shown a video clip for our first GE exercise. Discussion is allowed on this topic for seven minutes (Allotted time). After that there is a break for two minutes and then second GD is started.
The purpose of conducting a personal interview is to explore the responses of the Aspirant, his/her interpersonal, soft skills, confidence and thought clarity.
Annexure and the other forms are provided to the Aspirants. Interviewer may ask questions based on details you filled in Annexure, and other information based on candidates’ academic qualifications.
SNAP PI Experience of one the SNAP 2015 aspirant “There were two interviewers. I had mentioned my father as my role model so the first question was related to that. They asked me how does he inspire me? I told them about his influence in my personal life as well as my professional life and how he motivates me to work harder towards my goals. Then they asked some questions about my family. Then hobbies, I told them about my inclination towards art and craft and towards designing apparels and accessories. “You are an artist, why don’t you join NIFT or NID?” I told them about the courses offered at designing institutes and about the courses offered at SIBM and how the latter are more relevant to my career goals than the former. And I was able to convince them. They posed the question that: “Did your father do an MBA?” I told them no. So they asked me if he could do it without an MBA, why are you wasting two years, go and start your venture straightaway”. to which I told them some of my father’s experiences and told them how studying in SIBM will help me in doing business in a better way.”
Written Ability Test is a pen and paper Writing Ability Test. It tests aspirant’s writing skills clubbed with consistency & clarity. It is, in fact, more or less, an essay writing test. WAT has been designed to basically test aspirants’ knowledge and richness of content. This section tests the language and writing ability of the Aspirant along with logical thinking and opinion regarding a particular subject.
In WAT, Aspirant’s knowledge on the given topic along with the writing style is tested. All aspirants have to write a short essay on a particular topic or case study given to them within 25 minutes. WAT tests the ability of Time Management and Idea’s management along with the writing skills and consistency of aspirants
Prakriti Sharma, who secured admission to IIM Kozhikode, shared her experience. She says, “My topic for WAT was ‘all government without the consent of the governed is the very definition of slavery’. I wrote about the importance of democracy and talked about the 13th amendment brought by Lincoln. I talked of the Indian context as well and tried to touch upon as many different angles as possible.”
Jayesh Ruchandani , who secured admission to IIM Kashipur says that time allotted to him for WAT was 25 minutes out of which he spent around 13 minutes towards thinking and structuring the points and utilized remaining time in writing the essay. He also said that he was able to complete his WAT in around 20 minutes.
The final merit list will be prepared by SIU on the basis of marks scored in SNAP 2016 Test and GE/PIWAT process. SNAP Test is of 150 marks which is scaled down to 50 marks for SNAP 2016 Selection Process. Group Exercise, Personal Interaction and Writing Ability Test is of 10, 30 and 10 marks respectively.
