PU CET 2017 PATTERN & SYLLABUS
STATE LEVEL ONLINE TEST
The Punjab University Common Entrance Test for admission into various undergraduate courses for the year 2017 is scheduled in first week of June, 2017. The PU CET, based on their merit, provides eligibility for the candidates appearing to choose from various streams of U.G. courses. The exam provides the appearing candidates with a choice of choosing a suitable combination of subjects out of all the 6 subjects offered. The candidates can select a suitable combination.
The syllabus for the subjects is as per the CBSE syllabus. Hence, the candidates are advised to prepare for the examination by thoroughly going through their study materials they come across in their academic timeline and also while exclusively preparing for PU CET examination. The evaluation scheme involves negative marking, hence candidates are advised to answer only the questions they are completely sure of.
The time allotted for every paper is 70 minutes. Depending upon the combination of subjects chosen and number of subjects the candidate is appearing the total time of examination can vary from one candidate to another.
The PU CET 2017 test paper will have multiple choice questions. Each question carries equal marks i.e. 2 marks. The evaluation pattern involves negative marking. Every wrong answer will result in 25% deduction from the question answered. Every right answer has the weightage of 2 marks therefore for a wrong answer 0.5 marks will be deducted from the total marks of that paper.
The time provided to attempt each section is 70 minutes. The candidates are provided with 5 different combinations of subjects. 4 combinations have 3 subjects included in them where as the 5th combination has only one subject(Mathematics).
The papers of 3 subject combination are of 210 minutes each, whereas the Mathematics being the 5th combination, is of 70 minutes duration. 30 minutes extra time is given for visually handicapped/physically handicapped candidates.
If a candidate is appearing in 4 subjects the total time duration of his examination will be of 280 minutes. Detailed time table is given below for every paper.

Solving previous year question papers will enhance one’s ability to understand the concept of the different type of question papers and answer them from skill, application or problem solving perspective. Also, previous year question papers will give a rough idea of the weightage of the questions from different units or chapters of the syllabi. The more number of questions one solves, the more it enables him/her to tackle any new question with a certain ease.
