NMAT 2018 Exam Pattern

NMAT by GMAC is a national level entrance examination. GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) is the governing body for the exam. It is popularly known as NMIMS Management Aptitude Test. NMAT is conducted for admission into PG management programs offered by NMIMS and other institutes accepting NMAT score. The NMAT 2018 exam pattern is similar to the previous year exam pattern for NMAT.

The NMAT 2018 exam pattern involves 3 sections. The 3 sections are as follows

  • Language skills
  • Quantitative skills
  • Logical Skills

The total duration of the NMAT 2018 exam is 2 hours. The total number of questions in the NMAT 2018 exam is 120. The total time given is divided equally among the 3 sections. Candidates will be given 20 additional minutes before the NMAT exam. These 20 minutes time are required to do some formalities that are essential for the test takers.

NMAT 2018 exam has no provision for negative marking. The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the performance in the NMAT exam. The candidate can obtain more details about the NMAT entrance examination from the official website- www.nmat.org.in.

Exam Pattern For NMAT 2018

The candidates are advised to attempt all the questions in the given section in one go. The candidate has to finish the questions in a given section within the given time frame. The time allotted to each section is limited to as mentioned:

  • Candidates can choose the order of sections for attempting in NMAT .
  • If a candidate has completed all the questions of a given section before the allotted time, then he can move to the next section. However, the time left will not be transferred to the next section. 
  • It is advised that in case the time is left for a particular section, revise the answers marked and then move to the next section. The marks will be calculated for each section separately. Total marks will include marks obtained by the candidate overall in NMAT by GMAC  entrance exam.
  1. NMAT 2018 Exam Topics: GMAC, the examination body has not given any clear details about the exam topics. However, it is a general exam based on MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) will come. There will be a total of 120 questions that an applicant has to complete in the time frame of 2 hours.
  2. Language Skills Section in NMAT 2018: In chronology, it will come first in the series. There will be 32 questions and the applicant has to complete it in a duration of 22 minutes. This section is designed to test the language skills of the applicant and questions such as sentence formation, re- arrangement of words will appear in the exam. Questions to test the vocabulary are sure to come in the NMAT 2018 exam. A few questions in the section may come to test the understanding of synonyms and antonyms. The comprehension questions will come and test the ability to comprehend the meaning from a given passage. Questions about the language usage and their rules are also expected to appear in the exam. Testing the understanding of basic grammar is also part of the exam.
  3. Quantitative Skills Section in NMAT 2018: The quantitative section is a very broad topic in NMAT 2018 entrance. There will be 12 questions from Verbal reasoning and 28 questions from logical reasoning. The section includes questions on DI (Data Interpretation) and DS (Data Sufficiency). The section involves testing of the basic mathematical ability. The questions can come from Algebra, Trigonometry, Arithmetic, 2D & 3D geometry, Statistics, etc. Essentially questions will be asked from the mathematics syllabus up to 10th Standard.
  4. Logical Skills section NMAT 2018: The logical reasoning section is designed to test the understanding of patterns in the given data. Questions will be asked to test the understanding of code in the given set. Common questions to understand the series and family trees are sure to appear. Puzzles, to puzzle the candidate are also sure to come. Questions to test the visualization power of the applicant are also expected in the NMAT 2018 exam.

The overall understanding of the NMAT exam topics is compulsory as NMAT exam paper has some difficult topics in the English and Quantitative section. Some questions will be same for all the candidates but the order of appearance may change as it is an ONLINE exam.


Marking Scheme In NMAT 2018

There will be NO negative marking in the NMAT 2018 exam. 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer in NMAT 2018 exam. There is no change in the marking scheme of NMAT 2018 exam as compared to the previous year.

Retest of NMAT 2018 Exam 

If an applicant is not satisfied with the scores he received, he can reappear for the exam. In case, an applicant has to reappear for the exam, the applicant will have to go through NMAT  application process all over again. The registration can be done through the official website-www.nmat.org.in and NMIMS (Deemed to-be-University) website. An applicant must go through both the websites and log in with the allotted username and password.

For Registration process, application fee has to be paid again. The overall process of registration remains the same.

Post NMAT 2018 Exam

NMAT 2018 exam paper requires an applicant to perform well in each of the given section and overall exam. This is important as during the NMAT 2018 admission or NMAT  selection process, the overall performance of the candidate is considered. So, to get the desired seat, a tough competition has to be won.

The NMAT  entrance examination requires an applicant to clear the two- stage selection process. Stage 1 involves the applicant to clear the NMAT 2018 exam and stage 2 involves an applicant to clear the PI (Personal Interview) & CD (Case Discussion).

An applicant who has cleared the NMAT 2018 exam has to go through the following steps to get enrolled in a college:

  1. The admission to any course offered by NMAT 2018, an applicant must have a valid NMAT score card. The scores will be given by GMAC to NMIMS and other institutes accepting the NMAT 2018 Scores.
  2. Case discussion (CD) and PI (Personal Interview) is the stage 2. Only shortlisted applicants will be called for this level.
  3. Candidates overall academic performance will be the final selection criteria. This step will also take into consideration the experience that a candidate holds in the required field. Additional weight and preference are given to the candidate with relevant work experience.

NMAT  admission process involves an applicant to go through a triple filter to get the admission. Only clearing the NMAT  exam does not entitle an applicant to get a seat in the college.
