NIFT (NIFT ENTRANCE EXAM) 2017 RESERVATION

NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST

NIFT 2017 Reservation

NIFT 2017 will be conducted by National Institute of Fashion Technology on February 12, 2017. Through this exam, admissions to various UG and PG programmes in fashion and technology is provided. Candidates belonging to reserved categories can seek relaxation under NIFT 2017 Reservation Criteria.

NIFT 2017 Application Process ended on January 10, 2017. As per the NIFT 2017 Reservation Policy, provision for reservation is provided to socially backward castes and physically disabled persons. The maximum age limit for candidates applying for Bachelor programmes is 23 years, relaxed by 5 years for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Differently Abled Persons (PHP) under each programme.


NIFT 2017 Seats Reservation

Seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC-NCL and Differently Abled Candidates (PHP)/ Foreign Nationals/ SAARC/ NRI under each programme as per the Reservation Criteria. The allocation of seats to reserved categories under different programmes is mentioned below:

Note:Candidates are not allowed to change or alter the reservation category once filled in the NIFT 2017 Application Form, at any stage. Candidates will be admitted only if they fulfil the eligibility criteria laid down by NIFT.


Reserved Categories in NIFT 2017

For SC/ST Candidates

There is 15% seat reservation for SC candidates and 7.5% seat reservation for ST candidates in all programmes offered by National Institute of Fashion Technology. Candidates seeking seats under these reserved categories are required to produce a Caste/Tribe certificate issued by the Competent Authority of their respective States/Union Territories/National Commission of Tribes at the time of counselling.

For OBC (Non-Creamy) Candidates

There is a seat reservation of 27% in all courses offered by NIFT for candidates belonging to OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Category.

  • Candidates applying under OBC category have to produce relevant caste certificate duly certified by the Competent Authority during Counselling process. The caste certificate should clearly state that candidates belong to the Non-Creamy layer, and also the issuing date of the certificate should not be more than 1 year old.
  • The caste stated in the certificate should be mentioned in the Central List of OBCs that is provided on the official website.
  • Married women candidates applying under the reserved category have to provide the certificate in their own names. Certificates issued in the names of husband/mother/father will not be accepted for admission purposes.

No provisional admissions will be made under any circumstance. Also, the following points should be considered in this regard:

  • The OBC certificate should be in the name of the candidate only and not in the name of his/her parents/guardians.
  • The caste that is stated in the certificate should be there in the Central List of OBCs that is provided on the official website
  • The OBC certificate must clearly mention that the candidate belongs to the non-creamy layer and also, it should not be more than a year old.
  • The certificate should be issued by the Competent Authority only.
  • Married women candidates applying to any course under the reserved category should produce the certificate in their own names. Certificates in the names of husband/mother/father will be unacceptable.

For Differently Abled Candidates (PHP)

There is 3% horizontal reservation of seats for candidates belonging to PHP Category under each programme in NIFT 2017. Candidates should adhere to the following guidelines for seeking admission under PHP category:

  • Candidates with only 40% or more physical disability will be considered for admission under this category as per the NIFT Reservation norms.
  • Physically Handicapped Candidates are required to compulsorily attach a copy of Disability Certificate issued in Form-II, Form-III or Form-IV by a Medical Authority. Also, this certificate should be produced both at the time of Counselling and Admission of the candidate.
  • If the PHP candidates need external assistance during assessments, NIFT may consider such applications only on the condition that the expenses will be fully borne by the candidate. It is however, recommended that the candidate arranges his/her own external assistant for their own personal convenience.

Further, NIFT will assess the physical and psychological capability of a candidate who is selected for the counselling process of a particular programme/course, as per the individual requirements of that particular programme/course by a Board constituted for each campus by the Campus Director.

  • There will be 3 members in the Board consisting of a Medical officer/Psychologist, a Faculty from the concerned department (Design/Technology/Management) and an Administrative Officer.
  • Candidates are required to come well prepared for the counselling programme. NIFT can make use of its laboratories, test materials or equipment for making such assessments of a candidate to test their ability of undertaking a particular programme/course. Also, such tests may be tailor-made for the individual candidates separately as per the discretion of the Board.

The assessment is mandatory for all candidates who are seeking reservation under this particular category.

After the assessment, theBoard will decide and recommend whether the candidate is suitable for undertaking the particular programme he/ she applied for. A copy of such order will be communicated to the candidate as well in writing as acknowledgement, so that if he/she wants to appeal against such order, the appeal can further be made to another Standing Board at Head Office. The recommendation or decision of such Standing Board will be final and no further proceeding can be made regarding this. In case a candidate is considered unfit for a programme/course, the NIFT reserves all rights to disqualify the candidature of such candidate.

NIFT 2017 Foreign Nationals Reservation

Fifteen percent (15%) Supernumerary seats of total seats in each programme at NIFT Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar and Raebareli are reserved for Foreign Nationals. Hence, 5 seats in each programme are reserved for giving admission to Foreign Nationals (whether residing in India or Abroad) and NRI, who are citizens of India and hold an Indian passport and have temporarily immigrated to another country for the past 6 months or more for work, residence or any other purpose.

The admission to NIFT programmes for Foreign Nationals/NRI Candidates would be conducted on the basis of following examinations:

Candidates will be allotted the NIFT Campus / Programme on the basis of scores secured by them as per the merit list. Candidates may appear in as many SAT 1/GMAT/GRE examinations prior to April 30, 2017. The candidates applying under this category are required to apply on the official website for online admission. The last date of receiving applications under this category is April 30, 2017.

All candidates are required to fulfil the requisite academic qualifications criteria. In case of Foreign University certificates/degrees, an equivalent certificate needs to be obtained from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi prior to admission. An NRI vacant seat will NOT be converted into any other category and will hence, lapse.

Special NRI Test

Candidates having Common Merit Rank (CMR) who fall under the category “CHILDREN/WARDS of NRI” would be offered an opportunity to choose an NRI seat, subject to submission of the requisite documents and fees during the counselling procedure. If the NRI seats still remain vacant, these seats will be filled through a Special NRI Test.

Candidates who are having CMR and were not shortlisted for Situation Test/GD & PI along with fresh/new aspirants would be given an opportunity to get admission, subject to fulfilment of certain conditions such as academic and documentation requirements. The Test/Interview will be conducted at New Delhi center.

All the applicants need to mandatorily register themselves. However, the candidates having CMR do NOT have to appear for this test. Also, the candidates who could not be selected for Situation Test and GD & PI will only have to appear for the Interview.

However, fresh candidates will have to appear for both the Written Test as well as Interview. While making the merit list the candidates having CMR, will be given priority as per their respective CMRs. Candidates having appeared only for the Interview will fall second in the list of priority and fresh/new candidates will come thereafter. A final consolidated merit list will be prepared based on the aforementioned parameters. Seats will be filled strictly as per the merit only.


State  Domicile Preferential Seats

The state domicile of the candidate is same where he/she has completed the Class 12th/graduation/qualifying degree. 6 supernumerary seats i.e. 20% seats in addition to the 30 seats are to be given to the candidates who belong to the States where the following NIFT campuses are located:

A certificate from the school/college can be obtained in this regard. In case, of Distance Learning candidates, the domicile status will be decided by the State of the regular school which he/she attended.

Candidates have a choice to take admission under General/SC/ST/OBC category as per merit to any course/campus of their choice irrespective of their State of domicile. Reserved category candidates will also be applicable for the domicile seats. The vacant Domicile seats shall be offered to the children/wards of NRIs as per merit during the counselling procedure. This can be done only in case of non-availability of candidates under that category
