NID 2017 Seat Intake Capacity

National Institute of Design (NID) conducts the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) every year for admissions to Bachelor of Design (B. Des.), Master of Design (M. Des.) and the Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD) courses in various campuses of NID across India. NID entrance exam (DAT 2017) is to be held on 08 January, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for admission to B. Des. And M. Des. Programs.

However, candidates complete the NID Registration process from October 12 to November 27, 2016. The candidates whose application is accepted by the NID authority are likely to receive the NID 2017 Admit Card from December 24, 2016. NID   results will be declared on February 10, 2017.

The DAT 2017 exam is conducted offline across various cities of India. The question paper is based on both the objective and subjective type questions. Total 100 questions will be asked in the paper which is to be completed in the duration of 3 hours. The candidates qualifying the DAT 2017 test shall be called for subsequent modes of selection - Studio Test and Personal Interview.


NID 2017 Seat Intake capacity

NID campuses are dispersed across various cities of India. Bachelor’s degree is offered in only one campus (Ahmadabad) whereas Masters program is offered in all the three campuses of NID. The Seat Intake capacity for Masters and Bachelors degree courses are given below:

NID 2017 Eligibility

Candidates are strictly directed to check the NID Eligibility criteria before applying for DAT 2017. Application forms of the candidate fulfilling the basic NID eligibility criteria will be accepted only. Given below are the eligibility criteria for Bachelor of Design (B. Des.) and Master of Design (M. Des.) programs:

Eligibility criteria for Bachelor of Design

Age Restriction

  • The candidates belonging to the General category should not exceed 20 years of age for admission to for the Bachelor Programme as on July 1, 2016.
  • There is a relaxation of three years in the upper age limit for candidates belonging to reserved category.
  • The Indian candidates who apply in the general category and the candidates who apply in overseas category must be born after 30 June 1997.
  • Candidates belonging to the reserved category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD) born on or before 30 June 1994 are not eligible for admission.

Academic Qualification

  • Candidate who has passed/is going to appear in 12th class examination from any recognized Board of school education such as AISSE/NCERT/ICSE/CBSE on the beginning of the academic session of 2015-16.
  • The candidates having hold of equivalent qualifying degree are also eligible. The equivalent qualifying examination are enlisted:
  1. The final exam of 10+2 system conducted by a State Board or a Central Board recognized by the AIU (Association of Indian Universities).
  2. The Final Exam of Joint Services Wing of the NDA (National Defence Academy).
  3. The Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by National School of Open Learning with a minimum of five subjects.
  4. Any Board/ Public School/ University examination conducted in India or in any foreign country and recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 level by the AIU (Association of Indian Universities).
  5. Higher Secondary. Vocational Qualification
  6. General examination Certificate from Cambridge, Sri Lanka or London at the Advanced Level.
  7. High School Examination l Certificate of the Cambridge University
  8. The International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
  9. Candidates who have completed 12th standard   from any other country whose board is not recognized by the Indian Board can produce a certificate to the Association of Indian University as a proof that they have qualified their 12th class examination.

Eligibility criteria for Master of Design

Age Restriction

  • The candidates belonging to the General category should not exceed 30 years of age for admission to for the Master’s Programme as on July 1, 2016.
  • There is a relaxation of three years in the upper age limit for candidates belonging to reserved category.
  • The Indian candidates who apply in the general category and the candidates who apply in overseas category must be born after July 1, 1986.
  • Candidates belonging to the reserved category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD) born on or before July 1, 1983 are not eligible for admission.

Academic Qualification

  • Candidate should have hold of Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under the 10+2+3/ 10+2+4 /10+2+5 system, from any   recognized university or institute recognised by the GOI.
  • Candidates with the Diploma in design under the 10+2+4 system, from any recognized university or institute recognised by the GOI law are also eligible.
  • Candidates whose result is awaited are also eligible to apply for admission .However; such candidates have to submit the proof of the qualifying degree before July 6, 2016.
  • In case the candidate has obtained the degree/certificate from a university/board of a foreign country, an equivalence certificate has been obtained by the candidate from the AIU, New Delhi, before the admission process.
