National Institute of Fashion Technology has scheduled NIFT 2018 in 2nd week of February 2018. The exam is conducted for the candidates seeking admission in various design courses. NIFT is held in an offline mode i.e. it is pen paper based exam.

The application process for NIFT 2018 is expected to begin from the 1st week of November 2018. Interested candidates can fill the form via online mode only. They need to visit the official website of NIFT-nift.ac.in. The application fee for general category is INR 1500 and for SC/ ST Category is INR 750.

NIFT 2018 Eligibility

NIFT 2018 eligibility is different for UG and PG courses. Candidates willing to apply for NIFT exam must fulfill the eligibility standards set by the conducting body, NIFT. The eligibility criterion for different courses is given below:

General Eligibility points for UG Courses
The candidates from general category should not be more than 23 years of age as on October 1, 2016.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST/Differently abled Person (PHP) category will be given 5 years’ relaxation.

  • Candidates who have successfully cleared 3- 4 Year diploma which is recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education are also eligible to apply for NIFT 2017.
  • For the candidates applying for Apparel Production, having Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 12th standard is important.

NIFT 2018 PG Programs Eligibility

The eligibility for NIFT 2018, for postgraduate programmes is as follows:

Master of Design (M.Des.)

The candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university/institute or a diploma of minimum 3 years in undergraduate design program from National Institute of Technology (NIFT).

This course comes under the program – Design Space

Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M)

The candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university/institute or a diploma of minimum 3 years in undergraduate design program from National Institute of Technology (NIFT).

Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech.)

The candidate must have a degree in B.F.Tech. from NIFT or a degree in Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) or B.Tech. from a recognized university.

General Eligibility points for PG Programs

  • There is no age limit for PG programs in NIFT.
  • Those who have cleared NIFT are also eligible to apply for Pg programs.

NIFT Application Form 2018

NIFT 2018 Registration for UG and PG programs will begin in the 1st week of November 2018. Mode of application is online. The application form will be available on the official site of NIFT. Follow the steps mentioned below to register for the exam:

Step 1: Visit NIFT official website- - nift.ac.in

Step 2: Click on the link “Apply now” and make a login Id.

Step 3: Fill the application form and upload scanned signature and photograph.

Step 4: Pay the application fee as per the category. (General/ OBC category- INR 1500 and SC/ ST category- INR 750).

Step 5: In case of late registration the application fee is INR 5000.


NIFT 2018 Admit Card

NIFT 2018 Admit card can be downloaded from the official website of NIFT 2018. NIFT Admit Card is mandatory to be carried to the exam center. Candidates can follow the steps mentioned below to download the admit card:

Step 1: Visit the official website of NIFT

Step 2: Click on NIFT Admit Card link

Step 3: Enter your application no., DOB (date of birth) and email id

Step 4: Download and take out the print out of NIFT 2018 Admit Card.


NIFT 2018 Exam Pattern

The NIFT Entrance Exam is conducted for evaluating a candidate on different parameters like aptitude, skills and knowledge about the field. For this, the NIFT exam is usually divided into four sections which are:

  • Creative ability test (CAT)
  • General ability test (GAT)
  • Situation test
  • Group discussion/ Personal Interview

NIFT Exams- CAT and GAT are conducted in an offline mode (pen-paper based). The questions are to be answered in English. GAT exam for B.Des. and M.Des. is of 2 hours (120 minutes) and for B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech and M.F.M, the exam is for 3 hours (180 minutes).  

What is CAT in NIFT?                                                                                 

CAT (Creative Ability Test) is held to test a candidate’s skills in sketching, adeptness in use of colors and inventiveness. Also, the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability is examined.

Time Duration: 03 hours (180 minutes)

Maximum Mark: 100 marks

Note: Candidate is required to attempt all the questions. Also, water colors cannot be used in the exam. 

What is GAT in NIFT?

GAT (General Ability Test) exam is held to check a candidate’s general skills and knowledge in subjects- Quantitative ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability and General Knowledge & Current Affairs. 

Time Duration: 02 hours (120 minutes)

Maximum Marks: 100 marks 

Candidates qualifying the written examination will then appear for NIFT Situation Test, Group Discussions and Personal Interview as per the requirement of the course.

What is Situation Test in NIFT?

This exam is designed to evaluate and test a candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability as per the given situation with the material provided.

Time Duration: 03 hours (180 minutes)

Maximum Marks: 100 marks


NIFT 2018 Results

NIFT 2018 Results will be announced in May/June 2018 on the official website of National Institute of Fashion Technology. The steps to check the results are as follows:

Step 1: Go to the official website of NIFT- nift.ac.in.

Step 2: Click on the Result Link.

Step 3: Enter NIFT Roll no., date of birth and application no.

Step 4: Verify all the details mentioned on the result page.

Step 5: Download the result and take the printout.


NIFT 2018 Cutoff

The institutes which participate in NIFT, release cutoff marks according to which the candidates are called for further rounds of selection and counseling. NIFT 2018 Cutoff is the minimum marks or percentile a candidate must have scored in the NIFT exam to get admission to fashion and design courses in their desired institute. After the announcement of NIFT 2018 Results, qualified candidates have to appear for further levels. They will have to go through the NIFT Situation Test and GDPI for final selection. 


NIFT 2018 Selection Process

NIFT 2018 Selection Process includes written test, situation test and interview. Candidates clearing the NIFT 2018 exam are called for the further rounds of selection. Candidates will need to appear for PI/GD round for admission to M.Des., MFM and M.F.Tech. The weightage of the exam for different courses is as follows:

NIFT Counselling 2018

 NIFT Counseling 2018 will be conducted in June 2018. Online registration needs to be done to participate in the counseling process. Candidate needs to provide their login credentials which are application no., date of birth and password to register. There is no fee for the first round of counselling, but the fee of the subsequent rounds is INR 5000. The candidates need to select the NIFT campus for counselling. Candidates will receive a System generated letter in which candidates will be informed about the documents to be carried at the counseling session of NIFT 2018.


NIFT Reservation Criteria 2018

National Institute of Fashion Technology has some seats reserved for the SC/ST, OBC- NCL and Differently abled persons (PHP). Supernumerary seats are also reserved for candidates applying under Foreign Nationals/SAARC/NRI and State Domicile category.
