KEAM 2017 Preparation tips - Syllabus & Question papers

KEAM is conducted every year in the state of Kerala for admission to various Medical, Engineering and Architecture courses. Candidates aspiring to pursue and qualify KEAM 2017 must start the KEAM Preparations with a proper strategy.

Candidate should have clear concepts of the topics studied at 10+2 level. They should cover the entire KEAM Syllabus and have extensive knowledge of KEAM Exam pattern. In addition to this, the aspirants should go through the previous years,KEAM Question Papers and solve them.

KEAM Syllabus

The questions asked in the KEAM Question Paper are strictly as per the KEAM Syllabus declared by CEE Kerala. The syllabus for KEAM 2017 is based on 10+2 level syllabus. Candidates appearing for medical test have to choose PCB whereas for engineering test candidates need to choose PCM.

KEAM Preparation tips

A large number of aspirants apply for KEAM entrance every year but only few are able to qualify the same. Candidates who want to beat the exam blues and score well in the examinations must follow the Syllabus for KEAM 2017 properly. There are total four subjects included in the KEAM Examination .Candidate can choose the three subjects as per their stream at 10+2 level. The four subjects are given below:

  1. Physics
  2. Chemistry
  3. Biology
  4. Mathematics

For effective preparation candidates are advised to consider the following expert preparation tips:

  1. Time management and proper scheduling: The most important thing in the preparation of KEAM 2017 is setting of a proper schedule. This gives a fair idea of what to study and the time required for the same.  Candidate should maintain a devoted and dedicated study of 6 to 8 hours per day .Experts suggest that a break of minimum 15 to maximum 20 minutes should be taken hourly. This helps in the proper concentration.
  2. Solve the previous years’ KEAM Entrance papers:  Candidates are suggested to go through the previous years’ KEAM entrance exams. Solving of such papers helps the candidate in the knowing his/ her weak areas and gives a fair idea to the candidate regarding the paper pattern and all important concepts that are asked in the KEAM examination.  
  3. Seek Expert Guidance/ Join a good Coaching Institute: Most of the candidate take some coaching for the preparation of the Entrance Examination. Candidates should take a good and reliable coaching for medical/engineering entrance examination from a reputed Institute with the qualified and experienced faculty members.
  4. Clear the basic concepts: The clear concepts are the key to crack the KEAM 2017. Candidates should never switch to cramming without understanding the basic concepts. If any concept is not clear, different sources should be consulted till that concept is clear.
  5. Make notes: Most of the experts suggest making of notes useful. The notes help in sorting out the important concepts and formulae .The concentration and the clarity in study increases. Besides all this the notes are useful for quick and crisp revision before the test as it’s cumbersome and inconvenient to revise the vast syllabus from the books.
  6. Self study: Candidate has to do the self study in any case. Even if the candidate joins a coaching centre to speed up the preparation process, he/ she should only take the guidance from the coaching centres and not follow them blindly.
  7. Consult the recommended study material:  Candidate can use the NCERT text books to build up the basic concepts. Candidate can choose the NCERT book as the main book for study and for the topics which are not understood from this book should be looked in other reference books.
  8. Appear in the mock tests: Candidates can appear in the online /offline mock test series and know about their preparation status. Solving the mock test series ensures time-management in the exam and helps in the confidence boosting to crack the exam.

KEAM Question papers

Candidates should go through the previous year question papers of KEAM exam. Candidates are advised to consult the question papers of the last past 10 years and note the topics and subjects of more and less importance as per the analysis of these papers. Focus on the important topics and subjects for effective results. As per the analysis of these papers, candidate can easily neglect the topics and subjects of less importance. This will save time and ease the preparation pressure as well. Candidates can buy a book that contains the previous year’s solved KEAM question papers or can download the same from the internet. KEAM Exam pattern

KEAM 2017 exam is a paper and pen based test scheduled tentatively from April 25, 2017 to April 28, 2017. The question paper is based on the MCQ – Multiple Choice Question format. The exam will be conducted in two parts- paper I and Paper II. Total 120 questions will be asked from each paper. Paper I is common for both the engineering and medical admission aspirants whereas there is a choice of subjects in the paper II. Candidate must choose the subject in the paper II as per his/her branch at 10+2 level. The time duration to complete each paper is 2.5 hours i.e. 150 minutes.
Each correctly answered question has the weight age of 4 marks and 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong response. There will be no deduction for the UN attempted question. The table below explains the exam pattern of the KEAM

In order to qualify KEAM 2017, candidate needs obtain a minimum score of 10 marks in each paper. The candidate can score up to 480 marks in the paper. Only he candidates who score the said minimum marks will get their name published in the merit list.
