MH CET 2017 News: Changes in Admission for 3 Major Courses

Last Updated - April 11, 2017

MH CET 2017 is scheduled in May 2017 for admission to various undergraduate courses such as Engineering, Health Science, Law and Management Courses. Under MH CET, 4 other entrance exams are held. MHT CET is held for Engineering, Pharmacy and allied Health Science courses, MAH CET is conducted for MBA, MAH MCA CET for MCA and MH CET Law is held for admission in law programmes.

MH CET 2017 application process will commence from March 2017. The state CET CELL of Maharashtra has several plans to change the existing formats for various admission criteria and exams.

NEXT: New Test for MBBS Graduates

The Centre has proposed a new qualifying test called NEXT (National Exit Test) for MBBS graduates. If NEXT is brought into effect, then it will replace the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for postgraduate medical admissions and recruitment for Central Health Services and Foreign Medical Graduate Examination.

On the condition of anonymity, a parent said, “Students are going to suffer again as the government is making changes without getting the backend work done. A similar thing happened during the NEET drama.”

JEE Main: New Admission Criteria for Engineering Graduates

Students seeking admission via 15% all-India quota seats to Engineering Colleges of Maharashtra won’t have to appear for MH CET. Candidates who have appeared for the national-level JEE Main will get preference over MH CET students, unlike in the previous years. The Centre is also planning to introduce a common exam (JEE) for admissions to both private and government colleges.

According to Subhash Joshi, a trustee of the Science Parivar said, “students are left confused after the sudden decisions of government. When NEET was introduced, students suffered due to poor planning and coordination between different government bodies. If JEE is to be implemented as a common exam, students should get at least 2 years to prepare for the new exam.”

B.Arch: Class XII Marks Not Required

CoA (Council of Architecture) has introduced fresh guidelines for admissions to UG courses across the Maharashtra state. Earlier, NATA (National Aptitude test in Architecture) said that class XII results were necessary under the admission criteria and results were given 50% weightage.

Dayanand Meshram, Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), has said, “Till last year, we were admitting students on the basis of 50-50 formula. If the CoA has prescribed any changes, we will implement them only after the state notifies us about them.”

S. B. Rege, Executive Director of Silica, a coaching institute for design courses said, “Institutes like NID and NIFT do not consider an individual’s HSC marks for admission.”
