GATE Agriculture Engineering

GATE is an all India level entrance exam for students who seek admission to M.Tech and PhD courses. This exam is conducted by IISc Bangalore and 7 IITs on rotational basis every year. Over 45 national and state PSU firms provide direct jobs to the GATE qualified candidates.  Apart from admissions and Public and Private Sector Undertakings, GATE aspirants can also join many research labs run by central agencies.

GATE Agriculture Engineering 2017 exam is scheduled on February 4, 2017 (2 pm – 5 pm). Candidates who have successfully registered themselves for GATE 2017, can download GATE Admit Card for Agriculture Engineering (AG) from by February 4, 2017. GATE Registration 2017 began from September 1 to October 10, 2017.

Agriculture Engineering is a rapidly growing branch in India. It includes many science disciplines and technology practices to the efficient production of food, concerning power supplies, efficiency of machinery, use of structures & facilities and pollution & environmental issues. Agriculture engineering have modernized the lives of farmers by providing the right plan to cultivate right crops in particular seasons.

It applies science and technology in various fields such as designing right tools to cultivate & harvest the crops. GATE Agriculture Engineering: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates interested in applying for GATE Agriculture Engineering 2017, are advised to check the eligibility criteria before they go ahead and fill the GATE online application form. The minimum academic qualification to apply for GATE 2017 Agriculture Engineering is indicated below:

There is no stipulated age limit criteria defined for GATE applicants. Candidates with a backlog in their qualifying exam have to submit a copy of the final year mark sheets or a declaration from their Principal along with the seal and signature.

GATE applicants will require the following certificates for each category for GATE 2017 exam-

  • SC/ ST category certificate
  • OBC certificate is not required for GATE aspirants. (only required while taking admission using GATE 2017 score)
  • PWD Certificate (at least 40% disability as per government rules)

Certificate from Principle (for the eligibility certificate only for final year or backlog candidates)

GATE Agriculture Engineering: Exam Pattern

GATE is an online mode examination with 65 questions carrying 100 marks which is to be solved in 3 hours. GA (General Aptitude) section carries 15 marks for 10 questions. Mathematics section carries 10 questions of 15 marks. Rest 45 questions are based on Agriculture engineering topics i.e. Farm machinery + Soil & Water + Irrigation & Drainage + Post Harvest process & Food.

There will be 2 types of questions Objective type and Numerical Type (NAT). In NAT question, there will be no choices. Answer to be entered manually with the help of Virtual Keyboard. 

Marking Scheme

Candidates are marked separately for MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) and NAT (Numerical Answer Type). For every correct answer in MCQ, candidates are awarded 1 mark or 2 mark depending on the weightage of the question. For every incorrect MCQ, candidate loses 0.33 or 0.66 mark for 1 marker or 2 marker respectively.

For Numerical Answer Type, every correct answer is awarded 1 mark or 2 marks as per the marks allotted to the question. There is no negative marking for such questions.

General Aptitude: 5 questions carry 1 mark each. The rest 5 questions carry 2 marks each.

Mathematics: 5 questions carry 1 mark each. The rest 5 questions carry 2 marks each.

Agriculture Engineering: 20 questions carry 1 mark each. 25 questions carry 2 marks each. Approximately equal weightage is given to the questions from 3 sections- Farm Machinery, Post-Harvest, Soil & Water and Irrigation & Drainage.

GATE score card is valid only for the 3 years. Candidates can download GATE score card for Agriculture Engineering from the official website in between March 27, 2017 – May 26, 2017. The steps followed to download the GATE Score Card are:

  • Enter Registration Number and Date of Birth
