GATE 2018 Admit Card

GATE Admit Card 2018 will be available for download from first week of January 2018. Candidates can download the admit card by providing their GOAPS Enrollment ID and Password on the official website. GATE Admit card is an important document as it contains roll number, exam timing and test venue. GATE 2018 will be conducted in the month of February 2018.

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national level entrance examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the seven Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) for admissions into various post graduate programmes in the institutes that are centrally funded. Various other institutes also use the score obtained in GATE to base their admissions into post graduate programmes. The examination is designed to test the aspirant’s comprehensive understanding of undergraduate subjects like engineering/architecture/technology.  Few Public and Private Sector Undertakings use the score obtained in GATE for employee recruitment process.

GATE 2018: Important Dates

The Admit Card for GATE 2018 will be made available for download in the official zonal GATE websites in the first week of January, 2018. The tentative dates (time-frame) related to the application procedure for GATE 2018, Admit Card download and other important aspects are given below. The exact dates pertaining to various important events related to GATE 2018 and deadlines for the same will be declared when the official notification is issued in July, 2017.

Steps to Download Admit Card

Candidates can download the admit card by following these steps as mentioned below:

  1. The aspirant who has already applied for GATE 2018 must visit the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) website for downloading the Admit Card. The website address is The candidate can also visit the zonal GATE website. The information regarding the cities under each zone is available in the information brochure in the official GATE website.
  2. The candidate must then enter the GOAPS Enrollment ID (sent to the email-id provided by the candidate upon successful registration at the time of applying) and the GOAPS Password (Chosen by the candidate at the time of GOAPS Registration).
  3. After successfully logging in using the Enrollment ID and Password, the candidate can click on the ‘GATE Admit Card’ link.
  4. The candidate can then move on to download the GATE Admit Card 2018 and then take a color print out the same after checking the details in the Admit Card.

In case the aspirant does not remember the GOAPS Password set at the time of registration for GATE 2018, the aspirant can request for a One Time Password (OTP) by clicking on the link ‘Request OTP’. If the candidate already has the OTP the candidate can then click on the link ‘Already have OTP’ to reset the Password.

If the candidate does not remember the Enrollment Id, the candidate can click on the link ‘Forgot Enrollment ID’ and follow the simple instructions to get the Enrollment Id via SMS to their registered mobile numbers or via email.

Details on the Admit Card:

The Admit Card contains the Candidate details and the Examination details.

Candidate details:

The Admit Card has the following Candidate details

  1. Candidate’s Name
  2. Photograph of the candidate
  3. Signature of the candidate
  4. Enrollment ID

Examination details:

The Admit Card has the following Examination details

  1. The date of the GATE examination
  2. The time of the GATE examination
  3. The name of the GATE examination, that is the branch name of the GATE examination
  4. The Address and the Code of the Examination Centre allotted

Highlights of the Admit Card

The candidates have to keep in mind that the GATE Admit Card can only be downloaded. There is no option of receiving this Admit Card by post or by email.

The candidates are advised to take a color print out of the Admit Card for better clarity and ease in verification.

The candidates must check all the details provided in the Admit Card. The photograph and the signature on the Admit Card must be clear.

The examination details and examination centre details such as the exam date, exam timing, address of the examination centre and the code assigned to the examination centre are provided in the Admit Card.

It is mandatory that the candidates bring a color print out of this Admit Card on the day of GATE examination as entry will be denied inside the examination centre if the candidate doesn’t bring the Admit Card on the day of exam.

Candidates must ensure that there is no tampering done on the Admit Card as tampering or changing any entry in the Admit Card can lead to possible disqualification.

The candidates must keep their Admit Cards safely until the completion of the examination.

Discrepancy in the Admit Card

If there is any difficulty faced while downloading the GATE Admit Card, the candidate can try emptying cache memory of the browser, refreshing and logging in at GOAPS again to download the Admit Card.

Candidates must fill in details carefully at the time of application itself and must make corrections to the application, if there are any errors, within the stipulated time for making corrections to application, as this will result in an error free Admit Card.  Also, the candidates must ensure that the scanned photograph and signature uploaded at the time of application are clear.

If an error or a discrepancy still creeps out, the candidate can then inform the conducting authority.

The candidates can also visit the above mentioned website to gather contact information of Zonal Gate Offices. The candidate can then approach his/her zonal office, report the discrepancy and seek necessary help and guidance.

Documents required on exam day

Candidates must bring a color print out of the GATE Admit Card on the day of the examination.

Along with the Admit Card, the candidate must also carry the valid original Identity Proof whose details the candidate entered at the time of online application.

The candidate is already informed of the permitted photo identifications at the time of application itself. Driving License, Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar UID, valid college ID (in case of students), and valid Employee Identification Card (in case of employees) are the permitted photo identifications.

Candidates will not be allowed to give the examination if they fail to get the GATE Admit Card or the original photo identification to the examination centre.

Important guidelines for the exam

Here are the important guidelines for the examination, candidates must know about these guidelines which are given below:

  • GATE Admit Card and the original (not photocopied/scanned) valid (not expired) photo identification proof must be presented for verification.
  • GATE Admit Card must have a clear image of the candidate’s photograph and signature. To ensure this, the candidate is advised to take a high quality color print out in an A4 sized paper.
  • The candidates must report at the examination centre at least an hour before the scheduled starting time of the examination.
  • Candidates will be allowed for the examination only after verification by center officials.
  • Candidates can enter the exam room and occupy their seats 35 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
  • Candidates can log in and start reading necessary instructions 20 minutes before the start time.
  • Candidates will not be allowed in the examination centre after 09:30 a.m. in case of forenoon session. Candidates will not be allowed in the examination centre after 02:30 p.m. in case of afternoon session.
  • Candidates are not allowed to leave the examination hall before the end of the examination.
  • Personal calculators, mobile phones and electronic devices are not allowed inside the examination hall. Candidates can make use of the Virtual Calculator that is available on the computer screen to make any necessary calculations.
  • The candidates are not allowed to bring any charts/tables/papers to the examination hall.
  • The conducting authorities are not responsible for the safe keep of any of the candidate’s personal belongings.
  •  All the rough work can be done on scribble pads that will be provided to the candidates. The candidates must write down their name and registration number on the pad. The scribble pads must be returned upon completion of the exam.
