NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
BARC Recruitment through GATE – Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) is the nation’s premier nuclear research facility based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, operating a number of research reactors across the country. BARC recruits graduate engineers every year for the post of Trainee Scientist Officer through GATE score.
There are 2 types of recruitment opportunities available for GATE 2017 Applicants in BARC - OCES (One year Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates) and DGFS ( Two Year DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme for Engineering Graduates and Physics Postgraduates).
The Application form for the BARC recruitment through GATE 2017 will be available from January 23, 2017. Candidates are required to apply on the official recruitment portal of BARC.
BARC has released the official notification for recruitment for the post of Trainee Scientific Officers through its academics programmes - Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates (OCES) and DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme (DGFS) for Engieering Graduates and Physics Postgraduates.
On succesful completion of the respective programs, the Trainee Scientific Officers (TSOs) and DGFS Fellows will be recruited as Scientific Officers (Group A post of Government of India) and appointed at various DAE units or Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. The exact number of vacancies for the post will be announced later.
A Trainee Scientific Officer (TSO) who upon the completion of his/her training program secures a minimum of fifty percent aggregate marks is declared to have completed the training successfully and is subsequently posted in any one of the DAE units as Scientific Officers.
OCES is a one-year training programme for engineering graduates and science postgraduates.The training programme is conducted at the five BARC Training Schools situated in Mumbai, Kalpakkam, Indore and Hyderabad.
In DFGS programme, engineering graduates and physics postgraduates who are selected for the OCES program of the BARC Training Schools and who have also secured admission for M. Tech./ M. Chem. Engg in select Institutes and specializations are paid a stipend and a tuition fee to pursue their M. Tech./ M. Chem. Engg. degree while retaining their employment in DAE. It has a two-year duration

TSOs are provided with necessary facilities and opportunities to acquire knowledge and there by also enhance it and develop skills mainly with respect to research and development with regard to nuclear science and technology

OCES TSOs are paid a stipend of 35,000 INR p.m. during the period of their Training whereas DGFS Fellows are paid a stipend of 20,000 INR per month during their M.Tech. Both OCES TSOs and DGFS Fellows are paid a one-time book allowance of 10,000 INR. DGFS Fellows are reimbursed the tuition fee paid to their Institutes for pursuing the M. Tech./M.Chem.Engg.program.
An important point of note is that a revision of DGFS stipend to 35,000 INR- p.m. is under consideration.
Appointment in all the units shall be as a Scientific Officer (C) in the PAY BAND-III (15,600 INR-39,100 INR) with a Grade Pay of 5,400 INR. Appointment is made at the beginning of the pay scale with OCES TSOs getting two or three increments depending on their performance during the OCES program and the DGFS Fellows getting three or four increments depending on their performance in M.Tech./M.Chem.Engg. and four-month Orientation Course for DGFS Fellows (OCDF).
Total Monthly Emoluments (with three increments) at the time of joining including Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance at the present rate will be approximately 61,000 (upward pay revision is under consideration of the 7th Central Pay Commission). In addition, other Allowances such as Leave Travel Concession by air, every year up to first eight years (subject to conditions) and once in two years thereafter, Children’s Education Allowance and an annual Professional Update Allowance are also payable. A comprehensive Contributory Health Service Scheme for employees and dependent family members is also available.
DGFS Fellows whose performance is below a specified threshold will receive zero increments.

There is no reservation for OCES/DGFS in BARC for scientific officers. Selection is based strictly on merit irrespective of any caste/category.
However for the post of scientific assistant and technicians, there is reservation as per the government rules.
Candidates are required to remit the prescribed fee online through Debit/Credit card/Netbanking. Candidates belonging to reserved categories and Physically Challenged Candidates are not required to pay any Application fee.

BARC conducts written test in online mode. It consists of 100 questions and candidate needs to solve the paper in two hours. Three marks will be rewarded for every correct response and one-third marks will be deducted for every incorrect response. Here, we are providing the table for the details of exam pattern of BARC through GATE.

The Syllabus for the BARC Recruitment through GATE 2017 written test will be from core engineering syllabus which a candidate selected.
The BARC Exam Centers are available in all major cities across India to accommodate the growing number of test takers. Candidates are required to provide an exam center preference while applying for BARC through GATE. They can check the following table for exam centers as mentioned below:

The admit card will be available from March 1 – 7, 2017. Candidates can download the admit card from official site of BARC. They must have to carry printout of admit card along with following documents on the exam day.
The candidates will be shortlisted on their basis of their performance in the GATE exam. Scores of the GATE exam for year 2017 is valid.
The final selection of candidates shortlisted will be done after the personal interviews have been conducted while the personal interviews will be conducted in either Mumbai or Hyderabad during May-June 2017.
The final list of candidates selected for OCES and DGFS will be displayed on the official site of GATE 2017. Selected candidates are required to report at BARC centers for completing joining formalities.
