The duration of each time slot is two and a half hours. For VITEEE 2017, approximately 2.23 lakh students appeared for the exam. The candidates are required to answer objective type multiple choice questions in VITEE. As per VITEEE Exam Pattern 2017, question paper was divided into three sections. Part-I and Part-II comprise questions from Physics and Chemistry, respectively. In Part-III, questions from candidate’s choice of subject (Biology or Mathematics) were asked.
VITEEE also has a section on English which was a quite easy section. The questions were mostly from Comprehension, English Grammar and vocabulary. Score maximization can be done in this section. Anyone who had a thorough practice of class XI-XII syllabus and a decent speed would be able to score above 70-75, which considered be a good score.

The total number of questions available for candidates to answer in Part-I, Part-II and Part-III were 40 each, total of 120 questions. The marks assigned to each correct question was 1 in all the parts, and the total marks that the candidate had to score in each part were 40. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The following table represents the allotment of total marks for each part and section and marks allocated for each question. The total marks allocated for the entire examination was 120.
|Part||Section||Total Number of Questions||Marks for each question||Total Marks|
|Part – I||Physics||40||1||40|
|Part – II||Chemistry||40||1||40|
|Part – III||Mathematics/ Biology||40||1||40|
VITEEE Result 2017 will only state the rank attained by candidates. To find the rank of the candidate, the university does not use the traditional cut off method. Instead, the equating methodology is used. It is a statistical process that is used to adjust scores on test forms (that are approximately equivalent) so that scores on the forms can be used interchangeably. Thus, equating is used to adjust scores of candidates who have taken different forms of a test, in order to facilitate meaningful and fair comparison for merit list and ranking of these candidates.
The statistical procedure of Equipercentile Equating would be used to identify the percentile ranks for candidates, such that scores on different forms with the same percentile rank are considered to be equivalent. Thus, Percentile Rank is a unique and invariant position of the test taker in that group. A percentile Rank, say 90 Percentile Rank denotes that there are 90 percent of test takers scores below this score level and 10 percent above this test score.
VIT university will define the percentile rank of the candidates. On the basis of the percentile and rank, candidates will be called for VITEEE counselling 2017.

Here are some viewpoints of aspirants who appeared for VITEEE 2017:
1. An aspirant from Nasik, Maharashtra, who took VITEEE says that all the papers were easy to answer when compared to that of JEE Main 2016. The questions from subjects like Chemistry and Physics were found to be average, but he found that the questions appearing in the Mathematics paper were the toughest to answer. Overall, the papers were good. The aspirant has tried to attempt all the questions in all three parts namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. He expects a good score and he is hoping for the best.
2. Another student reveals that VITEEE question paper can be rated as average and Chemistry was easier to answer, which was expected. All papers carried questions that were concept based. He was strong in Physics as well, hence, he could solve all the topics that he studied for JEE Main 2016. He tried to solve each and every question and aims to gain a good rank. The only difference that he found between the two examinations of JEE Main and VITEEE of 2017 was that there were a few topics which were not included in JEE Advanced course, but had to be studied for VITEEE 2017.
Some questions in sections I & II were easy while some were of medium difficulty level. In Mathematics, the questions were tough. Subject-wise break up of easy, medium and tough questions in all the parts is reflected in the following table:
|Level of Difficulty||Physics – Part – I||Chemistry – Part – II||Mathematics/ Biology – Part – III||Total|
|Number of easy questions||30||20||-||60|
|Number of medium questions||10||20||5||25|
|Number of difficult questions||-||-||35||35|
VITEEE cut off 2017 will depend on factors such as number of received application forms, number of students who appeared for VITEEE, number of seats available and average performance given by the students. Cut off for both the campuses will be released separately, based on the availability of seats.
VIT University will not announce any VITEEE cutoff 2017. However, to predict the ranks of the candidates in VITEEE 2017, the university will use Equating Method. VIT University will calculate the percentile rank of the candidates based on the test forms of candidates. For different test forms, same percentile score is considered equivalent. However, it can be considered as the closing rank for admission to various courses in engineering. Candidates can choose between Chennai and Vellore campus. Admission will be granted on the basis of rank list. This rank list is prepared on the basis of a candidate’s percentile.
VIT University will calculate the percentile rank of the candidate based on the application form the candidates. For different application forms, same percentile score will equivalent for all branch of the engineering. Below is the VITEEE Branch and Campus Wise Closing Rank for the Engineering Branch candidates.
VIT University, Vellore
Candidates securing a rank will be eligible for admissions in Vellore campus.
