NTSE 2017 Syllabus

NTSE is the national level scholarship exam conducted by NCERT. There are 2 stages in NTSE – the first level is conducted by State education boards while the second stage is conducted by NCERT itself for candidates who have cleared the previous stage.

Exam will be conducted in Pen & Paper based mode. The syllabus for NTSE is primarily based on the 10+2 curriculum of NCERT. Candidates can identify and focus on the topics that carry maximum weightage in the exam. It is very important for candidates to know about all the topics, the number of questions, marking scheme and the total duration of the paper.

NTSE 2017 Exam Pattern

NTSE Examination Stage-I is conducted at State/UT level by the concerned State/UT authorities. The candidates have to select one language from English or Hindi as medium of the paper. Each correct answer is awarded 1 mark while there is no negative marking at this stage.

NTS Examination Stage-II is conducted at National Level where shortlisted students from Stage-I (State-level) exam appear to compete for the scholarship. The paper is divided into two parts – MAT and like in Stage-I. However, 1/3 marks are deducted for every wrong answer marked by the candidate at this Stage.

Candidates should carefully check the syllabus of NTSE 2017. Syllabus would be based on the curriculum of Class X prescribed by NCERT. Candidates should focus on all the individual units while preparing for NTSE Examination. NTSE is Multiple Choice Objective Questions (MCQs) type Examination. It consists of two separate tests in both the Stages namely:

Mental Ability Test (MAT) - 50 MCQs to test the ability of the candidates to judge their power of reasoning, ability to think, evaluate and discriminate, spatial orientation, etc.

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) - 100 MCQs from Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), Mathematics, Social Studies (History, Geography, Political Science and Economics) and also includes Language Comprehensive Test of 50 MCQs

There are 22 chapters to be covered in the NTSE 2017 Mathematics Syllabus. The syllabus includes topics from class 6 to 10. In NTSE, Mathematics section contains around 30 questions.

There are 29 chapters to be covered in the NTSE 2017 Science Syllabus. The syllabus includes topics from class 6 to 10 and subjects included are Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In NTSE, Science section contains around 35 questions.

There are 43 chapters to be covered in the NTSE 2017 Social Science Syllabus. The syllabus consists of topics from class 8 to 10 and subjects included are History, Civics, Geography, Economics and General Awareness. In NTSE, Social Science section contains around 35 questions.
