ISI Admission Test 2018 Exam Pattern

ISI Admission Test 2018 Exam Pattern follows a pen and paper (offline) based examination that will be conducted tentatively on the 1st or 2nd week of May 2018.

  • The question paper of ISI Admission Test will be of 100 marks.
  • The exam duration is 4 hours.
  • ISI Admission Test consists of 2 parts.
  • The section A of the test contains multiple choice questions in Mathematics and logical reasoning. The questions are of the undergraduate level.
  • The section B of the test contains descriptive, short answer questions from Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, and Engineering & Technology.
  • Candidates have to get qualifying marks in both the sections.
  • The duration of time needed to finish each section is 2 hours.
  • The first section is of 30 marks, whereas the second section is of 70 marks.
  • Candidates who are applying for admission into M.Tech in Quality, Operations & Reliability will find two parts in section B.
  • The first part is for candidates who are from statistics/maths stream. The second part is for candidates who are from engineering stream.
  • Candidates who are applying for admission into M.Tech in CS will find five parts in Section B.

ISI Admission Test (Indian Statistical Institute Admission Test) is organized every year by the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. It is a state level entrance examination through which deserving candidates get admission into M.Tech courses in Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

ISI Admission Test 2018 Exam Pattern in Detail

The test consists of two sections. Candidates need to score well in both the sections for qualifying the admission test. Candidates will have 2 hours to finish each section. The total marks of ISI Admission Test is 100 marks.

Candidates can apply for taking admission in either M.Tech in CS or M.Tech in Quality, Operations & Reliability. The exam pattern of the admission test is slightly different for these two courses.

M.Tech in CS

  • The duration of the exam is 4 hours. Candidates will get 2 hours for completing part A and 2 hours for completing part B.
  • In part A, candidates will find multiple choice questions in Mathematics and logical reasoning.
  • The questions will be of the undergraduate level.
  • In part B, candidates will find short answer descriptive type questions in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering & Technology.
  • Candidates can choose any one section from the given 5 sections.
  • Questions on Mathematics, Physics and Statistics will be of the postgraduate level, whereas questions on Computer Science and Engineering & Technology will be of the B.Tech level.
  • Part A will consist of 30 marks, whereas Part B will consist of 70 marks.
  • Each part will have separate qualifying marks. Candidates need to obtain the qualifying marks in both the parts in order to qualify in ISI Admission Test.
  • Candidates who have qualified GATE and have a valid GATE score card will not have to appear for the admission test. They can apply directly for admission at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

M.Tech in Quality, Reliability & Operations

  • The duration of the exam is 4 hours. Candidates will get 2 hours for answering questions from part A and 2 hours for answering questions from part B.
  • In part A, candidates have to answer multiple choice questions in Mathematics and logical reasoning.
  • The questions will be of the undergraduate level.
  • In part B, candidates will find two sections. Candidates need to answer total 6 questions. They have to answer minimum 2 questions from each section.
  • Section one is for candidates from mathematics or statistics stream. 10 short answer questions will be asked from Statistics and Probability.
  • Section two is for candidates from engineering stream. 3 questions will be asked from Mathematics, 2 questions will be asked from Engineering Mechanics, 2 questions will be asked from Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2 questions will be asked from Thermodynamics and 2 questions will be asked from Engineering Drawing.
  • The total marks for part A is 30 marks, whereas the total marks for part B is 70 marks.
  • Candidates need to obtain the qualifying marks in both part A and B in order to qualify in ISI Admission Test.
  • Candidates who have qualified GATE does not need to appear for this examination

The total marks of the admission test is 100. There is negative marking in ISI admission test. 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

  • Candidates are recommended to solve previous year question papers and mock questions to score well in the admission test.

Important Instructions

The following instructions are to be followed by candidate on the ISI Admission Test 2018:

  • Candidates will be given a test booklet that contains the questions of ISI admission test and an answer sheet known as OMR sheet.
  • Candidates have to write their name in capital letters and signature on the OMR sheet with blue or black pen.
  • For the other things in the multiple-choice question test, candidates have to use HB pencil on the OMR sheet.
  • Candidates have to fill the date of the exam, registration number, booklet number, center code and test code with HB pencil on the OMR sheet.
  • Candidates can find four bubbles numbered A, B, C and D next to each question number.
  • They need to use their HB pencil to darken the correct bubble.
  • Candidates will be disqualified from ISI admission test if they do any rough work in the OMR sheet.
