Application Writing

Application writing is completely formal style of letter writing. It has a personal touch since application writing involves presenting oneself in the best way for the prospective opportunity.  The construction of application therefore, depends on the subject and the focus of the writer.

The subject chosen for writing the application should shine light on the suggestion of the applicant. Focus while writing the application should narrowly match the subject chosen for writing the application. There is no point in mentioning any detail which is not relevant to the application.

Format of Application Writing

Most important consideration while writing an application is the format. Candidates must fashion their application in the format of letter. Below mentioned is the list of things which should appear in the given order:

  1. Write your name and contact information and the date on top-left of the page.
  2. Write the recipient's contact information one line below.
  3. Address the recipient
  4. Write the subject of the letter
  5. Write the body of the letter.
  6. Sign off with the appropriate salutation.

Style of writing

As mentioned earlier, application writing is purely official form of communication. The tone of application can therefore not be of personal nature and application itself should be devoid of any personal remarks. Ideally an application body should be structured in three paragraphs structured properly

Opening of an application is the most important part as it decides if application is going to be read further. Formal form of communication is direct and concise. The opening line itself should address the purpose of letter. Any digressions are not allowed.

A candidate may incorporate personal introduction in the application. It depends solely on the candidate as to which personal front he/she is going to mention in the personal introduction. It should be kept in mind during introduction that intent of application is purely professional.

The personal introduction should be followed by the reason of application. This is the creative ground of a candidate where he gives stability to the application by his way of writing and convincing. This is also the place where a candidate makes his/her case for being considered for the success of application.

The application should end on positive note. Alternatively, candidate may request for more information and detail.

Recommendations

The necessary ingredients for good writing are correct grammar and good, strong vocabulary. In order to improve grammar, candidate must brush up the basics. The vocabulary can be improved by developing a habit of reading newspapers and novels.

In order to be adept, a candidate must practice all forms and styles of application writing. There is solicited form of application writing and unsolicited form of application writing. Before committing themselves, candidates must know the difference between two.

The key to any successful endeavor is practice. Each application written for practice must be carefully evaluated to find out the mistakes and correcting them before examination.
