SSC CGL 2017 Vacancies

SSC (Staff Selection Commission) has announced to increase the total number of vacancies in SSC CGL 2017. SSC has increased the number of vacancies upto 20,000. It is a national level test conducted for the recruitment of Group B and Group C posts in the various departments of government of India. SSC CGL Registration Process will be started from April 2017. Candidates having a graduation degree in any stream are eligible. They can apply online at the official website of SSC i.e. ssc.nic.in. The application fee is INR 100 for general category while there is no application fee for SC/ST/Female candidates.

SSC CGL 2017 Exam Pattern

SSC CGL has four stages i.e. Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4. The exam pattern is different for all the stages.

Tier 1 Exam Pattern

In SSC CGL Tier 1, the paper consists of 100 questions. It comprises four sections which are Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, English Comprehension and General Reasoning & Intelligence. Two marks will be rewarded for every correct response and 0.50 mark will be deducted for every incorrect response. Candidates have to solve the paper in 1 hour 15 minutes only.

Tier 2 Exam Pattern

Candidates have to qualify Tier 1 round to go for Tier 2. This round comprises four sections i.e. Quantitative Aptitude (Paper 1), English Language (Paper 2), Statistics (Paper 3) and Finance and Economics (Paper 4). Paper 1 and Paper 2 is compulsory for all the posts under SSC CGL. The Paper 3 is compulsory only for the post of Statistical Investigator & Compiler and Paper 4 is compulsory for the post of Assistant Audit Officer. Each paper consists of 200 marks and candidates need to solve each paper in 2 hours. Tier 2 has different negative marking provision. 0.50 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer in Paper 1 and 0.25 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer in Paper 2, Paper 3 and Paper 4. The level of questions in Paper 1 is based on the class 10th syllabus and Paper 2 is based on class 12th syllabus.

Tier 3 Exam Pattern

Candidates who have qualified Tier 2 are eligible for Tier 3 round. This is a descriptive type examination and will be conducted in offline mode. There is not any set exam pattern for Tier 3. Candidates have to write an essay or application writing or letter etc. It will be of 100 marks and the time duration is 1 hour.

Tier 4 Exam Pattern

This is the final stage of SCC CGL Examination. It is conducted to test the typing skill and computer proficiency test. Candidates applied for the post of Assistant Section Officer are required to appear for CPT.

SSC CGL 2017 Selection Process

Candidates willing to apply for SSC CGL 2017 and wish to appear in written test must know the complete selection procedure. They can check the following points which are given below:

  • Candidates have to qualify Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4 separately to go for final selection. The Commission releases cutoff marks for each round. SSC will recommend the selected candidates for appointment of each category according to the merit list.
  • The merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in all the rounds. The separate merit list will be announced for all the posts. A certain number of candidates are shortlisted as per the total number of vacancies available. Candidates are advised to fill their preferences in the application form carefully. The preference once exercised by the candidate will be treated as final.
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PWD etc. and selected on their own merit without relaxation of standards. They will not be adjusted against the reservation of vacancies. Such candidates will be accommodated against the general category vacancies as per their position in the merit list. The reserved vacancies will be filled up separately from eligible candidates who have lower marks than general candidates on the merit list.
  • The Ex-Serviceman/ PWD candidates who qualify the examination on the basis of relaxed standards is to be counted against reserved vacancies subject to fitness of such candidate for selection.

SSC CGL 2017 Eligibility

NATIONALITY/CITIZENSHIP:

A candidate must be either:

  • a citizen of India
  • a citizen of Nepal
  • a citizen of Bhutan
  • a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania ( Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar ), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

AGE LIMIT WILL BE RECKONED AS ON 1ST AUGUST,2017:

Age limit should be between 18-32 years, depending upon the posts age varies. Candidate should be between the listed age limit as on 1st August,2017.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AS ON 1ST AUGUST,2017:

i) Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer:

 a) Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute

 b) Desirable Qualifications: Chartered Accountant or cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters I Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics.

 ii) Junior Statistical Officer:

Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level OR Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

 iii) All other Posts:

 Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent. iii) The candidates appearing in the final year of their graduation can also apply, however they must possess Essential qualification on or before 1st August 2017.


Job Profile

Candidates seeking a job in departments of government of India as a Group B and Group C officer must know about the profile for the mentioned posts. Here is the job profile for all the posts under SSC CGL.

  • Assistant (Intelligence Bureau): This profile is restricted towards computer work and data analysis. The posting of selected candidates is done at State headquarters or IB cells or national headquarters in Delhi, depending upon the requirements and need.
  • Assistant (Air Force Headquarters): In this profile, candidate needs to perform an indoor administrative job and the officer has to provide assistance to section officer in performing general operations for keeping up to the date the AFHQ. It falls under defense ministry of India and the appointed officer will be entitled to different perks offered to defense personnel. The appointments are made at AFHQ in Delhi.
  • Assistant (Other Ministries): This post is filled for vacancies of assistants in different governmental departments and organizations on the daily need basis including DOPT (Department of Personnel & Training), Parliamentary Affairs, Election Commission and many others departments. The work done by this post is clerical and reporting operations as well. The assistant also helps in daily operations of the organization. The postings are generally made in Delhi, but some all-India level organizations like Election Commissions also deputy assistants at the state level when required.
  • Assistant Railways: The personnel are one of the most preferred job profiles available through SSC CGL 2017. It is more of clerical profile but in terms of grade, it is above upper division clerk grade. The employees enjoy excellent perks in terms of free travel and others, which makes it a great opportunity for many officers who are appointed at Railway Headquarters in Delhi.
  • Assistant (Ministry of External Affairs): Assistants appointed in Ministry of External Affairs are required to work in foreign countries under Indian embassies and mission. As far as job profile is concerned, their work involves clerical operations like the compilation of reports, answering, and maintenance of records. If posted in India the appointee is likely to be posted in Delhi.
  • Assistant (Cypher/MEA):  This post involves a specialist profile which looks after coding and decoding of messages that come from foreign countries. The work and findings of MEA Cypher Assistant have proven to be very useful for intelligence authorities in the past years. These people are placed in different foreign embassies and consultancies according to the need.
  • Assistant (Central Secretariat Service): Candidates selected as an Assistant CSS are appointed in different ministries of India as clerical officers. They have to prepare notes and reports that can be used by seniors and ministers either for records or for the formulation of policies. The appointment is generally done in different central government ministries in New Delhi.
  • Assistant (CVC): These officers are appointed by the Central Vigilance Commission. It is a clerical profile that includes updating of case files, maintenance of records and files, liaison with respective authorities for data and information and other associated duties. The appointment is usually done at CVC office in New Delhi.
  • Auditors (Comptroller & Auditor General of India): The officers appointed as the auditor is responsible for checking public expenditure and demand of various state departments, defense forces and general financial accounts departments of the country. This job is primarily an auditing job profile which is clerical in nature.
  • Accountant / Jr. Accountant: These job profiles are accountant profiles under the C&AG as well as CGA offices. Accountants are in charge of keeping a check upon incoming and outgoing revenue for different departments of central governments.
  • UDC (Upper Division Clerks): The job profile for UDC is considered as a clerical profile under which the appointed officers have to check the facts being offered as part of a documentation.
  • Inspector (Central Excise/CBEC): The Central Excise Inspector is appointed to the Central Board of Excise and Customs of India. They are the in-charge of inspecting the tax returns filed by different companies and departments. They process submitted claims and data as well as check maintenance of records.
  • Divisional Accountant (CAG): This job profile is under the Controller & Auditor General of India. The Divisional Accountant takes care of auditing of public expenditure for works and projects that are carried out by respective state governments. The Appointments are generally done at state level.
  • Inspector (Preventive Officer/CBEC): These inspectors are preventive officers that work under the Central Board of Excise and Customs. The office is trusted with gathering information of economic offenses in terms of tax evasion by business houses. The postings are generally done in major cities.
  • Statistical Investigator Gr II: Statistical Investigator is indulged with the responsibility to collect and compile different type of data's. The data is then used by the government ministries to formulate effective policies for use. The work profile involves a mixture of desk and field operations, depending upon the position allotted to the officer. Candidates with the degree in Statistics are chosen for this profile.
  • Tax Assistant: Candidates selected as a Tax Assistants are appointed to perform compilation and assessment of data related to taxation of business unit or of goods of service case. These selected appointees are also expected to help in general administration and daily operations of the concerned board of administration.
  • The compiler: The Compiler officers are appointed by the Registrar General of India, they are responsible for the census as well as the compilation of different statistical data and methods of collection done by the statistics division.
  • Inspector of Income Tax (CBDT):  Inspector of Income Tax is most popular and reputed profile for SSC CGL. It is a position under the Central Board of Direct Taxes. The person is appointed at Grade C position and the job profile includes verifying personal income tax records of either individuals or business units. They are generally a member of the Income Tax
