UGC NET Syllabus 2017

CBSE UGC NET January 2017 will be conducted on January 22, 2017. Candidates who are appearing in UGC-NET January 2017 exam must know about Syllabus & Exam Pattern. This will help them a lot in preparation of the exam.

The examination determines eligibility for lectureship and Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research in several subjects of Humanities, Social sciences, Computer science and Applications, Electronic science, Forensic science and Environmental sciences.

Paper I will be of general nature. Candidate would be required to attempt any 50 questions out of 60 questions.  All the questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options).

The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided along with the test booklet.

Exam scheme for UGC NET 2017

The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 22nd January 2017 (Sunday) in all three-separate session as under:

  • Paper I is of general nature, intended to assess the teaching / research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.

The paper will cover following areas:

  1. Teaching Aptitude
  2. Research Aptitude
  3. Reading Comprehension
  4. Communication
  5. Reasoning (including Mathematical)
  6. Logical Reasoning
  7. Data Interpretation
  8. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  9. People and Environment
  10. Higher Education System: Governance, Polity and Administration
  • Paper II, consists of short questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. The paper will consist of a test booklet containing 50 objective type questions. There are in total 50 MCQ’s each of 2 marks. The total is 100 marks for this section. The candidate will have to mark the response for each on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet provided alongwith the test booklet.
  • Paper III, will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.

The candidate is required to obtain following minimum marks separately in Paper I, Paper II and Paper III as given below:
