CBSE UGC NET 2017 Selection Stage

There are four broad phases in the CBSE UGC NET selection process. Candidates can go through following details is explained in the following steps:

  1. Candidates must have secured minimum marks for considering a candidate for the award of JRF and eligibility for assistant professor. They have to qualify all the stages to go for further rounds of selection process.
  2. In this stage, a subject-wise and category-wise merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in all the rounds.
  3. From the merit list mentioned under step II, top 15% candidates from each subject and category will be declared as NET qualified for assistant professor only.
  4. For JRF, the other merit list will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list.

Criteria for JRF of CBSE NET 2017

The allocation of JRF slots among different subjects will be done category wise. The candidates applied for JRF will be considered for the award of JRF according to the slots available for JRF. Candidates qualified for Assistant professor are not eligible to apply for Junior Research Fellowships. The minimum of 3200 fellowships in each UGC NET is provided by the commission. According to the government of India reservation policy, the following fellowships are reserved category wise as mentioned below:

  • OBC – 27%
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15%
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5%
  • PWD – 3%

The calculation is based on the ratio of the number of candidates opted for JRF and qualified for assistant professor eligibility. Here is the formula to calculate the number of slots under general category.

No. of slots under general category for JRF in a subject = (No. of candidates opted for JRF and are qualified for eligibility for assistant professor in that subject * no. of slots available under general category) / Total no. of candidates who have opted for JRF and are qualified for eligibility for assistant professor.

Note: The similar formulae will be used for OBC/SC/ST category and all the subjects.

If the number of JRF slots obtained for any subject in a particular category is less than one, it is taken as one. For fractions greater than one, the figure is rounded off to the nearest whole number.

CBSE UGC NET 2017 Tie Breaker

If more than one candidate has secured equal marks. While preparing the merit list in such cases a dilemma will arise regarding which candidate to place in what order. There are some rules to avoid this situation that will come into effect for the purpose of breaking.

  • In order of same marks obtained in written test, the candidate obtaining more marks in paper III will be given preference.
  • If the tie still remains, the candidate scoring more marks in Paper I will be given preference.
  • After this, alphabetical order of the first names of the candidates decides the rank of the applicant.
