IOCL Recruitment 2017: Apply for Apprentices in Eastern Region

IOCL has issued a notice to engage apprentices at their operating locations in Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, & West Bengal in Eastern India. Applications are invited from candidates meeting the following qualification & other parameters for engagement as Apprentices in the discipline mentioned in this article.

The following article gives all the necessary details regarding the posts available. Candidates have to apply online through IOCL’s official website. Paper based applications will not be accepted. *Note: Based on 90% of the semiskilled wages of State or Central whichever is higher for that location subject to a minimum of Rs-7,530/-. An additional Rs-2,500/- shall be paid in case the 90% of minimum wages are more than Rs-7,530/-

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for above mentioned posts will be as follows:

  • Technician Apprentice Mechanical: The candidate must have completed a 3 years full-time regular/sandwich diploma in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General & OBC candidates and 45% marks in aggregate in case of SC/ST & PWD candidates against reserved positions
  • Technician Apprentice Electrical: The candidate must have completed a 3 years full-time regular/sandwich diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronics Engineering with minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General & OBC candidates and 45% marks in aggregate in case of SC/ST & PWD candidates against reserved positions
  • Technician Apprentice Instrumentation: The candidate must have completed a 3 years full-time regular/sandwich diploma in Instrumentation Engineering or Instrumentation and Control Engineering with minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General & OBC candidates and 45% marks in aggregate in case of SC/ST & PWD candidates against reserved positions
  • Technician Apprentice Mechanical: The candidate must have a 3 years full-time Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Industrial Chemistry with minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General & OBC candidates and 45% marks in aggregate in case of SC/ST & PWD candidates against reserved positions

Age Limit

The candidate must be between 18 and 24 years of age as on 1st January 2016 (Relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, i.e. up to max of 29 years, 3 years for OBC, i.e. up to max of 27 years, for the posts reserved for them). Candidates belonging to PWD categories shall be given age relaxation up to 10 years (up to 15 years for SC/ST and up to 13 years for OBC NCL Candidates).


How to Apply

The candidates interested in the above-mentioned posts who also meet the prescribed eligibility criteria can follow the following steps to apply:

  • The application form will be available from February 1, 2017 on the official website of Indian Oil at www.iocl.com
  • After opening the main page, candidates have to follow the following link to reach the application form page: Careers -> Latest Job Opening -> Engagement of Apprentices in Eastern Region (Marketing Division).
  • The form is available online only. Paper based applications will not be accepted.
  • After filling the application form correctly, candidates have to upload a scanned copy of their latest color passport size photo, scanned copy of proof of date of birth (10th standard certificate/mark sheet), prescribed educational qualification, caste certificate (if applicable), and signature.
  • In the absence of any single document, the application shall be summarily rejected.
  • Eligible candidates will be intimated by email/SMS for downloading admit card for written test
  • Those applications which are incomplete/not uploaded with self-attested copies of certificates / not in line with the terms & condition will be liable for rejection.

Verification of documents

The verification of documents will be done at the time of the personal interview. Candidates will have to present the following original documents along with a self-attested copy at the time of the interview:

  • 10th Standard/ Matriculate certificate/mark sheet issued by the concerned education board as proof of date of birth. No other document will be accepted for verification of date of birth.
  • Latest caste certificate by reserved category candidates prescribed by the Govt. and issued by the competent authority only.
  • Certificate from the Institute stating that the candidate has pursued through regular mode and year of passing.
  • Semester wise mark sheets of Diploma in Engineering/B.Sc. (PCM).
  • Final Diploma in Engineering/B.Sc. certificate issued by respective Board

Selection process

The selection process will take place in two steps:

  • Written Test: The written test will be of two hours duration & would comprise of objective type of questions with multiple choice on the relevant discipline, general knowledge/awareness and reasoning/logical ability. There shall be no negative marking.
  • Personal Interview: Those candidates who successfully pass the written test stage will move on to the personal interview round. During personal interview, candidates will also have to verify the various documents which are mentioned below. Obtaining minimum qualifying marks does not guarantee a call for the interview, as number of positions, relative performance in respective categories, and many other factors affect the list of selected candidates.

The written test and interview carry a weightage of 85% and 15% respectively. After the final selection, a medical fitness test will complete the selection process.


General Instructions

  • The exact date of written test/ interview shall be communicated separately. For updates, candidates should keep checking the official Indian Oil website.
  • Candidates are required to bring one photo ID proof in original along with Admit Card at the time of Written Test.
  • Candidates have to apply for any one discipline only. Candidates applying for more than one discipline will not be considered and their applications will be summarily rejected.
  • Candidates possessing higher professional qualifications such as BE/ BTech or equivalent, MBA or equivalent or MCA will NOT be considered. Suppression of information regarding possession or pursuing higher qualification will render a candidate ineligible for consideration at any stage of selection & termination any time during engagement, if engaged.
  • The candidature of the applicant would be provisional and subject to subsequent verification of certificates. In case it is detected at any stage of engagement or thereafter, that a candidate does not fulfil the eligibility norms their candidature will stand cancelled. If any of these shortcomings are detected even after engagement, engagement is liable to be terminated.
  • The Corporation shall have no obligation to offer regular employment to Apprentices during and/or after the completion of the apprenticeship period NOR can the apprentice claim right for employment on the grounds of completion of Apprenticeship.
