UPSC IES 2017 Exam Centres

IES used as a diminutive for Indian Engineering Services. It is a civil service examination conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) to recruit the most efficient candidates for the maintenance of the technical and managerial functions of the Government of India.

Every year, a large chunk of B.Tech graduates appear in these exams to compete for limited high class engineering  posts. The IES officers are recruited by the union government based on their IES Rank in UPSC IES. UPSC conducts a three-stage competitive exam called as the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) for recruitment of the candidates to the Indian Engineering Services.

While filling the IES 2017 application form, candidates will be required to give their preferred choice of IES 2017 Exam Centres. All the details regarding these exam centres is given below.

IES 2017 Exam Centre and Code

The UPSC authority makes best to allot the nearest test centre to the candidates. Generally, the candidates are allotted the centre as per the preference filled by them. However, in case it is impossible to accommodate the aspirant in the preferred examination centre, then they are allotted the centre closest to their preferred centre of choice.

The details of the allotted Examination centre will be mentioned in the IES 2017 Admit Card of the candidate. The choice of the examination centres for preliminary and mains examination along with the centre codes is tabulated below:

IES 2017 Exam Centres for IES Mains test

For the Mains test, the choice of the IES exam centres is limited to 24 cites only. Candidates can choose the centre of their choice from the table given below

Candidate will not be allowed to enter the examination centre premises without the admit card and a valid address proof. Candidate must bring a valid Identity proof  (Passport / Voter Id/ PAN card /Aadhar card etc) and Admit card with him to the concerned examination centre to avoid any sort of inconvenience.

IES 2017 Exam Centre Guidelines

Candidates must adhere to the below guidelines, to have better understanding of the IES 2017 Exam Centres.

  1. Reach Exam Center at least 30 minutes prior to the commencement of exam.
  2. Remember to carry Admit Card as without it the candidate will not be allowed to appear in IES 2017.
  3. Please go through the sitting arrangement and note down your room number and other relevant information that will help you in locating your seat.
  4. Candidates should carry one of the following documents along with them to the designated exam center.
    1. Aadhar Card
    2. PAN Card
    3. Voter Card
    4. Passport
  5. Follow the instructions given by invigilator in the exam hall.

  • The examination centres and the Date of the various stages of IES Examination are liable to be changed only at the legal orders of the Union Public Service Commission. In such cases the UPSC holds the responsibility to inform the admitted candidates.
  • Candidates should note that each examination centre has a limited capacity to accommodate the candidates. After attaining the maximum limit, there will be a ceiling on the number of applicants allotted to each of the examination centres.
  • All the Examination centres except Chennai, Dispur, Delhi, Nagpur and Kolkata are frozen after attaining the maximum limit of candidates. As the centres are allotted on first apply first allot basis, candidates are, therefore, suggested that they should apply early to get an Examination Centre of their own choice.
  • Generally, no request for the change of Examination centre is granted to the candidates. However, the UPSC reserves the right to change the Examination Centres in the most genuine cases. In such cases, candidate can file a request for the change of their examination giving full and proper justification as to why he/she wishes to change the examination centre. The request is to be addressed to the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission.
  • Candidates who are admitted to the IES Examination will be notified of the Exam Time Table and Venue or the Places of Examination by UPSC.

About IES 2017

UPSC engineering services exam is considered as the toughest examination in India and also among the toughest examinations of the world. IES exam held in three stages namely preliminary exam, mains exam and an Interview test is scheduled to be held in the months of January, May and November 2017 respectively.

However, candidates have to commence and complete the IES 2017 registration from September 28 to November 3, 2016. Candidates can fill the application form online and chose the examination centre of their choice. The examination centres will be allotted to the candidates on first‐ apply‐ first‐ allot basis. Candidates are required to choose another centre from the remaining list of centres, if in case they cannot get a centre of their choice.
