NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
IES 2018 Notification will release in the last week of September 2017. Interested candidates can apply till first week of November 2017. The minimum eligibility to apply for IES 2018 is bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering, from any recognized university. An applicant’s age must also fall between 21 years to 30 years. IES (Indian Engineering Service) is a national level examination conducted by UPSC (Union Public Services Commission). IES is conducted for various posts in Indian Engineering Services. IES is also known as ESE (Engineering Services Examination) which is conducted only for the core engineering fields- Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering.
IES 2018 will be held offline (Pen and Paper Based) mode. Applicants who qualify the Prelims exam will be only eligible for Mains exam. Candidates who will qualify both the written tests will be called for PI (Personal Interview) round.

IES 2018 consists 2 parts, Prelims exam and Mains exam. IES 2018 exam recruits candidates for 4 streams namely Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering. IES Exam Patten is same for all streams. The exam is conducted in offline mode. Candidates who will successfully qualify the Prelims stage will be eligible for IES Mains exam. Applicants who will qualify the both the written tests will proceed to the next step of selection process i.e. Personal Interview.
IES 2018 prelims exam will be conducted in the 1st week of January 2018. The exam is divided into 2 sections. Paper I and Paper II. The course for both papers are different. Candidates have to attempt 120 questions in each paper. All the questions will be in MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) format. Paper I will ask questions on General Studies and Engineering Aptitude while Paper II will be based on the particular stream (Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering).

Candidates who successfully qualify IES Prelims will be eligible for this stage. IES 2018 Mains will be held in the 2nd week of May 2018. The exam is scheduled in offline mode. The medium of exam is English only. IES Mains exam pattern is same for all streams. The syllabus for this varies course-wise and is different for both papers. Both papers carry equal weightage.

After the declaration of IES Mains result, shortlisted candidates will be called for personal Interview. Final selection is based on both written test and personal Interview. Candidates will be judged on his/her leadership skills, personality and intellect. 200 marks are allotted to the personality test (interview test).
IES 2018 selection criteria is set by UPSC. It includes three steps. All stages are mandatary to clear to be eligible for recruitment.
Candidates are required to qualify to the IES cut off set by commission. First, candidates must qualify the prelims exam. After the announcement of prelims result, qualifying candidates will appear in the mains exam. The mains exam is qualifying criteria for Personal Interview round. The final results will be declared in the form of merit list. All qualifying candidates will get recruited under UPSC.
