60 Days Preparation Plan for SBI PO 2017

SBI (State Bank of India) PO 2017 exam is conducted for recruitment of  Probationary Officers at various branches across India. The notification for SBI PO 2017 is released at sbi.co.in, inviting applications for 2313 PO vacancies. The exam is a national level exam conducted in 3 levels viz. Preliminary, Mains, and Interview. Each level is qualifying in nature and candidates have to score above cutoff to be able to get shortlisted for next round. The registration process started on February 7, 2017. SBI PO 2017 Preliminary exam will be conducted on multiple dates on April 29-30 , 2017, and May 6 -7,2017.

Over the years, the popularity of SBI PO has grown manifold. The exam caters more 300,000 candidates for limited seats around 2000 every year. Since preliminary exam is just 2 months away and with the competition so tough, students need to start preparing the right way. Below are the subject-wise preparation plan and tips, which will definitely help you in cracking SBI PO 2017 Preliminary exam.


SBI PO 2017 Preliminary Exam pattern

SBI PO 2017 Preliminary exam consists of 100 questions. It is conducted in online mode. It is divided into 3 section- English, Quantitative Ability, and Reasoning Ability. Each correct answer is awarded 1 mark. ¼ marks are deducted for every wrong answer. Duration of the paper is 1 hour. Section, total number of question, and total marks are given below.

SBI PO 2017 English Language Preparation plan

SBI PO 2017 exam, the questions are mainly asked from Reading Comprehension, Para Jumbles, Cloze Test, Fill in the Blanks, Error Spotting, Phrase Replacement & Sentence Correction, Word Association Pair etc. These questions aim to test your comprehension and usage skills. Below are some tips you might need to improve your vocabulary and grammar.

  • First of all, judge yourself by giving a mock test. Based on your score in English, you can give time for preparation accordingly. If you score pretty good, not more than 2 hours should be given. If your score is okay or around previous years cut off, give 4-5 hours to English daily. If your score is lower than previous years cut off, you’ll have to put in more effort and give more than 6 hours to English daily.
  • Candidates are constantly advised to read newspapers and learn new word daily to improve their vocabulary. But most of the candidates don't understand the value of this practice. Candidates may not need a dictionary by their side every time they encounter a new word. Only contextual meaning should be understood. Because of this, during the exam, if you ever stumble on a new word, you'll understand the contextual meaning and won't have any difficulty answering the question.
  • Normally, we should learn one word every day. Since SBI PO 2017 is only 2 months away, try to learn 2-3 words every day. Use these words in your sentences while conversing with your family or friends.
  • Candidates are advised to start conversing in English with friends and family. This will help in becoming more confident. Also, listen to English news channel and English songs, watch English movies, and read novels. This will only help you in becoming more acquainted with English
  • Reading comprehension needs speed and accuracy. Try to read newspapers as fast as you can. Then read it again to understand each line. Often people try to read the sentences quickly but do not pay much attention to the information given.
  • The last tip, give mock test and previous years' question paper daily. The more mock tests you give, the merrier. Practicing mock tests and previous question papers help you acquire speed and accuracy. SBI PO 2017 Quantitative ability preparation plan

SBI PO, the questions are mainly asked from Data Interpretation, Averages, Time Speed & Distance, Mensuration, Interest, Percentage, Algebra, Time & Work, Approximation, etc. 35 questions are asked in SBI PO 2017 Preliminary quantitative section. Preparation tricks and tips are given below

  • The Same advice as given above will be suggested to candidates. Judge yourself by giving a mock test. According to score, prepare your plan accordingly. Preparation plan should be made by considering following 4 points:
  1. Topics which you are comfortable with and can solve quickly: these topics should not be given preparation time. However, while giving mock test and practice papers answer the questions from these topics first. You’ll gain speed and accuracy. So that when you are giving the preliminary exam, you’ll be able to do these questions in less time and you’ll have more time for difficult questions.
  1. Topics which you are comfortable with but take time to solve: these topics should be given more time for preparing than above. Practice questions from these topics every day for an hour or so. No more than 2 hours should be given. At the time of giving the paper, do these types of questions second.
  2. Topics you have done before but forgot the method: since you have already done these types of questions, you just need to revise the method and work on it.
  3. Topics you are not comfortable with: Everybody knows, that students have a tendency of not putting time and effort in the topics that they find difficult. These types of questions should be given most of the effort and time. Give these topics at least 4-5 hours every day.
  • Bank exams have most number of questions from Profit and Loss, Compound and Simple Interest, Average, and Data Interpretation. Practice more questions from these topics.
  • The topics given above are quite easy. Learn all the common formulas as some of the questions are directly based on formulas.
  •  Last, practice as many mock tests as you can. You’ll gain speed and accuracy and can perform even better in the preliminary exam. Also, whenever you’re giving a mock test, try to score marks more than previous years cut off.

SBI PO 2017 Reasoning ability preparation plan

Most students call Reasoning the toughest part of the SBI PO exam. In this exam the questions are based largely on Seating Arrangements, Syllogisms, Puzzles, Input-Output, Coding & Decoding, Ordering & Ranking, Inequalities, Directions & Distances, Blood Relations, Verbal Reasoning etc. even though this section is called the toughest, they are pretty easy once you get learn the tricks. Some tricks are given below:

  • Circular seating arrangement, linear seating arrangement, grouping and selection, double line up, scheduling, blood relations, and syllogism are some of the toughest topics candidates will encounter in the exam.
  • Circular seating arrangement and linear seating arrangements can be done by practical approach. At the early stages of your preparation of this section, try to imagine seating arrangement around you. this will help you get a clear picture about these types of question.  As the time goes by, you’ll see that you don’t need to imagine seating arrangement as you’ll be able to do these question on paper faster.

  • Scheduling, and grouping and selection questions can be solved with the help of a table. Make tables and group things related to the row heading and you’ll be able to answer correctly. A sample question is given below:

Seven lectures are scheduled to be held in a week, there is only one lecture each on of the seven days of the week, starting from Monday and ending on Sunday.
Chemistry is taught either on Wednesday or on Saturday. Three lectures are scheduled to be held between Chemistry and English. Two lectures are scheduled to be held between English and Computer. Lecture on Physics is scheduled on the day which is immediately next to the day when lecture on Biology is scheduled. Lecture on Psychology is scheduled to be held after Mathematics (not necessarily immediately after Mathematics). Lecture on Psychology is not scheduled for either Saturday or Sunday.
