UPSC NDA Cut Off: Final Merit List to be published in January, 2017

NDA (National Defence Academy) is a national level entrance examination conducted by UPSC (Union Public Services Commission).  The candidates who seek admission in Indian Defence Forces which are Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, sit for the NDA Exam. NDA is one of the most competitive exam, taken up by thousands of candidates and is conducted twice in a year. The first exam i.e. NDA (1) was conducted on April 17, 2016 and NDA (2) was recently conducted on September 18, 2016. The NDA (1) Result was announced on June 30, 2016. And the result for NDA (2) will probably be announced next month, as the exam took place in the month of September only.

Every NDA Exam consists of 2 Papers: Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (General Mental Ability). This year more than 3 lacs candidates appeared for the exams. And as per few of the candidates, they said the General Mental Ability section was very hard as compared to the previous year.

NDA Expected Cut-off

The NDA Cut-off will be declared after few days of declaration of NDA Result. As an aspirant you must be aware that the NDA Cut- off is the minimum benchmark set by the conducting body (UPSC), to select the candidates for the admission. UPSC will announce the Cutoff on the basis of the total marks of the NDA exam. Candidates securing the minimum marks will be eligible to appear for the next round of selection i.e SSB Interview. 

The NDA cut off will be based on numerous factors, which are mentioned below:

  • Number of seats available
  • Number of candidates who appeared for the NDA exam
  • Level of difficulty of the NDA Exam
  • The level of competition
  • Previous year cutoffs

You should know that the NDA Selection of the candidate will be based on the marks obtained in the NDA Written Exam and also NDA SSB (Service Selection Board) Interview.

Few Highlights on NDA Written Exam

The written exam consists of 2 Papers by the name of Paper 1 and Paper 2. These two papers will be the basis on which a candidate will be selected for the next round i.e. for the SSB Interview.

Paper 1: Mathematics

  • The exam is in the form of MCQs (Multiple choice Questions)
  • It will consist of 300 Questions
  • The questions will be based on the 10th and 12th syllabus
  • The time duration for the same will be 2 hours and 30 minutes

Paper 2: General Mental Ability

This paper consists of 2 sections which are Section A and Section B. Mentioned below is the brief of the sections:

Section A: EnglishSection B: General Knowledge
The English paper will be designed to test candidates’ proficiency in the languages with verbal reasoning and usage of grammar. It will be of 200 marks.This exam is conducted to check your awareness of what all is happening around you. You should have full knowledge about all the leads like politics, entertainment, education, sports etc.

In short, the NDA overall Cut-off will be based on the minimum qualifying marks. Also, it will also depend upon the factors like competition, paper toughness, a number of candidates attending the exam.

NDA Exam Result

As soon as the NDA exam will be conducted, the result for the same exam will be declared after one month of the exam. Hence, we suggest you to keep a regular check on the conducting body i.e. UPSC Website to know the latest developments in the exam.

  • Check the result file: The result will be available in PDF format with roll number of all qualified candidates. The candidates will have to search through the list for finding out their roll number.
  • Then all you need to do is, take the print-out of the result for further use.

NDA Exam Selection Process

The UPSC NDA Selection Process is one of the most vigorous process which involves a lot of levels. It first involves a written test, and then a 5-day interview (SSB interview) and then after qualifying these levels then you will have to go through the final step where you will be examined medically. You can check brief details regarding all the steps below:

  • Written Exam: In this your mathematic skills and general mental ability will be tested. This will be in the form of MCQs and each of them will have around 300 questions each. After qualifying this level, you will then have to go through the SSB interview level.
  • Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview:  in this you will have to undergo a five-day interview procedure at the allotted SSB centres. Through the call letter, you will be informed about the Date, Time and the venue of your SSB interview. As this is a five-day process, you will also have to appear before for Intelligence and Personality Test where you will be assed for the Army/Navy wings of the NDA and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme of Indian Naval Academy. Those for the Air Force will have to undergo the test in Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and Pilot Aptitude Test (which forms the whole PAB Test) and for Officers Potentiality.
  • Medical Screening: After you are done with the five-day tiring interview, you will be then sent for the complete medical examination at the command hospitals.
  • Final Merit List: The marks obtained in the three stages viz. written examination, SSB Interview, and Medical Screening will be considered while preparing the final NDA Result 2016 which is expected to be declared by UPSC soon after the completion of all the levels.
