NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
CLAT (Common Law Aptitude Test) is a national level exam conducted for the eligible candidates, seeking admission in the UG and PG Law programmes. The exam is conducted by NLUs (National Law Universities).
The exam pattern for admission in either of the course is different from the other. For Undergraduate course (LLB), CLAT Exam syllabus covers English, General Knowledge & Current affairs, Elementary Mathematics, Legal Aptitude and Logical reasoning. On the other hand, for Post Graduate course (LLM), students are tested on more domain specific parameters. The topics are Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence Law and related to other law subjects prescribed by the Bar Council of India for the under graduate courses.
To help the candidates prepare better, let us take a look at the pattern of CLAT Exam.As mentioned above, the syllabus for LLB admission exams covers five topics. The number of questions for each topic in the exam can be found in the table below:

The Logical Reasoning paper carries a total of 40 marks. It is divided into 2 parts- analytical and critical reasoning. Wherein, Analytical Reasoning consists questions of coding- decoding, sequence and series, puzzles, direction test and blood relations. The critical reasoning consists of questions where a candidate is required to assume, conclude or define the next course of action etc.
Logical reasoning in CLAT is the most scoring section as compared to the other sections. It is a section in which one can gain time, if they have practiced a lot and have a technique. A candidate should be able to answer the questions within 25 minutes maximum.
This section tests the ability of a candidate to apply logic to a certain event. It analyses the logical foundation of a given situation, argument, and axioms to define whether the statement is true or false. This section is important as the aspiring lawyers should have a good reasoning ability and should be able to think logically as well.

Although the topics mentioned above are diverse, these should not be considered the only topics for preparation of CLAT Exam. Remember that the purpose of this section is to test logical thinking and understanding of a candidate. To suit this purpose any number of questions can be asked which is why we now turn our attention to see the pattern of this section and expectations from the upcoming examination.
From the year 2013 to 2015, popular logical reasoning questions were from the topics of distance, direction, coding decoding, data sufficiency, seating arrangement and syllogisms. Syllogism involves logical statements, application of deductive reasoning followed by conclusion.
In the year 2013, maximum LR questions involved puzzles whereas only one question was asked on series completion. Year 2015 saw certain new topics being included in the foray of logical reasoning. Questions on numbers & symbols, facts & figures, calendar and letter interchange were the new entrants.
The upcoming examination is also expected to include few new topics. For a well - rounded preparation candidates may look into questions on cause & effect, non - verbal reasoning and statement – course of action. Questions involving combination of two different concepts may also spring up in the LR section in the coming year.
