CLAT Exam Section Wise Preparation Tips

Common Law Admission Test is a national level entrance exam conducted every year in the month of May. CLAT 2017 is to be organized by Chankya National Law University, Patna. The exam is conducted for admission in three year B.law degree program and five-year Integrated L.L.B and L.L.M courses in seventeen National Law Universities of India.

In order to crack the CLAT exam candidate should cover the entire CLAT syllabus, consult the best preparation books, follow the effectiveCLAT preparation tips and go through various CLAT Sample Papers.

Candidates can commence and complete the registration process from January 01, 2017 to March 31, 2016. The CLAT results will be declared in the third week of May 2017.

CLAT 2017 for Under Graduate programs includes 5 subjects namely - English (Comprehension), Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability), General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning in which 40, 50, 20, 50 and 40 questions are asked respectively. The section wise preparation strategy for CLAT 2017 exam is given in this article.

English Comprehension Section

This section is to assess the proficiency of the candidate in English. The section includes comprehension and grammar. For the comprehension part, the candidates mostly have to solve the passages. For the grammar section, the candidate will have solved the questions like spot the wrong sentences and correct them, correct grammar usage at the identified sections, wrong word meanings, fill in the blanks etc.

CLAT Preparation tips for English

  • Strengthen the grammar part by brushing up the basics of the.
  • Start reading the English newspapers and English magazines regularly.
  • Focus on learning few new words regularly .Consider learning their synonyms and antonyms. Doing this will help the candidate  in  getting hold of  the comprehension thoroughly
  • Solve the questions of the English sections in the previous year’s papers. Take number of online English tests.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

This section is to assess the candidate’s knowledge in current affairs

Preparation tips for GK and Current Affairs

  • Be updated of all the latest happenings of the world.
  • Consult the latest GK books and journals
  • so that you are well-equipped for the GK section
  • Consult the previous GK question papers to get the idea of the pattern of the questions.
  • Attempt online mock tests for GK regularly.
  • Maintain the habit of reading the newspapers and watching news daily.

Mathematics Section

In this section, the basic mathematics questions which a candidate has studies till class 10th are asked. The section is comparatively easy and a candidate can score full marks in this section.


Preparation tips for Mathematics

  • Consult the previous year’s papers and analyze the trend of the paper. Focus on the questions which are being repeated over years and prepare accordingly.
  • Clear the basic concepts thoroughly
  • Practice as much as possible and try to solve the question within one minute.

This section is to assess the candidate’s interest towards law. In this section, the questions are based on legal principles that have to be applied to certain situations. The candidate is supposed to judge the situation and provide a proper conclusion or solution to it.
This section is important and the score of the candidate in this section will be used as the 'tie breaker'.
 

Preparation tips for Legal Aptitude

  • Consult the question papers of previous year and solve as many questions as possible.
  • Focus on each question and provide a logical conclusion /solution
  • Practice a lot and figure out the minimum time required to solve each question.

Logical Reasoning Section

This section tests the candidate's ability to think logically, spot correct arguments, identify pattern etc. The questions in this section are mainly based upon syllogism, logical sequence, analogies, number test, coding-decoding, verbal reasoning, logical reasoning, blood relations, directions, rankings, arrangements, calendars etc.

Of all the 5 sections, this section is comparatively difficult. This section needs dedicated practice and an extra question. The section carries 40 marks and thus can’t be ignored .Clear concepts can help the candidate in boosting the overall CLAT Score.


Preparation tips for Logical Reasoning

  • Candidate should solve previous years question papers.
  • Consult the good preparation books for  logical reasoning books and solve as much  problems as possible
  • Go for online mock tests
  •  Figure out the short cuts to solve the questions.
  • Focus on time management.
