AIIMS MBBS 2017 Reservation of Seats

A number of seats in AIIMS for MBBS are reserved for candidates from various categories and divisions as per the Government of India. Candidates must fulfill the specified eligibility criteria for AIIMS MMBS to be eligible for the reserved quota. Candidates who apply through the reservation category, are advised to check the eligibility criteria before AIIMS MBBS Registrations 2017.

The seat reservation policies elaborate the seats available for each category of applicants. AIIMS medical entrance examination will fill 672 seats in seven AIIMS institutes across the nation. Out of them, 337 seats are reserved for general category, 181 for OBC category, 101 for SC and 53 for ST category candidates.


AIIMS MBBS: Available seats

All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) offers reservation of seats for various reserved categories. The detailed list of the number of reserved seats in the seven AIIMS institutes of India is given below:

The number of seats for the Foreign Nationals will be announced in the notification of the Government of India. OPH candidates will be provided 3% reservation quota if seats are available.

AIIMS MBBS: Distribution of seats

We have discussed above the total number of seats available in AIIMS for MBBS across all 7 institutes. These seats are further divided institute-wise. Candidates must make note of the following while applying.

  1. AIIMS, New Delhi

Seats available for admission to MBBS course in AIIMS, New Delhi are as follows:

  • 100 seats are available for Indian Nationals
  • seats are available for Foreign Nationals

Out of these,

  • 15 seats are available/reserved for the Scheduled Castes,
  • seats are available/reserved for the Scheduled Tribes,
  • 27 seats are available/reserved for Other Backward Classes
  • 50 seats are available/reserved for General Category

A 3% reservation is meant for Orthopedic Physically Handicapped [OPH] that shall be provided on the horizontal basis if the seats are available.

  1. Six other AIIMS

Six new AIIMS are located at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh which have an intake capacity of 100 candidates each. The reservation of seats is as follows:

  • 5% seats are reserved for ST
  • 15% seats are reserved for SC
  • 27% seats are reserved for OBC
  • 3% reservation is meant for Orthopedic Physically Handicapped candidates that shall be provided on the horizontal basis if seats are available.

Seat Inter-Convertibility Criteria

According to the guidelines of AIIMS, seats reserved for a particular category can be converted to another category or division under certain circumstances. If the seats of Scheduled Caste category are not filled due to lack of students, then those seats are filled by Scheduled Tribe candidates and vice versa. In case both SC/ST seats remain open, then the seats can be filled by the general category students. Similarly, if OBC seats remain empty, then these seats can be filled by eligible candidates of the general category.

Reservation Criteria of Other Backward Classes (OBC) Category

The following points must be kept in mind:

  • The reservation of OBC category seats will be done according to the rules of the Government of India.
  • OBC candidates belonging to the Creamy Layer are not eligible for the reserved seats.
  • The minimum aggregate of 60% marks is necessary for English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • Certificates that are in favor of the candidate’s category are to be produced during the counseling process.

Reservation Criteria of Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST) Category

The following points must be kept in mind:

  • The reservation of the SC/ST category seats will be done according to the rules of the Government of India.
  • Candidates will have to submit the necessary documents for confirming their category.
  • 50% aggregate marks are necessary for Physics, English, Biology, and Chemistry for qualifying the examination.

Reservation Criteria of Orthopedic Physically Handicapped (OPH) Candidates

The following points must be kept in mind:

  • Candidates have to acquire a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and English in the qualifying examination.
  • OPH candidates with disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% are eligible for the reserved seats only. In case such candidates are not available, then the candidates with disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50% will also be eligible.
  • The disability certificate should be certified by a constituted and authorized Medical Board of the State or Central Govt. Hospitals/Institutions.
