NEET 2017 NEWS
NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
CBSE notified that the NEET 2017 will be conducted in 80 cities on May 7, 2017, for admission to all the medical and dental colleges across the country. The admit cards for NEET can be downloaded on April 15th 2017 and the Results are will be out by June 08. 2017. This means that medical students will now have to prepare for NEET to get into medical colleges, eliminating all the other national & state level medical entrances. The board examinations are just about to start and there is no clarification on NEET 2017.Tamil Nadu has a literacy rate of 80% and only 41% of the students who appeared of NEET last year in 2016 were qualified to study medical. While the neighboring states did well Kerala topped the qualifying percentage with 80%. The south Indian State went on a protest and passed a legislative proposal to allow students to get admission based on the scores of their 12th board. Moreover, asked to allow other national & state level examinations to be held for admissions to medical colleges.
Tamil Nadu is a state of 7.2 crore people and amongst that 1.26 crore youth population. The youth population alone has a literacy rate of 96% which is higher than the state literacy rate. So where does the problem lie? Why would such an educated state have a problem with NEET? Well, the answer is pretty clear and straight forward. According to the census 2011, the rural area in Tamil Nadu has a higher fertility rate and most adolescent and youth population of Tamil Nadu resides in Tamil Nadu. So when the CBSE and the nation got surprised by Tamil Nadu's NEET results, it wasn't a shocker for the locals. Students in the rural areas are not well trained for these competitive exams like NEET.
Students in the rural areas are trained for MBBS admissions based on their Plus two score. The Big problem is that the rural population is not being well trained for these competitive exams like NEET. In order to be trained for competitive exams, one has to join coaching centers. Only those who got enough money to afford the coaching can learn the techniques to crack NEET. Aware of the whole scenario the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami urged Union HRD Minister to exempt Tamil Nadu from the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET). The States chief minister even went on to discuss the matter with PM Narendra Modi on his Visit to Tamil Nadu. This is a real issue in the state, which can hamper the growth of the youth. Let us get an insight into the factors that caused Tamil Nadu to Vote against NEET.
NEET 2017 will be counted as the First attempt, says CBSE. Which is a good news for those who have previously failed to clear it. Moreover, the quota issue was improvised and the center said that tamil nadu will get the 69% reservation but on 85% seats. The HRD Ministry is trying to come over all the issues and trying to make NEET a successful exam for admissions into medical colleges. But the system needs to address much larger problems for states like Tami Nadu where there is a need for quality education in the Rural section. This will not only provide them good knowledge but will give them a fair chance of competing in NEET and other exams.
