MHT CET (DTE MAHARASHTRA) 2017 NEWS
STATE LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
Candidates seeking admission in various Engineering Colleges in Maharashtra need not appear for Common Entrance Test conducted by State from the next academic session i.e. 2017-2018. Unlike this year, candidates who have appeared for the national-level JEE (Main) will get preference over CET students.
For first year engineering students, Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions and Fees) Act, 2015 was laid down by the Higher and Technical Education Department in the year 2016. The rule stated that the allotment will be done through the centralized admission process on the basis of scores in CET and then if the seats remain vacant, it will be filled using scores in JEE (Main).

The decision was highly opposed by a number students who wished to seek admission under 15% All India Quota. The move was challenged at Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court, but they failed to get relief as the admission process was at its last stages. The change of rules affected over 5000 candidates from outside Maharashtra.
Joint director of DTE, Dayanand Meshram, said the state has proposed to change the rules on the court's direction. “The modification is under consideration and will be brought in to effect for next year's admissions,” confirmed Meshram. However, as per now, the state's CET cell has already moved the proposal. The Directorate of Medical Education and Research(DMER) is yet to determine whether to use MHT CET scores for admissions to allied health science courses or to go with the NEET scores for their admissions. For admission to engineering courses for 2017-18 session, MHT CET is due to conducted on May 11, 2017.
