DU JAT 2017 Preparation Tips

DU JAT (Delhi University Joint Admission Test) is conducted by Delhi University for admission to BMS/BBA (FIA)/BBE courses. Earlier it used to be known as Bachelor of Management Studies Common Entrance Test or DU BMS CET. It is the entrance exam for admission to all 13 colleges, at Delhi University, offering Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) course.

To be eligible for the DU JAT exam candidates must have passed 10+2 from any recognized board. General/OBC candidates must have at least 60% marks in the 12th board exams and 50% and 54% are required for the SC/ST and CW/PWD candidates respectively. Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in the entrance exam, group discussion and personal interview.

Candidates are expected to answer 120 questions in 120 minutes. Paper consists of 5 sections namely, quantitative ability, logical reasoning, English, data interpretation and data analysis section and general awareness. Quantitative ability consists of topics like inferential and visual reasoning, set of questions from DI covering topics of pie charts, graphs, time and work, quadrilaterals, numbers, average, profit and loss, mathematical series etc.

Logical reasoning consists of topics like verbal reasoning and verbal analogy, letter series, number series, syllogism etc. English consists of topics like comprehension at paragraph and sentence levels, identification of common errors, grammar and usage, vocabulary etc. DU JAT Registration will start in the beginning or second week of May and closes in the last week of May. Admit card is released in first week of June. Exam is held around third week of May and result is declared in July.


How to Prepare For DU JAT?

Time Management

DU JAT Exam consists of 4 sections, so candidates should prepare accordingly and take care that each section is given proper time while preparing for the exam. Time must be managed to give a good shot to the exam. Candidates can go through following points for time management:-

  • Candidates should study 3-4 hours regularly to try to get selected into the exam.
  • Candidates should divide their time among the four sections.
  • Candidates should read newspapers like THE HINDU or THE INDIAN EXPRESS daily for at least 1 hour.
  • Candidates should practice English comprehensions and error corrections for at least 1 hour.
  • LR and QA should be prepared for 1 hour with variety of questions. Students must be thorough with the DU JAT 2017 Exam pattern for scoring good marks.
  • Candidates should give extra time to those sections which they find difficult while writing answer nut first they should complete those sections in which they are good at.
  • Time for a mock test should be spared everyday.

Section Wise Preparation Tips

  • Quantitative Ability

This section contains questions from 11th and 12th Mathematics syllabus and some questions from 10th grade. Candidates should solve as many mock test as they can. R.D Sharma would be of much help to the candidates as some questions are directly picked from it. 

  • Reasoning and Analytical Ability

This section tests the reasoning and analytical ability of the candidate. This section contains questions related to bar graph and chart etc. Any data interpretation book could be helpful for this section.

  • Verbal Ability

This section tests the vocabulary of the candidate. Read newspaper diligently and write difficult words in your copy while preparation. Candidates can solve previous years’ paper of CLAT and identify and learn important words from there. Candidates should learn the roots of the words that may be the best way to determine the meaning of hundred of words.

  • Business and General Awareness

Candidates are suggested to read newspaper daily to score good marks in this section. Questions related to products and their companies are asked. Important international days are also asked. Candidates are also advised to remember national prize winners of current and previous years.


Revision Tips

Revision plays the most important part in preparation of any exam. Candidates can go through following points for the revision:-

  • Prepare notes of the important formulas and concepts of Mathematics. Revise them a day prior to entrance exam.
  • Candidates can maintain a copy for the news of recent past (Important events, national prize winners, companies and their products etc.)
  • Candidates should at least practice 10-12 previous years’ papers or mock tests before taking the entrance exam.
  • Candidates should keep a check of their vocabulary by revising it daily.

Important Topics

Qualifying DU JAT entrance examination is not a hard nut to crack, provided candidates are well equipped with syllabus and important topics. JAT is a pen paper test, candidates can choose whatever section they are good at. Candidates can go through important topics which are as follows.

Important Topics
QUANTITATIVE ABILITY:-There are some important topics likely to be asked which are inferential and visual reasoning, set of questions from DI covering topics of pie charts, graphs, time and work, quadrilaterals, numbers, average, profit and loss, mathematical series etc.
LOGICAL REASONING:-Logical reasoning contains topics like verbal reasoning and verbal analogy, letter series, number series, syllogism etc.
ENGLISH:-English contains important topics like comprehension at paragraph and sentence levels, identification of common errors, grammar and usage, vocabulary etc.
DATA INTERPRETATION AND DATA ANALYSIS:-DI/DA consists of topics like bar diagram, multiple bar diagrams, components bar diagram, subdivided bar diagram, line charts, pie charts, tables, usage of bar charts to show deviations, stacked bar charts etc.
GENERAL AWARENESS:-Candidates are advised to read newspaper religiously prior to at least 6 months before the examination.

What Not to Do While Preparing For DU JAT

Candidates should not make following mistakes while preparing for the DU JAT exam:-

  • Candidates should not go for the exam without practicing mock tests or previous years’ papers.
  • Candidates should not try to memorize every formula just by mugging up instead candidates should maintain a copy for the important formulas and concepts.
  • Candidates should not take English section very lightly. They should not just try to cram vocabulary instead they should keep a record of important and difficult words while reading newspaper.
  • Candidates should not solve mock tests without setting time limit.
  • Candidates should not pick new topics just a day or two before exam.

Important Instructions

  • Candidates should plan an exam strategy.
  • Do not mark the answers randomly.
  • Manage your time well.
  • Do carry your admit card to the exam center.
  • Candidates should reach exam centre half an hour prior to the commencement of exam.
