NEST Chemistry Preparation Tips

Last Updated - January 11, 2017

NEST Chemistry Section can often prove to be a challenging for aspirants as the syllabus is quite vast. The entire syllabus for Chemistry can be further segregated into 3 units – Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry. However, with a well-planned preparation strategy and time bound approach for Chemistry section, candidates should be able to cover all the topics easily.

Like all the other sections, Chemistry will also have only multiple choice questions and the total marks allocated for this section is 50. Preparation for NEST Chemistry Section should focus on both covering important topics as well as practicing sample papers and previous year question papers to increase speed and accuracy. Candidates can refer to few other reference books as well for clearing concepts and doubts even though NCERT Textbooks should be the primary source of preparation.

NEST 2017 is scheduled for May 27, 2017. The last date to apply for NEST Exam is March 06, 2017. With almost 4 months left for the exam, it is the perfect time for candidates to start their preparation.

Preparation Tips for NEST Chemistry

The candidates can check the detailed preparation tips for NEST Chemistry is mentioned below:

  • The Physical Chemistry section gives maximum questions on atomic structure and chemical bonding, hence candidates must prepare these topics strongly.
  • Topics like electrochemistry give questions on cell reactions, oxidation-reduction half cells, and potentials, EMF, etc., candidates are instructed to par sincere attention on these topics and make their concept very clear.
  • Topics like extraction of Ag and Au through Cyanide process, Oxides and Oxy acids of N, P, S elements, and Halogens, the strength of Oxy acids and its oxidizing properties are very important topics to cover as they hold sufficient amount of marks in the question paper.
  • From Inorganic Chemistry the questions are generally based on topics such as Extractive metallurgy, Coordination compounds, hybridization and magnetic properties of complexes, extraction principles such as electrolytic reduction, carbon reduction, self-reduction using Cu, Mg, Pb, Al, Sn, and Fe.
  • It is very important to prepare Organic and Inorganic Chemistry very seriously, as it gives a great boost to the final score if attempted correctly.
  • Practice mock test papers regularly it will help to get the idea about the NEST Chemistry section and will help in improving your time management skill.
  • Refer the books recommended by the experts and the toppers and do not hop on any book you get in the market, it will only increase confusion.
  • Eat healthy and try to relax as much as possible.

NEST Chemistry Books

There are plenty of Chemistry preparation books available in the market and it is obviously very difficult for the candidates to pick the best one. Hence, to keep them away from any confusion we have compiled a list of reference books recommended by the experts. Apart from reference books, candidates should refer to the NCERT Chemistry textbook of Class 11th and 12th.
