National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a national level entrance test which caters competitive edge to a number of institutes. The conducting body for NEST 2018 exam is National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER). Candidates aspiring for the specific courses and institutes need to appear for this entrance test. It is conducted once a year across 50 cities.

  • One needs to visit website www.nestexam.in and register online.
  • NEST 2018 Application Form needs to be downloaded and filled offline.
  • An application fee of INR 750 needs to be paid online.
  • NEST 2018 doesn’t have a correction window. So, candidates are requested to fill forms and update information carefully and cross check before submitting the same.
  • Notifications will be sent on registered email address and mobile number regarding updates and will also be available online.
  • NEST 2018 is an offline based entrance test.
  • NEST 2018 is conducted on total 230 marks evenly distributed among five subjects.
  • The general section does not have negative marking scheme, but rest of the sections have negative marking.
  • NEST 2018 has multiple choice questions.
  • The medium of the exam is English.
  • It is a three hours examination.
  • It covers subjects like; general, physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology.

NEST 2018 is conducted in the month of May each year. NEST 2018 will be the entrance test for the below institutes set up by Government of India for atomic energy research; National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai.

Dates for NEST 2018

Candidates are requested to keep checking the official website, www.nestexam.in for any modification in dates. NEST 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates will have to ensure that they have an idea of the eligibility criteria before applying for the same. In case a candidate is ineligible and still applies for the exam, their application will be cancelled by the governing body. Also, the application fee will not be refunded.

Few important criteria needs to be matched before applicants apply for NEST 2018.

  1. Age criteria
  • Candidate’s date of birth must be before August 1998.
  • This holds true for general and OBC candidates.
  • There is total five years relaxation for SC/ ST candidates. 
  1. Qualifying exam for becoming eligible
  • Candidates need to complete 10+2 exam from a recognized board.
  • Final year students are also eligible.
  • So, 2016 to 2017 students will be considered as final year applicant.
  1. Mandatory subjects on board exam
  • Candidates must have Mathematics as the mandatory subject on 10+2 exam.
  • A science stream student will be given preference.
  • Other mandatory subjects are: physics, chemistry, biology or life science subjects.
  1. Minimum marks required
  • A minimum of 60% marks is required in aggregate in 10+2 final exam for general category students.
  • The same is 55% marks in aggregate for SC, ST students.
  1. State wise quota
  • Candidates from J & K, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state has a quota of 15%.

NEST 2018 Application Form

Candidates can visit the official website www.nestexam.in  and register with NEST 2018 portal. It is essential first to register online with the portal in order to apply for the exam. Few simple steps mentioned below can help candidates apply for NEST 2018.

  • First after logging into the official website, candidates need to register using their name and a valid email address.
  • Post the registration, a unique id and password is created for future usage. This entire step is an online method.
  • In case applicant forgets his or her password, one can click on “oops! I forgot my password”, it’s a link to reset password using a secret question for retrieving the same.
  • Now, one needs to download NEST 2018 application form and fill the same in offline mode.
  • Name, guardian’s name, address, date of birth all need to be filled carefully.
  • For NEST 2018 the last date to apply was March first week 2018.
  • Once the form is duly filled, it will give an option to browse and attach a scanned copy of candidate’s passport sized photograph.
  • The scanned photo must be in jpeg format.
  • Towards the end of the form, applicant need to upload their digital signature.
  • It has to be a scanned copy again and within 10 to 12 kb size.
  • On next step candidates need to save it and review in order to ensure that the information is correct.
  • Then one needs to hit the submit button.
  • This will directly take the applicant to the payment gateway page.
  • Credit, debit, net banking options are available for initiating payment.
  • Once the payment confirmation page arrives, it will give option to take print out.
  • Applicants are advised to take print out for future reference.

Whenever students login to the official website using their login credentials, this confirmation receipt will be visible along with eligibility status confirmed by NEST 2018 council.

Application Fee

NEST 2018 application fee needs to be paid in online mode during the time of submitting the duly filled application form. There is no option of sending a demand draft to the council for the fee. Also, NEST 2018 conducting body which is National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), has clearly mentioned that no center will physically collect the application fee from students. It has to be paid online using credit or debit card or net banking options. Below is the fee structure that NEST 2018 follows. Based on the category, applicants need to pay the fee.

NEST 2018 Admit Card

NEST 2018 Admit Card is available on the official website from the second week of April 2018. Let us look at the steps through which candidates will be able to download the admit card.

  • Using one’s name, registered mobile number and state one needs to login to the official website.
  • Candidates will be able to see a flash link called admit card available on the site.
  • He or she needs to click on the tab to open the admit card.
  • The admit card will contain one’s name and passport size photograph along with other important details.
  • One is required to take the print out of the admit card for carrying along with him or her in the exam center.
  • Kindly make a note that no hard copy of the admit card will be sent to student’s postal address.

NEST 2018 Exam Centers

NEST 2018 will be carried on across 60 cities in India, covering almost hundred centers. It gives candidates enough scope to choose the center best suitable for them. NEST 2018 application form will have an option for candidates to select the exam center as per their choice. Applicants are requested to check all the exam centers available on the official website which is www.nestexam.in and find out the center that will best fit in terms of the city the candidate is residing and also the center that will be easily reachable. Candidates must select the center carefully to reach on time. There are a couple of important points that candidates must ensure while selecting the center. They are;

  • Applicants can select up to two centers.
  • Based on applicant’s choice of centers, the council will allot either of the two centers chosen.
  • Applicants are advised to select the correct center code.
  • The chosen center must be within the city candidate is residing.
  • Students can choose the center at the time of filling the application form.

NEST 2018 Exam Pattern

The exam pattern highlight will share an idea about how NEST 2018 is conducted across India. It is a pen and paper based exam. The questions are equally distributed across all five sections. Candidates are advised to attempt all sections correspondingly distributing equal time and energy in all sections to score well in the overall exam.

NEST 2018 Syllabus

There is no specific syllabus as such that NEST 2018 follows. The content of the exam will depend broadly on the syllabus that candidates studied during their standard eleventh and twelfth. The exam is conducted on five sections.

  • General: It covers 30 marks and general topic.
  • Physics: It covers 50 marks and the topics for any standard twelfth board exam.
  • Chemistry: Covers 50 marks with class twelfth syllabus.
  • Biology: Covers 50 marks and the syllabus centers round life science.
  • Mathematics: It too covers 50 marks and the syllabus is from 10th standard.

NEST 2018 Result

NEST 2018 exam result will be declared on June third week 2018. The result will be available online. Candidates are advised to keep checking the official website for all important updates. The result will reflect on the official website on a tab which will read result 2018. The steps candidates need to follow in order to check their result are;

  • Login to official website using user id and password credentials.
  • Click on result tab ‘Exam Result’
  • Download the result along with answer key.
  • Check the cut off score.
  • The score card will give a brief understanding about the merit list.
  • Based on the result and merit list the final list of candidates will be released.
  • This list will focus on the applicants who are selected for student counselling.

NEST 2018 Counselling

By July 2018 counselling for NEST 2018 will begin. The selected aspirants will be allotted dates and venue for the counselling. This is the final step to get admission in the five years integrated program. The final merit list is uploaded on the official website. Candidates are requested to check the official website for NEST 2018 for the list. Based on the list and location of the candidate, a venue will be suggested along with date and time. Candidates need to appear on the mentioned date and time on that venue for counselling. Few important documents need to be carried. They are;

  • Mark sheets till 10+2.
  • Incase candidate has already done some diploma course post twelfth then the mark sheet for the same is also required.
  • Along with mark sheet certificate is also required.
  • Either of the address proofs like; voter id card, adhar card, bank pass book, LIC policy document, ration card or any other government address proof.
  • Id proof like; driving license, pan card, voter id card, adhar card, 10+2 admit card or any other document issued by Government of India authority.
  • In case of SC and ST candidates government certificate for class category is essential to submit.
  • Candidates need to carry minimum three passport sized photos with themselves.

There are main two rounds that takes place; one is group discussion and the other is personal interview.

  • In group discussion candidate’s in-depth knowledge is checked.
  • In personal interview candidates are counselled and mentally prepared for the course they are aspiring.
  • Since it is a five-year integrated course so students need to really focus on their real aspiration towards a specific course.
