Normalization of marks means to calculate the normalized marks of the candidate. As APICET exam gets conducted in 2 sessions on the basis of same syllabus and same pattern having same eligibility criteria. The level of the questions and the complexity of the exams conducted in both the sessions can be different. Therefore, it is unfair for the candidates to judge them through the exams consisting different level of questions. So, the normalization of marks is required so that the selection procedure should be biased to any of the candidate applying for the exam.

This process of normalization is based on a simple formula which had adopted and recommended by various authorities of reputed institutions around the country. This process of normalization has already been implemented by various other All India/National level entrance exams for providing admissions in undergraduate and post graduate courses.

The main purpose behind applying the normalization is to justify the candidates who gets difficult paper compared to other. Most of the examination conducting authorities are adopting this normalization process. The formula through which the normalization takes place is mentioned below:

Normalized marks of the Candidate = GMS + (Top average global – GMS ) /(Top average session -SMS) multiplied by (marks obtained by the candidate – SMS )

  • SMS: Average + Standard Deviation of the session a candidate belongs to
  • GMS: Average + Standard Deviation of all candidates across all sessions
  • Top Average Session:Average marks of top 0.1% candidates in the session he/she belongs to
  • Top Average Global: Average marks of top 0.1% candidates across all sessions together

Weightage to assign merit ranks: 75% o EAMCET marks and 25% of intermediate marks in group subjects.
