JEE Advanced 2017: Applications invited from International candidates, 10% additional seats in each IIT

In recent development, it has been decided that 10% additional seats for foreign students is inducted. It will be done not by expanding the campuses but by inviting foreign nationals to be a part of the programmes. The foreign candidates would have to pass the JEE Advanced 2017 and they are not required to appear for JEE Main examination to get an IIT seat. Therefore, foreign applicants are required to qualify in only one application.

According to official reports – “Twenty thousand more candidates will be eligible to write the exam after qualifying the JEE Main and hence getting the total number 2,20,000. For admission to M. Tech course in IITs, GATE would be also held across 6 international centers i.e. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, UAE, Singapore and Ethiopia.

The official clarified that the there would be no decrease in the number of the seats for Indian students. "The 10% intake is in addition to the existing seats available in each of the 23 IITs,” he added.

A lot of interactive features have been introduced to the JEE Advanced registrations, payment of fees & JEE-Advanced result announcement etc. have become less complex now. Certain other features such as video tutorials and SMS services are being planned to be launched for helping the candidates.

​JEE-Advanced Registration fee revised

In the beginning of next year, candidates who register late for JEE Advanced, will be charged an extra fee for INR 500. The JEE-Advanced registration fees has also increased to INR- 1200 from INR- 1000 for females and reserved category students. For candidates of the unreserved category, they will now have to pay INR- 2400 instead of INR- 2,000. Foreign Aspirants from SAARC countries are required to pay INR- 9,000 and those from other countries would pay INR- 18,000. The late registration fee for them INR- 5330.

As said by IIT official – “The JEE-Advanced cutoff for the aggregate marks in class 12th for the scheduled caste/ scheduled tribe candidates has been reduced to 65% from 70% in the JEE Advanced 2017. In other modification, the candidates having PWD category with dyslexia must submit a certificate from a doctor specializing in psychiatry and associated with Rehabilitation council of India (RCI) or Dyslexia Associations.

About JEE-Advanced 2017

The JEE Advanced Registration will start from April 28, 2017 and ends on May 02, 2017. The JEE-advanced exam date is May 21, 2017.

Only top two lakh candidates who qualified for JEE Main will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2017 exam. It is the later stage of JEE Main examination. JEE Advanced registration will take place after the declaration of JEE Main result. The application fee of JEE Advanced for general/ OBC is INR- 2,000 and for the SC/ ST/ girls candidates is INR- 1,000.

Around two lakh students appeared for the JEE Advanced examination in 2016.
