IBSAT 2017 Paper Analysis

IBSAT 2017 was concluded on December 27, 2016.  As the exam has been conducted, candidates can go through the following article to know about IBSAT 2017 Paper analysis.

  • The overall difficulty level of IBSAT was moderate.
  • The question paper contained total 140 questions which were divided into four sections.
  • Each section carried 30 questions except Verbal Ability. It had 50 questions
  • Candidates had to attempt all the questions in the duration of two hours.  

IBSAT (ICFAI Business School Aptitude Test) is a national level online test which is conducted by ICFAI Foundation (Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India). The exam is held for admission to MBA or PGPM Programs offered by the top most IBS Business Schools. ​​

NOTE: IBSAT 2018 official notification has been released by the conducting authority. IBSAT Application Form is available on the official website of the exam. Interested and Eligible candidates can submit the applications till December 12, 2017. The exam is scheduled for December 21 to 24, 2017. 

IBSAT 2017 Highlights

All the questions asked in the exam had 5 choices. Each question carried one mark and there was no negative marking as well. The exam had following sections:

All questions could be accessed at any time during the test. The level of difficulty of the exam varied from an easy to a moderate.


IBSAT Paper Analysis

The exam was conducted in four slots. It comprised of 140 questions in total. The time duration of the IBSAT Exam was 2 hours (120 minutes). The whole exam process went smoothly and without any technical glitches. 

IBSAT Paper Analysis

SECTION 1 (a) – Verbal Ability

The section consisted of the usual VA questions, which students usually practice for all management entrance tests. Moreover, the questions were quite simple. There were five questions of each type. Usually, there was one difficult question in each type and the rest of the questions were on the easier side.

Students should have targeted attempting all above questions (as there was no negative marking) in about 30 minutes with about 85% accuracy.

SECTION 1 (b) – Verbal Ability

This section consisted of sentences having 5 blanks. Three of the questions were easy, one was slightly difficult and one was moderately difficult. These questions should have been solved in 5 minutes with about 80% accuracy.

SECTION 2 – Reading Comprehension

There were 4 passages in this section. One passage was very short, having about 500 words. 2 were longer (about 750 words) and 1 was very long (950+ words). Among the 30 RC questions in this slot, about 4-5 questions were vocabulary related and 4-5 were related to the main idea or purpose. The topics of the passages were quite simple to understand except for one passage on archaeology. In all, 20 questions were on the easier side, 7 could be solved with moderate effort and 3 were somewhat difficult due to the time involved in solving them. All the 4 RC passages could have been attempted in another 30-35 minutes with about 80-85% accuracy.

SECTION 3 – Quantitative Ability

Overall, this section was much easier than the QA section of IBSAT 2015. It was dominated by questions on Arithmetic, which were based on the concepts of averages, percentages and mixtures. The questions on Numbers involved simple application of number properties. The questions on Algebra were based on simple and linear equations. The questions on Geometry involved those of triangles, circles and mensuration. The Modern Math questions were those from sets, probability and permutation-combination. There was one question on differentiation.

Around 20 questions could have been easily solved in 25-30 minutes.

SECTION 4 – Data Sufficiency and Data Interpretation

The DS section involved 15 questions out of which 14 questions were quantitative-based and one was reasoning-based. All the questions were easy. The break up in one slot is given below.

In DI, there were 3 sets, all of which were calculation-based. Two of them involved tables and the third one was a combination of table, line graph and bar graph. Overall, this section can be considered to be of easy-medium level of difficulty.

All questions on Data Adequacy and at least 2 sets on Data Interpretation could be solved in 25-30 minutes.

Note:

It is mandatory for a candidate to score more than 50% and also not have zero marks in any of the sections, in order to get a call for the GDPI round.
