Xavier School of Management (XLRI) is one of the most prestigious B-school of our country located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The Institute offers full-time residential MBA, Research Program, Masters Program and Executive Program. Eligible candidates can take admission in these courses through Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) - an entrance exam conducted by XLRI.

  • XAT 2018 Application Form will be available from the first week of September 2017.
  • The last date of Registration is the second week of December 2017.
  • Candidates in the final year of graduation may also apply.
  • Those with a graduation degree from recognized University / College / Institute are considered eligible to appear for the exam.
  • Applicants will have to pay a fee of INR 1600 for XLRI and other B-schools.
  • Candidates interested in XLRI programs will have to pay an extra fee of INR 300.
  • The exam is conducted offline and comprises of two papers.

Apart from serving as a gateway for XLRI, the score of XAT examination is also considered for admission by more than 150 B-schools all across India. This also includes B-schools which are part of Xavier Associate Management Institutes (XAMI).


XAT 2018 Dates

Dates for the events related to the exam shall be made available once the official notification for the exam is released by XLRI. However to give a rough idea of events we have listed the tentative dates for important events pertaining to the examination.

XAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for appearing in this examination is given below:

Nationality

  • All Indian candidates are eligible to appear for XAT 2018.
  • Candidates from Dubai and Kathmandu also have the option to appear for the entrance exam.
  • NRI and foreign candidates who seek admission in XLRI – School of Management need not apply for the exam. They can apply through GMAT score.

Minimum Education Qualification

  • Applicant should have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a state or central recognized University / College / Institute.
  • Additionally, candidates appearing in the final year examination of their graduation are also eligible to apply for XAT 2018. In such a case, an applicant has to submit proof of graduation before the start of academic session.

XAT 2018 Application Form

Candidates applying for XAT 2018 will have to wait until September 2017 to fill the application form. The form can be filled only online. The steps for the same are mentioned below:

  • Visit the official website of XAT, www.xatonline.net.in
  • Register on the website by giving the necessary details.
  • This will create an account and will provide candidates with a XAT ID and Registration Link.
  • Fill all the required details such as personal, contact, qualification, etc. after logging in using XAT ID and password.
  • Upload the scanned images of photograph, signature and necessary documents.
  • Select the program of your choice for XAT 2018.
  • Make the fee payment.

Candidates have three options or modes through which they can make the payment.

  • Mode 1: Online Payment Gateway-Through VISA/Master Credit/Debit Cards (American Express Card is inadmissible) or IDBI Net banking
  • Mode 2: Cash Payment-Candidates will be required to take a printout of XAT Pay-In-Slip visit nearest IDBI bank and make the payment in the bank.
  • Mode 3: Demand Draft-Make DD in favor of “XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT” payable at Jamshedpur from any bank for the prescribed amount.

Registration Fee

Candidates who are appearing for XAT 2018 but are not interested in XLRI have to pay registration fees of INR 1600. Candidates who are appearing for XAT 2018 and also seek admission in one of the courses of XLRI need to pay an additional amount of INR 300 each.

Once the form is filled and submitted successfully a confirmation page is generated. Candidates have to send the confirmation page along with the demand draft to the address mentioned below:

XAT 2018 Admit Card

XAT 2018 Admit Card shall be made available from mid-December 2017. Note that XLRI does not send admit card via courier or email. It is the duty of an applicant to download the admit card when it is available.

Given below are the steps to download the admit card:

  • Admit card is to be downloaded from the official website, www.xatonline.net.in.
  • Click on the tab ‘XAT 2018- Admit Card’
  • Enter the registration number, date of birth and security key to download the admit card
  • Take a print out of the admit card to show at the exam center.

Admit card contains candidate’s details such as registration number, name and guardian’ s name. Name and address of the examination center will be given in the admit card along with the date of the exam. Candidates are encouraged to verify the details in the admit card for any discrepancy. The hard copy of the admit card must be shown at the examination center on the da the of examination. Failing to do so will result in termination of candidate’s attempt.

XAT 2018 Exam Pattern

As mentioned already, XAT examination is conducted offline. The pen and paper based examination will be conducted in English medium. The exam consists of two papers.

Paper 1: There are 78 questions in this paper. All the questions are objective type. The allotted time for completion of Paper 1 is 170 minutes. Each correct answer is awarded 1 mark. There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. 0.05 mark will be deducted in case candidates doesn’t attempt more than 13 questions

Paper 1 is subsequently divided into 3 parts. The distribution of questions in XAT 2018 Exam Pattern for Paper 1 is given below:

Paper 2: It comprises objective type questions as well as subjective. Questions will be asked from general knowledge and essay writing. General Knowledge will have 25 questions of one mark each and an essay of 10 marks. 


XAT 2018 Syllabus

XAT 2018 Syllabus comprises four main subjects namely, General Knowledge, Quantitative Analysis, Logical Reasoning and Essay writing. The detailed syllabus is given below:

  • GK & Awareness: Current affairs, constitution, countries, sports CE, Persons, Inventions & discoveries, Animals, Languages, Buildings, Famous Personalities, Awards & honors, Currencies, Indian & world geography, Indian & world history, democratic policy, current events etc.
  • Quantitative analysis: Venn diagram, binomial expansion, vectors, trigonometry, probability, clocks, partnership, installment payments, set theory, mode, median, maxima & minima progression, Combinations & permutations, simple & compound interest, geometric mean, arithmetic mean, geometric progression, time-speed-distance, arithmetic progression, number base system, allegation & mixture, percentages, averages, number system, harmonic mean, profit & loss, Ratio & proportion, Geomentry.
  • Logical reasoning: Coding-decoding, matrix arrangements, symbol based problem, family tree problem, puzzles, identifying probably true, statements & assumptions, definitely true, identifying strong & weak arguments, identifying valid inferences, Statements & conclusions, Assertion & reason, visual reasoning, assumption-premise-conclusion, critical reasoning.
  • Essay: Unspecified

XAT 2018 Selection Criteria

Based on the score of XAT examination, candidates are shortlisted for subsequent rounds. Further two rounds are held. They are Group Discussion and Interview.

Group Discussion

Shortlisted candidates are divided into groups of 8-15. All groups are required to discuss on a topic usually for 15-20 minutes. The topics are generally related to current affairs, politics, social issues such as women’s rights and emancipation, or any other issue concerning advertising, technology, education or business in India.

Personal Interview

Candidates are required to appear for the personal interview of XAT 2018 if they get shortlisted on the basis of their performance in Group Discussion.

  • The questions in the Personal Interview round are centered on candidates’ background, academics, achievements and motivation behind going for an MBA.
  • The panel of jury members set up for this round aim to determine the communication skills, confidence and ability to think under pressure among the candidates.
  • The score for the final selection of the candidates would be calculated by assigning weight to different components such as XAT 2017 score, GD, PI, Essay Writing, Previous academic records, work experience, and the overall profile of a candidate.
  • The weight of these different components in XLRI is provided in the table below. It applies to all the programs offered by XLRI.

XAT 2018 Result and Counselling

XAT 2018 Result is tentatively scheduled to be announced in the last week of January 2018. The result announced will list the shortlisted candidates for subsequent rounds.

Counselling shall begin after the result of XAT 2018 is announced. There is no centralized counselling process and candidates will have to individually apply for each Member Institutes of XAMI with their XAT 2018 score. Candidates will be admitted to these institutes on the basis of XAT cut off, scores obtained in the GD/PI round and the final merit list prepared for all the successful candidates.

Cut Off for the exam varies in accordance with the number of applicants, difficulty level of question paper and the decision of organizing the committee. To give an inkling about the cut off, we have listed the cut off for XAT 2016 examination.
