Asheesh Kumar Singhal appeared for JEE Main in 2014. He believes that a smart routine of just 4-5 hours of study a day helped him achieve this feat. He scored 311 marks and chose NIT Hamirpur for his studies. In the interview with us, he talks about his strategy to succeed in JEE Main and reveals some of his experiences.JEE MAIN PREPARATION TIPS

Q 1. What did you choose - Offline or Online mode for taking up the exam?

i chose offline mode because i was in habit of studding from books and my speed was more in pen paper mode. also in online mode of examination one may need to first copy the given conditions on a paper which is more time consuming.

Q 2. Did you qualify for JEE - Advanced?

No

Q 3. Did you take Coaching Classes? If yes, how did they help in your story?

Yeah, i took coaching classes at shimla (Vidyapeeth Pvt Ltd. ). and i believe one should join coaching classes because the things taught in school are not of jee level and are not sufficient for cracking jee exam. the assignments consisting of important and good questions, weekly test, guidance from teachers and colleagues helped me a lot.

Q 4. How did you manage JEE Main Preparation along with your Class 12th exam?

It was easy to manage time for cbse exams and jee preprations. if one revises what is done in school and in coaching classes then i belive that it wont be much difficult to manage time. i used to 1st study the basics of the topics which we have covered in coaching. The basics of any topic wont change. basic concepts taught in school and coaching will remain same. after studing the basic concepts i used to practice questions because basics of a topic only gives an overview but if one needs to understand it completely and remeber it for longer time practicing questions is important.

Q 5. What were your Strong and Weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?

Physics and chemistry were my strong but maths was the weakest. Physics is completely logical and in chemistry, one needs to understand the topics and apply it. though there is some cramming in chemistry but was easy.

Q 6. What mock papers did you take?

Bitsat previous years, arihant previous years , question papers prepared by coaching teachers, and coaching institutes

Q 7. Write some of the Preparation tips for someone who is starting 4 months before the exam?

Mainly focus on previous years.1st you will get to know about exam patern and secondly you will get familiarized with the strategy to be applied during exam. practice as much as numerical you can.focus on thermodynamics mechanics, optics, elctricity and current, organic chemistry, physical chemistry . These topics are very important.

Q 8. Physics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.

Physics paper mainly consist of numericals. so you know what u need to do. previous bitsat question papers, aieee, jee exam papers are best. u will notice that atleast 2 to 3 questions are repeated from previous years. only the theoratical question one can ask is from modern physics. you must solve H.C. verma and D.C. pandey books. And try to do them along with the topics covered in coaching or school

Q 9. Chemistry: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.

In JEE Main, Chemistry section is the easiest one and paper is full of theoretical questions and small numerical. so try to complete first the simple theory questions and then one can proceed for numerical. just dont waste your time in difficult and lengthy numerical. try to use approximations where ever possible.

Q 10. Mathematics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.

The difficulty level of this section lies in between Physics and Chemistry. No theory, only numerical to be solved. Follow S L Loney for Trigonometry. Hall and Knights is best for Algebra. Practice, Practice and Practice Mathematics as much as you can.

Q 11. What are the things you would like to go back in time and change to get into a better college?

If ever I get any chance to go back and correct things in my past then I would do-

  1. Normalization of marks
  2. Focus on my board exams
