NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE/OFFLINE TEST

The last 30 days countdown for JEE Main 2017 has begun and the board exams are also underway. Students therefore need to approach both JEE Main and boards with a compact preparation strategy to perform well. However, it is never easy to devise a full-fledged preparation plan for yourself. In this article, we will be looking at some of the key aspects that are crucial for JEE Main preparation and also go through out a weekly preparation plan for last 1 month.

**JEE Main 2017** is scheduled for April 02 (Pen & Paper based test) and April 08 & 09, 2017 (computer based test). All the engineering aspirants will appear in Paper I for admission to B. Tech and B.E. courses in NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFTIs and various state level institutes. Paper I consists of 3 sections namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The syllabus for JEE Main is based on class 12^{th} syllabus prescribed by CBSE. Candidates who are already focusing on boards’ preparation will definitely have a good starting point when they start preparing for IIT-JEE.

The total duration of JEE Main 2017 is 3 hours. In total 90 MCQs will be asked from 3 sections - Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. All the questions are distributed equally among the 3 sections. Each correct answer is awarded 4 marks while ¼ marks are deducted for every incorrect response. The distribution of questions from class 11^{th} and 12^{th} is mentioned below. Candidates have the option to attempt the paper in Hindi or English.

With only 30 days left for the exam, you’ll have only 10 days to cover each subject – Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Some of the important guidelines that candidates can keep in mind before they start preparing for **JEE Main** are mentioned below.

- Divide time equally to focus on preparation of all 3 subjects.
- Preparation for Mathematics go hand in hand with preparation for board exams, as you need to practice rigorously and solve as many questions as possible to score well in this section.
- Practice 2-3 mock tests every week. Take time to analyze your mistakes and learn from them.
- You should fix your daily hours for JEE Main preparation and try to get up early in the morning so that you have ample time at your disposal for preparation.
- Have a print out of your syllabus. You have no idea how helpful it can be.
- Avoid anything that is distracting you.
- Divide topics from each subject on the basis of their difficulty level:

- Hard
- Medium
- Easy

- Pick a hard chapter from one subject (Math, Physics or Chemistry) and an easy chapter from the remaining two subjects in your daily plan.

JEE Main 2017 Physics section consists of 30 questions. Current electricity is the most important chapter in terms of weightage. Given below are the important topics and the average number of questions asked in JEE Main Physics’ section in last 5 years.

Students will find topics hard or easy according to their interest. Candidates need to keep the following before starting their Physics preparation. Tips and tricks for preparing Physics section are discussed below.

JEE Main 2017 Mathematics section also consists of 30 questions. Coordinate Geometry is a very important topic in terms of weightage since almost 7 questions are asked from this topic. Mathematics just requires rigorous practice. Early hours in the morning are usually good for practicing maths as it requires more brainstorming as compared to other subjects. Following are some of the tips for JEE Main 2017 Mathematics preparation:

- Students must make your Mathematics’ fundamentals strong. Maths’ syllabus has close to 15 chapters which students have covered over a period of 2 years. Mathematics is the only subject which can be perfected through practice only. Some Chemistry and Physics questions can be solved simply by formulas. But in case of Mathematics, practice is the only way forward.

- Start by noting important formulas from each chapter. Students might want to make flash cards. Whenever you can’t remember the formula, use flash cards.

Last, practice makes a man perfect. Try to solve questions that students usually find hard or of a higher level. Instead of solving 50 questions that you were able to do quickly, try to solve 20 questions that require extra brainstorming.

Some points to remember before starting the hard-core preparation of JEE Main 2017 are discussed below:

- Divide time slots in your daily plan to focus on all 3 subjects.
- Take short breaks after you finish each subject but not more than 30 minutes
- Stay hydrated and calm to cover all subjects.
- Don’t compromise on your sleep. (at least 6-8 hours of sleep)

**Week 1: Study Important & Less Important Topics in Mixed Format**

Try to study one important (or hard) topic of one subject daily and less important topics of the remaining two. Also, choose that subject which you find easy to study last. For example, in the table given below, the last time slot should be saved for Physics. However, some students might find Chemistry easy, then they can study it in the end**. **

**Week 2: Start Revision of Previously Studied Chapters along with New Ones**

By week 2, students are already acquainted with the routine. Now they should revise the previous chapters too. As students may forget the previous subjects. Now a new mantra should be followed i.e., one less important (or easy) topic from one subject should be studied everyday and important (or hard) topics from the remaining two.
