WBJEE 2017 NEWS
STATE LEVEL ONLINE TEST
WBJEE was held on May 17, 2016 in pen and paper mode (offline) across all major cities in West Bengal. Nearly 1.3 lac candidates appeared in WBJEE 2016 for admission to Government and privately run engineering colleges in West Bengal. Overall, the test takers found the exam of moderate difficulty level.
This article focuses on WBJEE 2016 paper analysis, overall difficulty, sectional difficulty, number of safe attempts and WBJEE 2016 Cutoff. This year, WBJEE will be conducted by WBJEEB (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board) on April 23 for admission to undergraduate programmes in engineering, architecture, and pharmacy in West Bengal. A total of 36,000 seats will be available in 104 participating colleges of WBJEE 2017.
The test was held in 2 sessions, each of 2 hours, with a half an hour break between the 2 sessions. The distribution of questions was as below:
|Session||Subject||No. of Questions|
|1||Physics + Chemistry||40 + 40|
The difficulty level of WBJEE question paper 2016 was different for each subject. While Mathematics was relatively easy, Physics & Chemistry had a mix of moderate and difficult questions. Some questions in all sections had doubtful options, making it difficult for candidates to come up with one correct answer.
The subject-wise break-up of WBJEE question paper 2016 on the basis of difficulty level is as given below:
|Subject||No. of Questions||Good Attempts|
The section was a mixed bag of difficult and easy questions. The Physics paper comprised of topics like Laws of Motions, Rotational Motion, Kinematics, Hydrostatics, Hydrodynamics, Atom and Nuclei, Dual Nature of Matter, Heat & Thermodynamics, Semiconductors, Alternations Current, Optics, Electrostatics, Electromagnetic Induction, Magnetism, Current Electricity, etc. Overall the difficulty level of Physics section was moderate to high. An attempt of 25 plus questions with about more than 80% accuracy was considered good.
This section comprised questions of mole concept, equilibrium, thermodynamics, practical chemistry, s-block elements, d-block elements, transition elements, atomic structure, chemical bonding, hydrocarbons, aldehydes and ketones, halo alkanes, alcohol, amines, chemistry in everyday life etc. The overall difficulty level of the Chemistry section was moderate to high, and it had a mix of difficult and easy questions. The students who attempted 25 plus questions with more than 80% accuracy was in the safe zone.
This section comprised almost all major areas of class XI and XII mathematics. The section was relatively easy and had a number of easy questions than that of difficult questions. Overall the difficulty level of the section was easy to moderate. This section comprised conic sections, straight line, 3-D, integral calculus, differential equation, differentiation, application of derivatives, permutation and combinations, statistics, probability, relation and functions, quadratic equations, inequalities, area under curve, arithmetic and geometric progressions complex numbers, matrices, determinants, triangles, limits and derivatives. Many of the questions could be solved by ‘plug in the answer choice’ process. An attempt of 50 plus questions with about more than 80% accuracy was considered good.
The WBJEE 2016 Cut off List varies for different participating institutes and categories. The table below mentions the category wise opening and closing ranks of the top 10 engineering colleges under WBJEE:
